Senator Dianne Feinsteins’ website has finally dropped details of her not-so-cleverly-named (I bet it’ll be re-christened) “Assault Weapons Ban of 2013.” Here it is [via feinsteinsenate.gov]:

Assault Weapons Ban of 2013

Mass shootings in Newtown, Aurora, and Tucson have demonstrated all too clearly the need to regulate military-style assault weapons and high capacity ammunition magazines. These weapons allow a gunman to fire a large number of rounds quickly and without having to reload.

What the bill does . . .

The legislation bans the sale, transfer, manufacturing and importation of:

  • All semiautomatic rifles that can accept a detachable magazine and have at least one military feature: pistol grip; forward grip; folding, telescoping, or detachable stock; grenade launcher or rocket launcher; barrel shroud; or threaded barrel.
  • All semiautomatic pistols that can accept a detachable magazine and have at least one military feature: threaded barrel; second pistol grip; barrel shroud; capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip; or semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm.
  • All semiautomatic rifles and handguns that have a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.
  • All semiautomatic shotguns that have a folding, telescoping, or detachable stock; pistol grip; fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 5 rounds; ability to accept a detachable magazine; forward grip; grenade launcher or rocket launcher; or shotgun with a revolving cylinder.
  • All ammunition feeding devices (magazines, strips, and drums) capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.
  • 157 specifically-named firearms (listed at the end of this page).

The legislation excludes the following weapons from the bill:

  • Any weapon that is lawfully possessed at the date of the bill’s enactment;
  • Any firearm manually operated by a bolt, pump, lever or slide action;
  • Assault weapons used by military, law enforcement, and retired law enforcement; and
  • Antique weapons.

The legislation protects hunting and sporting firearms:

  • The bill excludes 2,258 legitimate hunting and sporting rifles and shotguns by specific make and model.

The legislation strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and state bans by:

  • Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test.
    • The bill also makes the ban harder to evade by eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test.
  • Banning dangerous aftermarket modifications and workarounds.
    • Bump or slide fire stocks, which are modified stocks that enable semi-automatic weapons to fire at rates similar to fully automatic machine guns.
    • So-called “bullet buttons” that allow the rapid replacement of ammunition magazines, frequently used as a workaround to prohibitions on detachable magazines.
    • Thumbhole stocks, a type of stock that was created as a workaround to avoid prohibitions on pistol grips.
  • Adding a ban on the importation of assault weapons and large-capacity magazines.
  • Eliminating the 10-year sunset that allowed the original federal ban to expire.

The legislation addresses the millions of assault weapons and large-capacity magazines currently in existence by:

  • Requiring a background check on all sales or transfers of a grandfathered assault weapon.
    • This background check can be run through the FBI or, if a state chooses, initiated with a state agency, as with the existing background check system.
  • Prohibiting the sale or transfer of large-capacity ammunition feeding devices lawfully possessed on the date of enactment of the bill.
  • Allowing states and localities to use federal Byrne JAG grant funds to conduct a voluntary buy-back program for grandfathered assault weapons and large-capacity ammunition feeding devices.
  • Imposing a safe storage requirement for grandfathered firearms, to keep them away from prohibited persons.
  • Requiring that assault weapons and large-capacity ammunition feeding devices manufactured after the date of the bill’s enactment be engraved with the serial number and date of manufacture of the weapon

Assault weapon bans have been proven to be effective

The 1994 Assault Weapons Ban was effective at reducing crime and getting these military-style weapons off our streets. Since the ban expired, more than 350 people have been killed and more than 450 injured by these weapons.

  • A Justice Department study of the assault weapons ban found that it was responsible for a 6.7% decrease in total gun murders, holding all other factors equal.
    • Source: Jeffrey A. Roth & Christopher S. Koper, “Impact Evaluation of the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act of 1994,” (March 1997).
  • The same study also found that “Assault weapons are disproportionately involved in murders with multiple victims, multiple wounds per victim, and police officers as victims.”
  • The use of assault weapons in crime declined by more than two-thirds by about nine years after 1994 Assault Weapons Ban took effect.

  • The percentage of firearms seized by police in Virginia that had high-capacity magazines dropped significantly during the ban. That figure has doubled since the ban expired.
  • When Maryland imposed a more stringent ban on assault pistols and high-capacity magazines in 1994, it led to a 55% drop in assault pistols recovered by the Baltimore Police Department.

    • Like RF, I’m thinking Feinstein’s attempt at infringement will be re-christened with something cute, like, “Keeping Children Safe Act” or “Mass Shooting Prevention Act” or “People’s Protection Act”. In other words, she’ll think of a name reflecting the opposite of what the bill actually does.

