If you’re Maxpedition, you have one big problem – everyone and their brother’s turning out MOLLE-type gear and assorted pieces of tacticalia, usually at lower prices. It may not be of the same quality, but most buyers can’t tell the difference (or just don’t care). The Carson, California-based company could try to lower their prices, but that’s a race to the bottom. Maxpedition’s president Tim Tang tells TTAG that the solution is to go upmarket . . .
They’ll still produce their popular legacy gear line, but Maxpedition’s rolling out their new AGR (Advanced Gear Research) premium gear this week here at SHOT. What’s different? To start, they’ve made it lighter with the judicious use of a new hexagonal honeycomb material that’s more abrasion and tear-resistant.
Instead of the usual MOLLE or PALS attachment system, Maxpedition’s come up with a web-based lattice arrangement they’re calling the modular attachment lattice system. It’s made of composite polyurethane thermoplastic. It’s thinner, but still compatible with all their legacy pouches and miscellaneous attachments.
They’ve updated the zipper pulls (new loops) and webbing (seatbelt material) for added strength, functionality and comfort. And they’ve even updated the attachment method on the line’s new pouches using a one-piece PJC clips.
They’re bringing out six new packs, six pouches in three different colors (that’s the Wolfspur tactical man purse with concealed carry capability, pictured above) and a bunch of miscellaneous hardware in the new AGR line which should hit stores in late spring. Expect to pay a premium of about 10% over the price of similar legacy Maxpedition gear.

I cannot believe I’m saying this, but… I think this man-purse thing might be getting worse than the fanny pack.
I mean at least the fanny pack doesn’t take itself so seriously as to not be self-described by the word “fanny.”
A tactical murse, who knew? I’ll stick with my urban transporter (stolen walmart cart) in which I keep my M1 in a golf bag with a tiger head cover amongst alla the other SMOD day gear I just can’t bear to be without.
I really like my Maxpedition gear, but this new line is kind of goofy looking. Looks like some late 2000’s laptop bags. By Premium gear, I am also assuming a “premium” price.
While it isn’t part of this new gear lineup I like the looks of their Falcon III backpack but I am not paying two hundred dollars for a 32 liter pack! Maxpedition’s products are just a little over priced and I’d wager these new items will be worse.

I call it my magic murder bag. I use it to carry tools at work. And also not at work. While the biggest tool admittedly is the one carrying it, I like the utility. And also having heavier artillery available as compared to the single-stack 9 on the hip. Two being one, and one being…still one.

Is this product line available? When will it be available of it currently is not? I have a lot of Maxpedition’s products, but they introduced their Ordnance Range Backpack at Shot last year and today was the first day that their site listed it as available. Very disappointed in that demonstration of bringing a product to market in a reasonable time frame. I work in the medical device industry which requires FDA approval of a new product prior to launch. What is their excuse?

Several of Maxpedition’s “legacy” products are on my wish list (Condor II, Zafar, Pygmy Falcon) but not interested in any of the AGR offerings. To be frank, they’re just ugly.
