In the video below you can sample the majesty that is MotherFeathair’s performance at last year’s 2016 National Championships air guitar performance. If you lose the will to live, skip to 2:53 for the anti-gun violence messaging at the end. “The reason we do air guitar,” the MC reveals, “and this started in Finland,” he adds, strangely, “is that we believe if that you’re holding an air guitar, you cannot be holding a gun.” That’s news to me, on a lot of levels. You?

  1. Go to YT videos by Varusteleka.com or InRangeTV and you’ll see lots of Finnish videos that show that you can’t hold an air guitar when you’re shooting a gun.

But the inflatable doves are a nice touch.

ETA: I liked the old website logo

    • I do not like the new site look, but I never really liked the old site setup either. This seems to have the same negatives as the old site but all the whiteness is harder on my eyes and wastes space. It might be better for smartphone users, but it looks like we’ve gone 15+ years back in time. Anyway, I agree the guy is super-gay, and air guitar is just for people who can’t actually play the guitar (like Bill and Ted).

    • I requested this be deleted for a reason, guys. The mustache-twirling dastards at the NFL won’t allow their videos to play on any other websites.

  2. That is the lamest thing I have probably ever seen. I fast forwarded to the “performance” and could only watch a few seconds. I actually play real guitar (for over 20 years) including flamenco guitar, and played in a rock/pop cover band in Portland for 10 years. Just think how much time some idiots put into perfecting their air guitar – they could probably actually learn to play the guitar somewhat (maybe). Not to mention, the hand movements were not accurate, at all, for what is actually being played (in the several seconds that I watched).

  3. If you just hammered the strings with your non-dominant hand, you could still hold a handgun in your dominant hand. See? Problem solved.

  4. Think for a moment of the gun equivalent to air guitar: pointing the hand in the shape of a gun and saying bang. This is what 5 year old kids do. Adults shouldn’t be playing air guitar or “air gun”. Do we really care what some adult man children think about guns?

  5. Air guitar was created in Finland? It must have been prior to 1981. In fall of 1981, Sherburne Earlville Central School Talent show was won by an Air Band “performing” Living After Midnight by Judas Priest. Their win was a landslide. The air drummer Bill Adsit was actually quite good, leading me to believe that he was an actual drummer.

  6. “…we believe if that you’re holding an air guitar, you cannot be holding a gun.”

I disagree. A 1911 makes an excellent fret board.

    • This is what I was thinking — a rifle would make an excellent stand-in for a guitar.

In fact, it might be the best of both worlds. Next time I go out shooting, I’m going to crank up Corrosion of Conformity and do some air guitar on the firing line before sending lead downrange.

  7. Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Carlos Santana, Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix, BB King, Johnny Winter, Ted Nugent and Robert Fripp to name a few great guitarists. These air guitar people are pathetic.

  8. I was playing my air guitar last night, and an air string broke right in the middle of a really great solo.

    I HATE WHEN THAT HAPPENS!

Fortunately, the rest of my air band covered for me. A roadie was able to quickly hand me my backup air guitar, and I was able to continue playing.

    LOL