      • This site and everyone else should keep on calling the bills what they are: Civilian Disarmament bills.

If it’s an “assault weapon (not rifle) ban” bill, then the debate centers over whether an ‘assault weapon’ (whatever that is this week) should belong to a private citizen. But the agenda and the bills effects are broader than that. If you call it a Civilian Disarmament bill, then the debate is refocused where it belongs: on the Second Amendment and the role of self defense in our society.

    • The filibuster is alive so the bill is DOA. Reid cut a. Deal with McConnell and the rules for a filibuster received only a minor makeover. She might have had trouble getting 50 votes so 60 is out of the question.

      • They definitely cannot get 50 in the senate. Reid will not want his D senate members up for reelection in 2014 to walk the plank. Ones up in ’14 (dem’s) are from Alaska, Arkansas, South Dakota, Montana, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Colorado, Minnesota, etc.

Only the commies in very safe states like MA, NY, CA will push this. The others know they’ll be DOA in the election

        • The firewall will be the 10 round mag limit. Most likely, they will try to monkey with the whole background check and itsy universe of legal questions.

      • I strongly suspect that’s not how this is going to play out. I suspect this is going to be a very long, very drawn out, slow-push/constant-pressure kind of campaign like we had with the socialized medicine offensive of ’09/’10. With this bill and all the other piecemeal bills and the president’s street-theater with the children, I think there’s a long term campaign roughly planned.

Don’t exhaust yourselves, don’t assume you’re done when one bill gets stymied or “killed” for a while, and don’t forget in 2014.

    • Wow, I hope this thing does NOT pass!!!

This is not how I want Canada to become a more gun friendly country than America!!!

  1. This had better be stopped in its tracks, theirs millions of gun owners who Will Not Comply with UnConstitutional Laws or orders. Two just leave us the F*** alone and back off and let this horrible sh** bill die. Molon Labe!

    • Dont get me wrong, I dont want to see this pass at all. That said what will you have to comply with??

If you currently own anything on the list, including high capacity magazines you can keep them and you don’t have to register them.

If you don’t own such items, you simply wont be able to buy them.

There is NO confiscation (yet) and NO registration (yet) that I see.

I do think it will fail anyhow.

      • I’ve noticed there’s more than one Larry on this forum. So I’m going to go by Larry2. Just to keep things straight.

      • But what about the children! Specifically, MY children. So I have the right to bear arms but I cannot pass my arms to my children? And them to theirs? What the “no transfers” means is that we are sacrificing our children’s God-given right to self defense. My children and grandchildren’s lives will be put in jeopardy to gangs and mobs and who-knows-what. Remember, “if we can just save one child…” My child’s life is just as important as anyone else’s, and I’ll be !)@|\/||\/|#!) if I don’t protect their future’s!

        • Read closer. It states high capacity magazines and feeding devices cannot be sold or transferred. Your weapons can still be passed on with stricter checks.

      • If nothing else, this is a foot in the door. Once that is done it leads to all sorts of oddball ideas. As for me I want any kind of weapn the government has. that is what the framers of the Constitution wanted. You to be as well armed as the government so as to oppose tyranny.

  2. FLAME DELETED FLAME DELETED FLAME DELETED FLAME DELETED Feinstein FLAME DELETE FLAME DELETED FLAME DELETED.

  3. Hmmm…..looks like about half of the nonsense she spouted last month. Still unbelievable. Someone got to her.

Also, how convenient that have a little study, siting only a few states and specific criteria to back up the gun grab.

    • Even with the stats she used it is amazing she thinks this thing has a chance. She stated that since the ban expired more than 350 died because of these weapons. So on average (350 deaths/ 8 years=43) 43 people a year die from these weapons. 450 people die each year from falling out of bed according to the CDC. Your chances of being killed by an “assault weapon” is about the same as dying from a dog bite(34 per year) or a vending machine falling on you(13 per year). This bill has to die because we all know it is just a starting point.

      • How about the 9 people each day who drown. No need for swimming pools. People drown, waste of a precious resource, and carbon is used to power the equipment. What’s the likelihood that Sen Feinstein introduces an act to Prevent Useless Deaths in 2013 (known as the “PUD” Act).

        • The national weather service says about 73 people die each year from lighting. Twice as likely to due from lighting, I like my odds!!

        • Swimming pools are okay as long as they dont hold more than ten gallons of water. No more than seven gallons in states where applicable. And they can not have that board thing that makes you go up

    • This witch is hell bent for leather. She’s well-known to have enriched herself via insider trading since she took office. Can anyone blackmail the CA-AG to file charges against her? Then start a recall petition? I know she’s counting on Satan to protect her, but sometimes the wicked fall.

      • Unfortunately, it’s not illegal for members of Congress to profit from insider information.

