An eleven-year-old student at Wisconsin Virtual Learning faces real-world expulsion for using a firearm in his avatar. The student received an email stating “No guns in school, even virtual school.” That’s the short version. WISN talk show host Vicki McKenna has the longer version, complete with outraged ranting. For my part, I see no reason for the young man not to change his avatar – unless he doesn’t want to.
How can the gun be “in school” when it’s a virtual school? The derp hurts so bad.
Thought police.
I am willing to bet that every student that writes something for this virtual school uses the letters g, n, and u in the course of their writing. As such, it would seem that every student is guilty of having a virtual gun included in their writings. I guess they should all be expelled. I am sure it would be worse if we looked for other words hidden in the letters of their work. I bet “assault rifle” is able to be found in quit a few works.
Also, I bet that if we looked at the school’s policies, grading criteria, etc…there is likely more than one gun-like reference to targeting, shooting or aiming for goals, etc…that belie the hypocrisy of the administration therein.
Yikes…that’s some stoopid s##t. Good riddance.
Further proof that they don’t care about violence. Only brainwashing kids to fear guns.
You got it, Scrubula. It is all about brainwashing kids to think guns are bad, by making the very idea of a gun forbidden. Brainwashing.
What I can’t understand is how we can tolerate BS like this in our schools. We should be doing everything we can to root it out, to eliminate this kind of Communist Ideology from our schools. Instead we are just amazed that it could be happening. IT IS happening, and we need to stop it, everywhere.
Communist Ideology? lol
Beyond stupid, candy ass teacher with some “issues” No way she should be allowed around children.
That’s the funny part. It’s probably a teacher that is prohibited by law from being around minor children, ergo, a virtual school teacher!
Uh, no. I teach virtual classes in addition to my regular high school classes. Most of my colleagues are either like me, regular teachers making some extra cash, or they are teachers who couldn’t find jobs in brick-and-mortar schools in the area. If you are disqualified from being around children in phjysical schools, then you are disqualified from being around them in virtual schools.
Aside from that, the administrator in this case is an idiot, but I repeat myself.
Another reason there is NO JUSTIFICATION for keeping your kids in public school any more, even virtual public school.
bless you!
The Great Jack Spirko….awesome to see that you frequent TTAG! PermaEthos and TSP dittos!
This is a double facepalm moment.
This has gotten out of control. The anti’s have gone way over board on this one. The hatred of the second amendment and gun owners it outrages and pathetic. The need to get their heads out of their a$$ and realize we are not going away.
I would really like to hear the explanation of how this keeps the virtual kids safe.
Oh, they’re virtually safe.
But not safe from virtual morons. Just amazing.
Maybe they need to add gun ownership to all those ridiculous “coexist” bumper stickers on the backs of hybrid liberal progressives that are allegedly tolerant.
They are tolerant of 100% of views to their own left. The rest of us can be dispatched with over time by just indoctrinating our kids.
Seriously, people, homeschool.
Have you seen the “Coexist” bumper stickers where every letter is the logo of a gun manufactuer? It’s a thing of beauty.
If I was the father of this boy, I might want to send the school a “virtual Pecker” and tell them where to shove it!
And get a virtual conviction for being a virtual pecker sexual predator?
I’ll be keeping my virtual zipper zipped.
The idiocy however, is non-virtual.
Maybe soon you will be arrested if you kid goes to a virtual school and you own guns. Something along the lines of “Your house is the school, therefore you can’t have any guns in the house or you are violating the law” Sounds stupid, but I can see that happening or at least attempted in the future.
Oh, Indiana had a mobile gun free zone when the kids went on field trips which automatically turned a gun stored in the car, building, or on a person into a felony charge for the owner.
WHAT?
Are you serious? In a personal vehicle, off campus building, or on the person during a field trip? I hope you’re not humoring us, because I’m of a mind to pinch someone’s head off and shit down his/her neck!
Tom
You know, I had a half-formed theory that maybe all of this zero tolerance bullshit being taken to extremes (expelled for Pop-Tart gun, et al) was being done because the administrators themselves thought it was preposterous policy and were trying to take it to such extremes that people would see it for what it is and demand change.
No such luck.
I went to a family reunion lately and two of my fam are MA school teachers.
The Admins are true believers, man. They really see what they are doing as somehow being a valuable tool in the fight against a “scourge of gun violence.”
I credited those shitweasels with too much intelligence and wit, I suppose.
Among the numerous reasons zero tolerance is deeply stupid: Any human mammal who doesn’t know what happens to a child’s brain when you put something interesting in a big red box and threaten punishment if the child shows interest in the shiny thing in the big red box knows fu*k all about humans, mammals, children, and their own damn brains and should be watched closely.
I decided to use this incident as a chance to introduce our group:
I belong to Mad Hatters Demand Action, and our group, like MAE, refuses to let sense or logic stand in the way of our insanity. Our group fully support the banning of this gun, as well as other imaginary guns!
Here is our promotional image:

Feel free to tweet it and post it everywhere – and I mean everywhere!
PS: If anyone has any suggestions on how I can improve this image, let me know.
Darn, I was hoping Wisconsin was one of the multiple states whose state flag contains an image of a firearm. Let him use that for an av.
The ones I’ve found don’t feature the musket prominently. Neighboring Michigan has a relatively tiny guy holding a tiny gun.
Virginia, OTOH, features a spear and a dead tyrant with a foot on his chest.

