Make no mistake, the inexorable growth of government, always-more intrusive regulation and the ever-increasing horde of unaccountable bureaucrats has begun to result in blowback from the citizenry. For proof, you only need to look at the unlikely rise of a candidate like Donald Trump and the result of yesterday’s Brexit vote in the U.K. The latest example of government elites displaying a naked double standard — because remember, they know how you should live your life better than you do: the fact that the House hissy fit thrown by Dems unhappy with their inability to further restrict their constituents’ gun rights included 26 gun owners.
As heatst.com reports:
The sit-in, launched by civil-rights leader Rep. John Lewis, centered on two pieces of proposed gun legislation. One would expand background checks to cover all commercial gun sales; the other seeks tougher prohibitions against gun purchases for terror suspects.
That second one —  ‘no-fly, no-buy’ post-Orlando push — would be a civil rights disaster if it passes. But don’t try telling that to your Democrat elected representative. Because in the words of the esteemed John Garamendi, too many people are buying guns over the internet for anyone to truly be safe.
Here’s HEATSTREET’s naming and shaming of the hypocritical 26:

Honestly they should have put states with the names so people know where they are from. Not surprised guns for them but not for us. It also mentions nothing of their armed security.
Thanks to a Python script and Bing. A quick cursory check shows that many are in Safe D districts so they can do pretty much whatever the F they want without question. IMHO, many have had their seats for way, way too long.

It occurs to me that there are probably a lot more murders than usual in their districts. So, they would literally be the ones who failed the most at preventing gun violence, ironically.
Most definitely Steve Cohen, 9th district of TN, also known as memphis. Left a year ago, unfortunately still work there, but I keep my protection close.
What? Sheila Jackson Lee wasn’t on the list? Is she home sick? Is she okay?
Oh, she heard the cameras were turned off… never mind…
You gotta be kidding. Tennessee members are on the list? Almost guaranteed once the word gets out, they won’t get re-elected. Go to sit in, lose job.
They are up for re-election this fall. Is there a pro-gun TN group who can help get the word out so that members go vote?
Hopefully someday this nonsense will end. Either representatives come to their senses or citizen pile brass.
I like the latter idea. However,,,,,,,,,
For the democrats it is ALWAYS not for you but yes for me.
I think the biggest farce in this sit in is that they actually thought people across the country were with them. Most of the country couldn’t even muster up a “meh” over this sit in, and they know it. I believe that’s why they really caved. It looked and sounded more like a 50th high school reunion that a principled stand for their cause.
You know it’s going badly for them when you go to a major news sight and the top headline was “Elizabeth Warren brought doughnuts to sit in” (no kidding: https://www.boston.com/news/politics/2016/06/22/sen-elizabeth-warren-brings-dunkin-donuts-house-democrats-sit-receives-applause). Liberal slumber party on the govt dime. Moving on…
Rugrat morons raising funds from their choir of crazies.
Yes, because apparently they needed a “boost” due to how long and excruciating their sitting had been, what with it being Wednesday evening at that point and their sit-in starting bright and early at 11:30 AM. Sounds like a standard-length workday to me (but without any actual work). No wonder they were so bushed.
Guns for ME but not for THEE-peon. Already knew about dingy harry. Typical POS dumbocrat mess. THIS needs to be widely known.
Not only are these hypocritical jackass politicians gun owners, but all of their security detail are too.
Standard Rep/Senator does not have a “security detail”. A dog robber and various hangerson but no SS or SWAT team.
Congressman Rangel (D-NY) disagrees with you.

Politikos being hypocrites? Nah!
/sarc
My favorite headline for this spectacle so far is: Civil Rights Icon Battles Against Civil Rights
Pretty much sums up the big lie that is the Democrat Party.
F&ck Wheldon Shitehouse
Yeah, he’s one of the biggest sleazeballs in the known universe (and probably beyond).
If I was Speaker I would have shut off the AC as well as the cameras and microphones, let them sweat it out!
Shut down the bathrooms and slip these idiots some laxatives so it comes out both ends!
When Pelosi was in charge, she simply sent in the police to drag them out.