Yeah, I know, funny how that works. And to think the rubes think ‘unregulated fundraising’ is something they should worry about…

  4. So, for the 2258 approved guns, on the day this mess becomes law does that mean that no new sporting guns can be designed or introduced after this date.

I can’t tell if my SKS is still going to be legal or not. Thank whatever god you believe in this mess will not fly.

    • All AR types, including the following: She covered her bases, just in case she forgot to list one!

      • I didn’t see my semi-auto rifle, but I’m not going to name it, lest it find its way onto the Devil’s List.

        • All semiautomatic rifles and handguns that have a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.

Just hope there isn’t a conversion kit for your model with an 11+ round magazine anywhere on the market. To these people that will give your firearm the “capacity” to accept more than 10 rounds.

    • Looks like your SKS is still in the clear. But its sure hard to keep score lately. I still can’t tell if my .22 will banned or not yet. Can they at lease keep their mitts off the .22’s?

  5. “What the bill does…Absolutely jack sh*t nothing that will reduce gun crimes.”

    There, fixed it for you.

  6. I know this is very new, but does she have any co-sponsors and if so can we get a list! And updated as new idiots….oops senators sign on.

      • I was already there, figured it hadn’t been cataloged yet. Thanks! Saw Luatenbergs (SP) anti gun bills he’s introduced while perusing the sight, and the same five to ten NE democrats were co-sponsors, imagine that!

  7. Where do I sign up to resist this on every possible front? Already wrote my reps, so what next?

    • Call them as well! Talk to someone in person. Have your wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, and kids call and express their displeasure as well. Tell them of the reasons while it will fail.

I have fun telling the Liberal ones that I’m a registered Democrat and that I’m fearful that this bill will lose the Democrats control for another 20 years like the last one AWB. I remind them that it’s political suicide, and as unpopular as the last AWB was, there’s been another 10MM AR15’s sold – that’s a LOT of votes.

That said, I’m able to say I’m a Democrat only because I re-registered as a Democrat so that I was able to chase down Arlen Specter and voted him out of the primaries. He wasn’t the only one that could switch parties.

  8. Technically any standard pistol is capable to “have a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 round” since you can insert a magazine of any size. I don’t like how they chose to word that. It opens interpretation to say any pistol that uses detachable mags is banned.

    • LOL at the Mini 14 Ranch Rifle not being banned as long as you use a 10rnd mag. They have the Tactical in there but I don’t see how the stock Ranch Rifle is excluded by the conditions. Whoops, that’s where knowing ANYTHING about guns would have helped their cause.

    • I think “fixed magazine” is the opposite of a detachable magazine. Usually fed from above with a stripper clip like some of the older broomhandles. Basically a type that hasn’t been made for 70 years but they included it incase someone trys to build a work-around.

      • Actually there is a revolver that accepts a magazine. I forget the creators name but it was barley a one hit wonder in the ’50s. Itwas chambered for .38 and the exclusive ammo was called a “tround.”

Nothing was unusual about the casing or bullet itself but it was wrapped in a triangular case (think of thoes prism shaped pencil grips) that allowed the round to be fed from the magazine to the “cylinder”

  9. She does know that the “Streetsweeper” has been an NFA item for 20+ years & that the SPAS 12 hasn’t been imported much less even made for over 12 years…

    • “Absurd” isn’t the right word. Don’t mistake this for stupidity or foolishness. THIS IS 100% SERIOUS FASCISM!!! I’m not aware anyone ever referred to HITLER as “absurd”!

  10. AGAIN with the barrel shroud……. that Tek-9 must have really scared the pants off of someone……..

  11. DiFi has a bad case of alcohol on the brain from all the Napa Valley wines she’s been drinking over the decades.

  12. We haven’t passed a budget in years, have huge unemployment, and a crappy economy so let’s fix that by attacking one industry the is performing really well. Feinstein should title the bill Fvck Up America Act.

  13. FAWK THIS SHEET!

I have already called all my appropriate Reps/Senators. I suggest everyone do the same along with calling DiFi’s office, Harry Reid, and McConnell.

As I live in Texas, I informed my Rep & Senator that “under NO circumstances will any compromise on Gun Control be acceptable”.

Anyone in a pro-2A state and/or district, make sure to stress that point. SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED is pretty damn clear to me and it needs to be clear to them.

    Godspeed!

  14. “All semiautomatic pistols that can accept a detachable magazine and have at least one military feature: threaded barrel”

That would classify stock walther p22’s as they come from the factory as “assault weapons”. Seeing as the threading is covered by a thread protector and the slide (instead of sticking out), most people aren’t even aware it’s threaded. Stuff like this is going to inadvertently land good people in trouble with the law who didn’t even know they weren’t in compliance.