If you have children in the government schools, its time to consider making sacrifices and pull your kids out of the idiocy. Either home school or send your kids to a good private school. Do you want brain dead ideologues indoctrinating your kids? The zero tolerance policies in public schools have a purpose and that is to make children more amenable to a authoritarian political system.

In addition to the reasons that Tom stated, homeschooled generally a much better education and be happier life.
The 2009 Homeschool Progress Report found “homeschoolers scored 34–39 percentile points higher than the norm on standardized achievement tests. The homeschool national average ranged from the 84th percentile for Language, Math, and Social Studies to the 89th percentile for Reading.”
The average is 50.

Homeschool graduates are active and involved in their communities. Seventy-one percent participate in an ongoing community service activity (e.g., coaching a sports team, volunteering at a school, or working with a church or neighborhood association), compared to 37% of U.S. adults of similar ages (Table 2). Eighty-eight percent of the homeschool graduates surveyed were members of an organization (e.g., such as a community group church or synagogue, union, homeschool group, or professional organization), compared to 50% of U.S. adults.
Only 4.2% of the homeschool graduates surveyed consider politics and government too complicated to understand, compared to 35% of U.S. adults(Table 2). This may account for why homeschool graduates work for candidates, contribute to campaigns, and vote in much higher percentages than the general population of the United States (Figures 2 through 7). For example, 76% of homeschool graduates surveyed between the ages
of 18–24 voted within the last five years, compared to only 29% of the relevant U.S. population (Figure 7). The numbers of homeschool graduates who vote are even greater in the older age brackets, with voting levels not falling below 95%, compared to a high of 53% for the corresponding U.S. populace. Interestingly, the three participants in the age-55–69 category were also more civically active than their peers nationwide (but the sample size was so small that this category was/is not included in the figures).
58.9 percent of homeschool grads report that they are “very happy” with life compared with 27.6 percent for the general U.S. population. 73.2 percent find life “exciting” compared with 47.3 percent.
Also of note, 98.5 percent read at least one book in the past six months compared to only 69 percent of the general population. 99.6 percent know how to use the internet versus 37 percent of the general population.

All true, though not convinced the private schools offer any real difference.
Nothing should be laid upon the flag of the United States of America, there is where I have a problem with the image he used. Title 4 U.S. Code § 8 – Respect for flag
That image is not something a typical 11 year old kid would pic and use, his father, maybe.
This is from the conspiracy of Social Engineering.
The Anti-Gun Left does not only want Guns banned from Law-abidding citizens,
they want the MERE Images banned from our Social Consciousness.
This is their dream to achieve Nirvana in a Tella Tubby World and we are the children in it
when is actually a nightmare of the absurd of Kafka.
This story is nothing compared to todays news;

Virtual school, virtual gun, virtual idiotic policy, literal tyranny.
So what if my child is an aspiring machinist ans gunsmith? What if that is in fact our family business?
It hurts to think that people can be so idiotic. Liberals want children at an early age to have a fear and general disdain for firearms, and they know the best way is to indoctrinate our youth in public schools with their anti-gun rules and regulations, so that they won’t think twice about allowing themselves to be disarmed by their government as adults. Sort of like the toy-gun buyback one elementary school did, just getting them familiar with the badness of guns, even bright orange and yellow ones you can buy at Toys R Us.
Reading that people are so stupid should hurt a little, but sadly it’s not surprising as of late in our country.
Liberals and anti-gunners want to indoctrinate our children at a very early age through punishment and public shaming so that they’ll have a general fear and disdain for firearms as adults and so that they won’t think twice when they begin to be disarmed by our government. They know they can’t win with current generations of gun loving, 2nd Amendment upholding citizens, so their best bet is to push for a slow, methodical “future win” , as they slowly chip away at young impressionable minds and shape their anti-gun agenda in the classrooms. Any teacher who feels good or is actually stupid enough to think they are doing a good thing by suspending a kid for an avatar, shouldn’t be allowed to teach kids, any kids, ever.
Another check in the column in the case for home-schooling.
