If you read this morning’s quote of the day – and the linked New York Times article – it seems evident that Colorado Senate President John Morse has an uphill climb in front of him. And he knows it. He’s furiously flailing, trying to fend off people in his Colorado Springs district who are just crazy enough to think that the Constitution actually means what it says. Go figure. And while the People of the Gun in Angela Giron’s Pueblo constituency may have a tougher row to hoe to unseat her, the anti-gun left appears to be going all in to avoid what would be a couple of embarrassing (and educational) losses. Kelly is welcome to whatever opinion he wants to have, but as an officer on active duty in the Navy, I find using his rank every time he comes up offensive.
He retired in 2011. He had to to take on this new role. The Navy would have forced him had he tried to do what he does today while on active duty.
And since he’s retired, he’s no longer a Captain.
Not quite. He will retain his Commission until he turns 65. The “retired” pay is more properly called retainer pay. I am a retired Captain, USAF, and was subject to recall until I turned 65, two years ago. The title remains for life.
As a military officer I find that this turd never took his OATH OF OFFICE seriously.
“I, _____ (SSAN), having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God.” (DA Form 71, 1 August 1959, for officers.)
What part of “defend the Constitution” does he not understand? Any individual who takes this oath as an American and pushes for laws against the Constitution should immediately be tried for treason. The Constitution is not up for change and amendments can only improve not take away from it’s intent.
There are a lot of officers who do not take their oath seriously. It is a formality they do to go through the motions. I know quite a few who do not believe in the constitution as written. I on the other hand studied my oath and also the constitution. In my second command I had a pocket constitution.
Kind of like this oath:
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
I guess the good Captain feels if the example set forth by the Comander in Chief is you can wipe your ass with the Constitution, then why should he (the Captain) be held to a higher standard?
I understand this does not justify his actions, nor do I support the actions of either individual having upheld the oaths I’ve taken. I’m just pointing out the way people like that think.
My issue is less with that he was in the military and more that any time he comes up, there is an emphasis on his rank…
Maybe I just need to grow my skin a bit thicker (although I AM a submariner, so my dermis is not thin to begin with) but the stink of his politics gets attached to the Service when CAPTAIN Mark Kelly is the refrain…

@ PeteZ he was a navy Captain, so an O6…a pretty accomplished naval aviator and astronaut as well. IIRC he had a DFC a bunch of other notable decorations. I too have trouble reconciling his current douchy-ness with his very commendable career. Perhaps having your wife shot in the head changes a persons perspective. I don’t see any problem with him using his rank in communications, but he should indicate that he is retired. i.e “Mark Kelly CAPT, USN (Ret)”

That’s what I heard about the recalls. They were started locally and the NRA name wasn’t attached to any of the ones I heard about. (I heard of two that I can remember.)
I live in Morse’s District. I can’t go anywhere without hearing people talk about this, and perhaps it’s simply a symptom of the circles I tend to run in, but everyone I talk to think he’s going to go down HARD. The only problem is the RINO mouthpiece who is running against him.
Colorado will live or die in the next election.

I think it is sad that any veteran would seek civilian disarmament of their own country. For any number of speculative reasons, the Navy appears to have a much higher representation within the civilian disarmament movement than any other service branch.

My father served in the Navy in Vietnam and was vehemently pro-gun, but he also criticized the Navy extensively. Specifically glory boys like John Kerry and the racist officers he served under.

I agree with the GOA as well. I would also like to add that most states have an affiliate NRA organization that is very active at the state level. In addition, many states have a concealed carry group.

Was the NRA involved in either recall petition? I thought it was more a grass-roots effort. Well, if the NRA wasn’t involved before, they should be now.
There is an all out smear going on against the NRA on several fronts. This is the real reason Gabby and her punk husband started their faux PAC. They are trying to get a portion of Gun owners tricked into thinking they are pro gun. It is a trick to incrementally get where they want to be. Gabby and Mark clearly think only elitists and Gov. should have guns in this country.

I’ve posted on some lefty blogs to correct the rhetoric that the NRA is funded mostly by the firearms industry, but all the posts were either deleted didn’t make it through moderation. Happens to all of us I gather. Well, when evil people go out of their way to silence us, it just reminds us that we are playing for the right team.
I feel terrible for Gabby because her rat “husband” is using her ruthlessly and mercilessly and she can’t even cry out for help.
I think Mark is much of a pawn as Gabby is. In this case, Gabby is Mark’s pawn, and Mark is MACOG’s (MAIG’s real name: Mayors Against Citizens Owning Guns) pawn. I dunno if he was an anti before her unfortunate incident or not, but he sure was poisoned after… my guess is he had MAIG sympathizers talking to him that the idiot behind the gun would have been 100% impotent if there were no guns to be had by citizens.
This in no way excuses Mark from his douchery, nor does it imply Gabby was not a victim OR deserved her attack.
Gabby turned down a security detail. There were people killed in the assassination attempt.

I find it really odd the Mark, Gabby Gabber, and Bloomer seem upset that the thought someone out of Colorado is supporting the citizens. Yet their PACs and faux movement have been meddling in multiple states with “paid” demonstrators.
I got an email from Gabby’s PAC complaining about the NRA getting the recall. I emailed them back and reminded them that it was the People of Colorado voting in the election. I also suggested they turn in all of their guns and ccw licenses to their sheriff so they wouldn’t have to be hypocrites while promoting their gun ban agenda and pretending to be gun friendly.
I try to keep up with MAIG and Gabby’s faux PAC.
Bloomberg lost again on his sugary drinks ban…the appeals court tossed it this time….I hope the voters of those districts in Colorado toss these two idiots and that strikes a chord of fear across the nation to the 217 Congressional Traitors that voted with the NSA ..and that they get tossed on their asses as well…then we need to move as a mob on to the NSA/CIA and get them de-funded as well….then start investigating all of them on treason charges…get some convictions of the CIA/NSA/DIA/Pentagon folks….NCIS, etc….Impeach Congress…The President and VP…convict them all of treason and start hanging them…. now!

In the first paragraph of his response he says meaningful solutions. Sure, the proposed solutions might be meaningful in the sense that they are aimed at doing good and their hearts are in the right place and all that. But they won’t work and will only disarm those who care about the laws.