    • Welcome to California-style firearms law.

This is why CA shooters just sigh when the idea of getting suppressors off the NFA list comes up: we can’t buy weapons with threaded barrels b/c they are “assault weapons”.

      • They don’t, from en engineering standpoint, have to be attached by threads.

If the law is changed…there will be ways around that.

        • As an engineer a small part of me looks forward to the huge middle finger I would be able to raise by working around many of their restrictions. I’m confident I’ll never need to, but they are interesting thought exercises that keep me from being too worried.

        • True, ILP, but the commonly available models all use a threaded connection. Just what I need, a “CA model” suppressor setup that doesn’t interchange with non-CA models and costs 50% more.

      • It’s bad here in Crazyfornia but not quite that bad. My still (for now) perfectly legal M1-A has a threaded barrel. However, if I remember correctly threaded pistol barrels are a no-no here in The People’s Republik for who knows what reason.

        • I thought a threaded barrel was a qualifying feature in the assault-weapon test, and on a pistol that it was the only feature required.

If your M1A has a 10-round magazine and the threaded barrel is its only qualifying feature, then it’s not an assault weapon, right? On the other hand, if you put a threaded barrel onto a bullet-buttoned AR15 with pistol grip, that’s two features (threads, grip) and it’s an assault weapon regardless of magazine size.

Don’t get me wrong — I’d love to have a suppressed M1A. Realistically, though, the market demand would be for AR10/AR15 and pistol suppressors.

  15. I have several specifically named firearms on that list. And what is it with these people and barrel shrouds?

  16. I wonder if the law enforcement guys she had at her press conference would be as supportive if they were not exempted from the bill. I think not.

      • Can’t be upsetting the state’s designated enforcers (or so they see them as) now can they?

“Stay on our side; we’ll never turn our impositions on *you*.”

        • What cops can’t foresee is that, several years down the line, cops will have to leave their guns at the station when they go home. So will soldiers.

NO SHIT. Don’t believe it? Just WATCH.

      • Police unions are the only union that membership hasn’t declined in right to work states. The unions are a collection of people that banned together so there voices can be heard, the way democrats want it. Too bad gun owners don’t have groups that they can be members of to make sure their voices are heard. Oh wait there is the NRA, GOA, NSSF, SAF, etc. too bad they are the mean gun lobby group. I vote right now that each of these groups add the word “union” to the end of their name so these dumbass dems won’t know if they are allowed to hate them.

      • Because otherwise the police unions will oppose the bill, and passing a ‘Law & Order’ bill that police oppose makes it harder to sell. So the cops are routinely excluded from this crap.

    • It’s never very difficult for gun grabber politicians to find fellow travelers among the law enforcement crowd. Big city police chiefs are almost uniformly fascistic in this regard. Sadly, there will always be cops who think they have special rights and privileges compared to us peasants. From their warped perspective the best way to maintain their exalted status is to disarm us. Luckily, The Founders anticipated this problem with a constitutional amendment the exercise of which does not require The Overlords permission.

      Molon Labe

      • Somehow, DG, I think “Molon Labe” probably means more coming from you than many less-well-tooled-up folks here.

How do you say “Come and take it, and if you do, better bring a big-ass cargo truck” in Ancient Greek?

  17. This sounds like a complete ban on pistols:

All semiautomatic pistols that can accept a detachable magazine and have at least one military feature: … pistol grip…..

What?!? All pistols with a pistol grip she wants banned?

(I know she wants all firearms banned, or the “only ones” have them)

    • Also any pistol that has a rail, aka a military feature, for lights, laser, and those F-ing stupid pistol bayonets!

      Absolutely ridiculous!!!

    • She wan’t to ban pistols with a SECOND pistol grip. As in two pistol grips total; one for each hand. Understanding what we’re talking about is what seperates us from the banimals.

      • So what they’re really talking about are semi-auto versions of “machine pistols”, like a MAC-10 or an Mini UZI right?

        • Or moving the forward grip for your AR’s underslung picatinny rail to the rail on your standard semi-auto handgun. This configuration is already covered somewhere (I think NFA AOW?) so I don’t know why she added it to hers. Just to sound scary I’m sure.

        • Haha! As long as you hold them even you should be okay, but if you extend one “forward” of the other I can’t make any promises.

  18. All semiautomatic shotguns that have a folding, telescoping, or detachable stock; pistol grip; fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 5 rounds; ability to accept a detachable magazine; forward grip; grenade launcher or rocket launcher; or shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

Does this mean I can buy a rocket launcher attachment for my 870?