You guys are all wrong. They have guns to protect us… from ourselves.
I feel safer.
One of the very biggest of the Dem hypocrites is Sen Diane Feinstein… author of the “Assault Weapons Ban”, possessor of a CCW in a state where normal people can’t get them, owner of a handgun, and who says things like; “no veteran should ever be allowed to own a firearm all mentally ill with PTSD”.
T o hell with these hypocrites, but her first.
These people, and those like them are all hypocrits… one need only look at the states and cities where they are in control: CA, CT, MA, NY, IL, San Francisco, Chicago, NYC.
Both of my POS Senators from VA were on that list.
Stupid politicians politicking stupidly. I share your pain.
Could someone please, please tell me how a politician trying to pass gun control laws doesn’t understand that NO ONE CAN JUST BUY A GUN ON THE WEB WITH NO BACKGROUND CKECK!!!!
Oh they understand. Quite well in fact. Now, think about this. Since they know full well you already have to fill out a 4473 and submit it to NICS in order to take delivery of any modern firearm ordered online, there must be some other reason, right?
Right?
Tom
I am sure they know, but do their “constituents” know?
THIS is plain and simple an election year stunt and nothing more. They grabbed TV time just like Trump with this stupid statements and that is all they did.
In government today, it is not a matter of what can they do to help the people, but what can they “fool” you into believe to push the all mighty party narrative. It does not matter if it is the GOP or DNC, they both try to use emotions over facts into fooling you to support something that is not factually correct. The War on Soft-drinks and GMO those politicians who support no-vaccination are just some of stupid that is out there.
Look currently in Philly. They just passed a 1.5 cent/oz. sugar tax on drinks. The pols in their stupid belief think that sugar in drinks is the ONLY cause for obesity (it is not and plays a small part). To get what they want, the sugar tax, was sold to fund Pre-K, This is an excellent double dupe.
First, this tax will not do away with obesity and second, they want Pre-K and by all estimates, the revenue that they will receive WILL NOT be enough to pay for Pre-K. However, you have two emotional items. Childhood obesity and Pre-K. The tax they believe will solve the obesity problem and the tax payers will be stuck funding fully Pre-K because once they start the program, other parents will say “hey, I paid for them, now you pay for me” Now it becomes an unfunded mandate. The sugar tax will NOT be enough, so now they need another tax. Alas, the politicians have fooled the public into paying more into the government system not really getting anything except a feel good law and bullet points for the mayor the next time he runs.
We are in effect, always being played. If anyone has any wonder why Brexit passed and why Trump and Bernie are popular, there you go. They new anthem should be “Won’t Get Fooled Again” — but sadly there are too many willing to be fooled because nobody bothers to reach deeper than the headlines.
Only when we are disarmed will they feel safe from us. Why is it so hard for you people to get it?
They day a total ban goes into effect, is the day they suspend elections indefinitely.
Yes – senator Martin Heinrich (D-nm)
At least Sen. Udall and my rep, Lujan, kept their dignity this time around.
I’m sure they will all give up their personal guns if only asked politely.
How about we put all politicians on the no fly no buy list until we balance the budget, repay all the money taken from Social Security and start reversing the national debt?
One of our two major political parties doesn’t deserve to be taken seriously. The other is sitting on the floor like children.
Yes. Both sides sat in a room and scripted this week’s theater. And divided up the NRA and Bloomberg monies each hand extracted from their “side”. Political theater at its finest.
The guy trying to make guns laws doesn’t even know gun laws. “Felons can buy guns on the Internet.” They can try, but they have to be shipped to an FFL where a FEDERAL BACKGROUND CHECK IS RUN. Why do idiots like this and reporters keep writing stupid stuff. NO YOU CANNOT BUY A GUN ONLINE AND HAVE IT SHIPPED TO YOUR HOUSE. Stop saying you can. Stop lying to the American people. As for gun shows, another myth perpetuated by the government. Every firearms dealer must run a federal backgound check at every show for every sale. While private citizens are exempt from doing so, firearms shows do not really allow private citizens to have booths and sell at gun shows WITHOUT RUNNING A FEDERAL BACKGROUND CHECK! Tired of politicians lying to the American people and reporters publishing those lies!
Nolan – MN is a gun owner. “Strong supporter of the 2nd amendment!”
With his staged photos in an orange vest and over / under indeed.
Liar.
They weren’t trying to ban guns! They’re pushing gun CONTROL, morons! Doesn’t the fact that some of them own guns TELL you they aren’t trying to ban them, for f’s sake???
The last 105 years has seen plenty of gun control laws. I wonder how many more are needed for the promised safe utopia to emerge. The gun control crowd does ultimately have ambitions for total or near total bans on firearms in civilian hands. Notice there’s always been just one more law or just one more regulation. Imagine you have a big delicious cake and someone asks for a slice. You give it to them. Then they ask for another. You give it to them. You give slice after slice to them until you have just a tiny sliver of your original cake left. Then they ask for another slice, but this time you tell them no because it’s your cake and there’s hardly any left for you to enjoy; you’ve given them nearly all of it and you just want to have some of it left, and in return they scream at you that you’re a selfish asshole who just couldn’t let them have one teensy bit of YOUR cake they’d already eaten 90% of.
What’s wrong with this law is that it completely does away with due process. These are secret lists and anyone can be on them for any reason. You don’t have to do anything criminal. You don’t have to be convicted or even tried. All they need is suspicion, if even that. They want to take away your constitutional rights against the constitutional principle of presumption of innocent, the right to face your accuser, the right to legal council, and the right have a fair day in court. If the terrorism suspicions are so solid, then they can damn well charge you and put you on trial and convict you. Otherwise, they are treating someone who has not been convicted or even charged with a crime like a criminal, and that is textbook oppression.
This is where you all are total hypocrites. Absolutely there are are responsible gun owners such as many members of congress and I would hope Bobby and Danny are also. However like most Americans, they feel that it is their right to bare arms, it is also wise to have some sort of control over those privileges. Like most gun advocates say, responsible people aren’t the problem. These members of congress are not the gun owners who are the problem, they are just reasonably trying to keep the guns from the unresponsible people. No need to curtail gun rights for the responsible people it’s your own argument. Dense?

Typical of gun grabbers. “Guns for me but none for thee. You don’t need right to carry, automatics, semiautomatic, double digit magazine capacity, access to modern designs or features, or anything I deem scary. Now hand them over — you’re scaring me enough to make me thankful I have a Glock 23 with an extended magazine in an IWB holster and have armed bodyguards who carry MilSpec M4a1’s.”