  19. So much for buying that fully automatic, fully shrouded shotgun/PRG-7 combo that I played with on Call of Duty.

You can tell that no one who knows anything about guns had any input in this listing. It’s like they typed in “assault weapons” into Wikipedia.

  20. Wow, I am so glad they are eliminating the scourge of the Barret M82A1-wielding thugs that constantly roam my neighborhood.

    • Yeah well, the thugs around here use grenade launchers and bayonets. Thank goodness I won’t have to worry about those anymore. Plus, the bad guys will probably be too preoccupied with there burned hands from no barrel shroud to worry about me.

    • Pure malice directed at Ronnie Barrett for embarrassing California after they banned .50 cal for civilians. He subsequently refused to do business with any LEO organization in CA that had bought Barrett rifles. So Feinstein personally hates his ass.

Ronnie Barrett is awesome; principles not for sale.

  21. Interesting how they label certain rifles as “AR types” when infact they are not even close….(Beretta CX4 Storm, PS90, Hi-Point Carbine, Kel-Tec Sub–2000, SU–16). Way to do your research Feinstein…..

    • The weapon type categories are separated by a semicolon, not a comma, so in-fact they do not put them in the same category. I thought the same thing, then re-read it.

    • “Military feature” is an arbitrary bullshit term. If the US Army ever used a single action black powder revolver all revolvers could be called “military style”.
That said, No. I don’t see accessory rail on her list, so I assume this bill would not restrict it.

      • I’m sure they think any privately held firearm with the ability to be loaded with bullets (what’s a cartridge?) as having a “military feature.”

  22. Interesting that they haven’t published the “acceptable” list anywhere, not that it really matters.

  23. I know the real reason for listing any feature is to include as many guns as possible, but why the hate for telescoping stocks? How does being able to adjust a gun until it has a comfortable length of pull make it scary?

    • I hear you. If you made a shrouded telescoping thumbhole stock it would probably jump off the table and kill you and your whole family. And I’m just talking about the stock; no chamber, barrel or fireing pin required.

  24. This would ban the Glock 17 because the Glock 18 exists….at least that is how it reads.

■All semiautomatic pistols that can accept a detachable magazine and have at least one military feature: threaded barrel; second pistol grip; barrel shroud; capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip; or semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm.

      • …and with bad maintenance and a particular part breaking in a particular way, some firearms will spontaneously go full-auto without human intervention. For example, the early Remington ACRs.

        • The ACR went full-auto because they neglected to test the gun with a range civilian ammo. They changed the firing pins (calibrated for a couple of brands of military ammo) on the QT.

    • I dont know who makes them or how they work but there are aftermarket conversions for Glocks that convert to full auto. Im not even sure what its called but it replaces the plate at the back of the slide and has a semi/auto selector. The range I shoot at has one on the 9mm long slide.

    • We’ve been through this already, haven’t we? The Glock 17 predates the 18, and therefore fails the test.

If Glock had invented and marketed the 18 first, then created the 17 as a “civilian market” version, then you’d have a problem. Good thing that’s not the history here.

This is targeted at AR-class, AK-class, and MAC-type firearms, full stop. It has nothing to do with an obscure, impossible-to-control select-fire Glock created as a derivative of the original Glock 17.

  25. I read the actual text of this bill (or an earlier version?) that had a tidy (and tiny) little clause in it that makes the “list” superfluous – that clause authorized the BATFE to ban any firearm not enumerated at any time after the bill’s enactment without further Congressional action. Stated another way, after the bill (with that clause) is signed into law, the POTUS and the executive branch have total autonomy to ban additional firearms for whatever reason. I want the text of the actual bill presented to the Senate to see if that’s still in there.

  26. If you ever wondered what a walking, talking anus would look like check out Dianne Feinstein. She has sh*t for brains!

  27. The fact that this bill could even get to this point is a major failure. Like the rest of you, everything I’ve been reading tells me it won’t go through. I’m still terrified of it.

Does it really exclude weapons used by retired law enforcement? As in, weapons privately owned by retired LEOs?

  28. “; or semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm.”

One could argue the Glock 17 the semiauto version of the Glock 18? Not good to try and ban one of the most popular handguns in the world.

    • One could incorrectly argue that the G17 is a version of the G18. Wouldn’t surprise me if someone tried.
But Glocks are popular with LEOs, so the gun grabbers probably won’t go too far with it.

  29. “semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm.”

So the Glock 17 will be banned?

The officers that stood up in support of this POS legislation DO NOT represent all of LE; the majority of officers DO NOT want an AWB and are stocking up, just the same as you are. (IME)

  30. Get on top of your legislators! I have literally been sending a new unique message every day for weeks.

In ADDITION to calling every few days, I find the website http://www.congress.org to be the easiest way to send correspondence to government officials. It sends your message to all the right officials based on your zip code.

Send a personal message to all of your Federal Officials using a single form:
    http://www.congress.org/congressorg/mail/?alertid=61046526&type=ML

Send a personal message to all of yourState Officials using a single form:

  31. Wouldn’t it be easier for her to just ban everything except a bolt action rifle? Because that’s pretty much what we have here, a ban on almost every type of firearm in existence. I’m sure all criminals will comply with this new law post haste.

    • Too obvious. They’re trying to be opaque and sound reasonable here. Or at least so confusing people don’t listen.

      • That will be next, most bolt actions use a Mauser type action theoretically a military feature.

        Baby steps…

Like a lion stalking its prey before it pounces.

  32. YOUUUU SHAALL NOT PASSSSS!!
    ::Shoots rifle into ground::
::The fienstien-balrog falls into the abyss::
    ::Tactical Gandalf doesn’t fall:

  33. Are they trying to ban certain NFA articles? I’m not an expert, but I thought that semi automatic M-11s were a RPB “innovation”, and not one that MAC itself under took. (Note that the ban singles out the MAC M-11, the .380 version of the M-10)(Now, of course this would be a back door machine gun ban, as it would end the transfer of the standard magazines for these guns.)

I also love the part that splits cops and ex cops out from the rest of us. Put in your service to the state, shoot a few puppies, and you get to buy a brand new AR. It only goes to further the drug war divide between cops and the rest of us.

  34. People keep saying we need to “kill” this bill; that it won’t pass or won’t come up for a vote.

I strongly suspect that’s not how this is going to play out. I suspect this is going to be a very long, very drawn out, slow-push/constant-pressure kind of campaign like we had with the socialized medicine offensive of ’09/’10.

Don’t exhaust yourselves, don’t assume you’re done when one bill gets stymied or “killed” for a while, and don’t forget in 2014.

  35. Thumbhole stocks are a “workaround” for pistol grips. I want to know what’s the plan for when criminals find a “workaround” for not having a gun? It seems I came from a place where the “workaround” is lots of bombs placed on roads and whatnot.

There is lots of talk and stats in this bill of “gun” crime. Nothing about total violent crime. What is the plan to reduce violence and tyranny once all the good guys are disarmed? Where is the “workaround” in that?

    • The workaround is that they have bodyguards that are exempt from the law or they fit the law around them therefore it is not their problem and will never be their problem. They are in their own little world with very different “facts” than the rest of us.

Russians are so indoctrinated by their government they don’t even think to own firearms, even though they are legal to own now, and their murder and violent crime rates are about 4 times that of the US without gun use. Scotland has about 11 times the violent crime of the US with no civilian ownership of guns. UK Law Enforcement is so behind on all criminal reporting their standard procedure when witnessing (first-hand, in person) a mugging is to issue a warning. That seems like a step up from places like Cambodia, though, where all authorities carry guns while civilians cannot, so the authorities (Police, Fire Department) can regularly ask for “bonuses”, so both criminals and the authorities can rob you.

Then you look at countries with high gun ownership like Switzerland, German, and Poland and the murder rates are very low. Most of that has to do with culture, education, and economic factors, which politicians will never try to improve, but as we all know from the stats, gun control doesn’t reduce crime.

  36. So these people have Kalifornia just the way they want it, so WHY do they want to make the rest of the country like their state? Therein lies you agenda.

    • If you saw you could control one state easily, who’s to say you wouldn’t get curious about trying it in another state? Power mongering is like lays potato chips….
You cant stop with just one

  37. So, would the “barrel shroud” on a pistol be interpreted as the slide? I mean, it does “shroud” the barrel.

    • I’d say yes, that’s why almost every current AWB specifically exempts slides from these rules.

  38. Ok, some please explain:

    > The legislation excludes the following weapons from the bill:
    > – Assault weapons used by military, law enforcement, and retired law
    > enforcement;

Ok, if officers are citizens and are not special, at what point are they citizens when even after they are retired and may not train anymore do they have to follow the same firearms laws that I do. According to the bill, retired LEO are the same as active LEO — when are they citizens and must follow the same firearms laws? Why are then retired military strangly not exempted?

Is this to keep good graces with the unions thing?

Seriously, this is my big peeve. The whole thing stinks but this just pisses me off.

    • Yeah, it’s probably to keep law enforcement protests limited to the rural sheriffs that are already speaking out.

  39. Everyone keep saying this bill won’t make it anywhere, was that the same general feeling before the 1994 ban?

    • Back in ’94, after that little BBQ down in Waco?

Democratic President, Democratic House, Democratic Senate.

      Nothing we could do.

  40. We have to stop them at any cost. No compromises EVER! They will not stop until they get what they want which is to ban all guns. Look at what one of the NY assemblymen said recently. “One assemblyman said he thought one round of ammunition was all a citizen needed. He suggested that victims of home invasions hide, call 911 and hope that the one round does the job.”

    Source: http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/new-gun-law-rushed-wrong-article-1.1245182?localLinksEnabled=false

We must never let down our guard until all of them are defeated.

  41. > The legislation excludes the following weapons from the bill:
    > – Assault weapons used by military, law enforcement, and retired law
    > enforcement;

Hmmmm…time to become a part time LEO?

  42. This is just the summary. When will she let us see the bill? If she and her staff have been working on it for more than a year, we should have the language by now. Or is it changing because of pressure from other senators?
Also, I had heard that she was moving to classify the Garand and M1Carbine as AWs, but they are not prohibited by name. Are they safe from this law?

    • no pistol grip, fixed stock, bayonet lug doesn’t count, fixed magazine less than 10 rounds (garand), same with carbine but you’d be limited to buying only new 10 round mags for it, so it looks like they both are A-ok.

  43. ok here is my question

    I attended police academy

    I passed my test.

never worked as a police….am i retired….I have just as much training as they do

    why am i different.

  44. I notice she included REVOLVING SHOTGUNS, these were first used in the mid 1850’s. BEFORE the not so CIVIL WAR. That is 160 + year old technology and she wants to ban this? These people need to be taken out behind the woodshed and left there

    • Welcome to legislation based on Hollywood action movies and sensationalist “this happened once so now it’s a trend” news reporting. Isn’t it great? We’ve had it for a number of years here in CA.

  45. They have an article on this at msnbc.com and the comments made me rage. Almost everybody that comments is a liberal who supports the ban. I couldn’t comment on my mobile phones browser, so I figured I’d tell you all if any of you have a sudden urge to educate an idiot today. Oh my god I’ve never seen a larger collection of subservient idiots.

  46. Never will pass. Never. This old goat needs to resign – The purpose of a gun is not to sign happy birthday. We all know that. The issue here is metal health and keeping the people that should not be allowed to access them away from fire arms. Since there is no hope in hell of that they decide to try and ban the gun and magazine since it is an easier target. Sorry… Not buying it…. Good luck getting that though congress you old ugly goat!

  47. And why all the love for Mr. Barrett?(M107A1 amd M82A1 banned by name.) Has one of his rifles EVER been used to commit a crime? Do these people realize how BIG these guns are and how HEAVY? Stupidity, plain and simple. Even though I’ll never afford one, I see no sense in including them in this ban.

    • one reason i can think of.. it can punch thru riotshields, armour, and armoured vehicles.. that might make some people a bit nervous..

  48. Hey did anyone think that she is probably exhibiting those firearms in Washington D.C.? Aren’t they illegally illegal there? Then again it is for educational purposes lol.

  49. “Prohibiting the sale or transfer of large-capacity ammunition feeding devices lawfully possessed on the date of enactment of the bill.”

So…when you die, the government takes your magazines? No passing them down?

    • Yep! Don’t worry, we won’t take your guns. We’ll just take your children’s and grandchildren’s guns away before they are old enough to learn how to use them to resist this delayed gun grab. Remember when they said this was all about the children? You bet it is!

  50. well at least 5 of my rifles are safe for the ban (2 sks and 3 mosins)… but the rest are doomed, BUT im doing my best and praying that this crappy bill by comrade feinstein wont pass

  51. Time to fight call all your reps say kill her ban,

And quite showing that gross picture of the hag from Kalifornia. Ive seen turds better looking than that thing.

  52. Why does it exempt retired LE and not retired military? Not that it makes any difference to an abomination that should have a stake driven through it’s heart to never rise again (wishful thinking). My police chief has declared that he will not enforce any attempt to circumvent the Second Amendment in shape, form or fashion.

    • The militarily customarily stays out of politics, law enforcement (and their unions) frequently endorse candidates.

  53. Sounds wonderful. Looks like a nice long list of newly unemployed Americans, and thier families. How about some crime control instead of a new list of crimes.

  54. Where are the countering bills? You know, like the one proposing Nationwide Constitutional Carry! I know it won’t pass either but at least it will hijack the debate for a while. And it’s actually a good idea and constitutional, it say so right in the name.

  55. I would love to see some stats on how many of the weapons they are proposing to ban are used in actual crimes. There are more than a few weapons on that list that are collectors items and probably retail for near $10,000 or more. Are these guns really being used in crimes?

    • We all know damn well, just like Feinstein does, that this has absolutely nothing to do with crime or the prevention thereof.

  56. FYI–the mag ban is gonna stick folks.

There will be no way to enforce it on mags already in existence but there will be no more made for civilians…ever 🙁

  57. What’s with the ban on every conceivable type of Tommy Gun, whether rifle or pistol? Who the freaking hell has ever committed a crime with one of those since Prohibition was repealed? I mean, seriously. I know F’Stein is old and all, but it’s not like she has any personal memories of being attacked by a gangster from the 20’s.

  58. “The 1994 Assault Weapons Ban was effective at reducing crime and getting these military-style weapons off our streets. Since the ban expired, more than 350 people have been killed and more than 450 injured by these weapons.”

In this paragraph they FINALLY admit that assault rifles are the least used firearm in gun murders, yet at the same time they use those tiny numbers(350 murders) out of about 115,000 gun murders since the 94 ban expired in 04. ARE THESE PEOPLE DERANGED!? If they truly cared about gun murders they would of tried to ban handguns as the majority of all gun murders are committed with handguns. I’m not for any ban on anything, but you think they would of made a Handgun Ban instead of a Assault Weapons ban. This is clearly ridiculous legislation that will most likely never get passed. I don’t even see the extended mag bill passing. More proof the gungrabbers are after one thing and one thing only, our guns. Confiscation.

  59. Gee, I guess my M1 Garand didn’t make DiFi’s list of terrible “assault rifles”. No scary thing (flash suppressor) on the front of the barrel. No terrible detachable clip (magazine). No horrible pistol grip. No barrel shroud, just a wooden forearm. I guess I don’t have to worry about it. LIKE H-LL! Stand up Freedom Fighters this isn’t about gun control, this is about preserving everything in The Bill of Rights. Let your reps in your state and Washington know how you feel. I sure as H ll did!!

  60. All I saw when I got to the list of ban firearms was the number of people that will be unemployed if this goes through. I wonder how many children will be affected when their parent is out of work and can’t find any in their trade because it’s been decimated by this?

  61. Could you still have a Springfield M1A if they pass this ‘Commie Caper’?
A full on Battlerifle not being seen as able to cause mayhem?
    Psycho libtards.

  62. Why do these polticians always assemble a table or wall full of weapons? Is this really about the children, or is it all about the photo-op?

    • Don’t worry, they are learning how to line up rows of children to exploit for political gain. Just so long as you don’t use the Obama kids, they are part of the elite class after all.

  63. I really hope Feinstein only writes these bills out of stupidity, because anyone with this kind of power, pushing this kind of legislation, knowing it’s absolute male cow excrement, might be the actual literal Antichrist.

  64. Do NOT listen to the pundits and the experts who say that gun control legislation cannot pass. They also said the same about ObamaCare after Scott Brown was elected, and what happened? The Democrats figured out a way to do it anyhow. Many pundits and experts also said there was no way Obama could be re-elected with a high unemployment rate, a sluggish economy, and massive debt. But what happened?
This time around, the anti-gun crowd has Obama, Biden, Bloomberg, Cuomo, and others out there pulling out all the stops to “campaign” on this issue, with the media and Hollywood on their side. But the pundits and the experts are saying that new gun control legislation has no chance of passing? Really? Don’t they understand that the liberals will demonize the NRA, gun owners, and anyone who supports the Second Amendment, much like they did with Mitt Romney? Do NOT under-estimate these people. If you do, and become lazy and complacent, you will awaken one morning to find that the Second Amendment is gone and you are now a criminal. And all because you believed the pundits and the experts.

  65. Her Kalifornia version requires background checks on all ammo purchases. That’s supposedly OK Consitution-wise, yet asking for ID at the polls is unconsitutional. Wow.

  66. the thing that ticks me off is that in both Arizona and Sandy Hook an “Assault weapon” was not used in either of those attacks. the Coroners report as well as the investigation revealed that in Sandy Hook the perpetrator used four sidearms, a Bushmaster was found in the trunk of his car with a jam in the reciever and it was found to have been used by him to kill his mother. in the Arizona shooting the perpetrator used a Glock model 19. in the Aurora shooting the Smith and Wesson M&P 15 had a drum Magazine that jammed at under 30 rounds and was dropped on the floor, the bulk of the injuries were from a shotgun and the two sidearms he was carrying. in Virginia tech shooting there were no rifles used just two sidearms. i read a story that one of the Presidential aids was overheard saying” we need to pass the Assault weapons ban before the reports are let out to the public” knowing full well that a ban would carry more ammunition if the press and the public didnt know that a Semi Automatic Rifle was not used.

  67. all for the agenda ,damn rights and rule of law ! this is what socialism is all about ,total control !!!

  68. WHO keep voting in this Frankenstein Feinstein Witch anyway? Somebody please tell me the last time anybody was killed with a fixed bayonet? Sheesh!!
