Robert Francis O’Rourke hasn’t gotten a lot of love for his confrontational, “Hell yes we’re going to take away your AR-15” approach to gun control. He’s even taken flak even from some in his own party who see all that loose confiscation talk as counter-productive to deceiving the electorate persuading voters that they really don’t want to take their guns.

Beto, though, has nothing to lose. When your failing campaign is hopelessly mired in the 1-3% support range, you have to do what you have to do in order to stay relevant and keep from sinking to the levels of obscurity inhabited by the likes of Michael Bennet and John Delaney.

But Beto is probably buoyed with the knowledge that none other than Congresswoman Zoolander herself, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a big supporter of his stance on gun-grabbing. She issued the following tweet . . .

With friend like that, how can he fail?

  1. In 2018 the NRA contributed less than $800,000 to all candidates total.
    So far UCLA alone has contributed $1.3 million to Bernie Sanders.
    So, yeah, let’s get that evil big money out of politics.

    A nickle from anyone remotely conservative is evil big money while million dollar checks from Google, Facebook, major universities….those are all grassroots donors. Honk, honk.

    • I once calculated what it would take, if the NRA were to cease all spending on political campaigns and lobbying, for the Financial & Real Estate industries to make up for the loss. If I recall correctly, thei would have to increase their contributions by 3%.

      The NRA as a big-money tool of the firearms industry is one of the canonical lies of the Left and its pet media. It never really made any sense, though. Think about it, how big IS the firearms industry? Not that big, really, in the grand scheme of things. How much money are you spending on guns this year, compared to, say, food? Housing? Cars? Energy to run them all?

      Now instead of money, let’s talk about votes. How many people would go to the mat for their banker? Where was the grassroots activism for stricter bankruptcy laws? When’s the last time you saw a Bank of America bumper sticker?

      Clearly the NRA’s influence is about votes. It’s barely a drop in the bucket when it comes to financial influence.

    • Many of the biggest contributors are unions, including public employee unions. They are what leftists accuse the NRA of being. Compared to that hurricane of money, the NRA is weak mouse fart.

    • In return, the universities and unions and abortion clinics get massive government subsidies and favor. It’s an obvious I’ll scratch your back, you scratch mine. What does the NRA get in return?

      • No abortion clinic receives funds for providing abortions, haven’t for years. They have received funds solely for health screenings for women and birth control counseling.

        • Of course, and when I get my welfare check, it’s only to provide for my children, never to buy drugs with.

          If it were only for other health services, then we could only give money to clinics that don’t offer abortion, but no, they won’t let us do that will they? Why is that?

        • Planned Parenthood is the largest recipient of federal Title X funds. Title X is not supposed to make funds available to abortion providers, but Planned Parenthood gets around the legal prohibition by formally separating its abortion clinics and its other family planning services, even when those are located in the same facility and essentially funded jointly

        • Larry, it was proposed that we only give federal funds to clinics that don’t offer abortion, as in they are in no way affiliated with abortion like Planned Parenthood is. PP and the pols in their pocket, as well as the media of course, acted like this was insanity. So I ask again, why is that? PP reliably donates to pro-abortion politicians, and in return they make sure the federal money keeps rolling in.

        • Taxpayer money goes in and they pay massive amounts of money to Democrat campaigns. You can say it’s different money but thats just a game. Planned parenthood also does ver little heath services for woman. Abortion is their bread and butter

        • Have you ever visited a new-car dealership? Ever notice that they have multiple ‘divisions’ in the same building, such as new-car sales, used-car sales, service, parts, body shop, and so on, all in the same building or on the same property?

          Do you actually think that funds received from new-car sales NEVER makes its way to the service department, or vice-versa? Do you think that income from the parts department CANNOT be used to keep the electricity for the building that contains the sales floor flowing, or the rest of the building clean? Do you believe that the coffee served in the waiting room for the service department is NEVER consumed by a salesman?

          Money is fungible. Accounting is creative. People are fools. Politicians are people, or at least can pass in dim light.

  7. Lots of people think AOC and Beto and others of the same ilk are idiots. That is a mistake. They’re not a bunch of morons, they’re a bunch of hard core Marxists who have infiltrated every western nation and they want to destroy this country and the world and they won’t stop until there is one world government controlling everybody on this planet. The Democratic Party has been of this mindset for decades, it’s just that during the past few years, they now think it’s safe to act like it rather than keep it hidden.

  12. This is not new at all. Historically the Southern Democrats were out in public passing racist gun control for hundreds of years. The difference now is you have Democrats all over the country trying to pass more racist gun control. And you have connected non white lawmakers jumping on the bandwagon as well.

    • Timeline is off. The first gun control bills in the south were passed after the Civil War. Before that, the slaves did not have the right to own property, so it was not a concern. There were a few concealed carry bans in a few states before the War, but those applied to (white) criminals. Heller discusses those cases, if you are interested.

  16. Anally Orally-Confused needs to go back to tending bar. Culo O’Dork’s proposed action would precipitate mass non-compliance and possibly the spark that ignites the next Civil War. Attempting to negate the 2nd Amendment by fiat, in all likelyhood lead to the first arrest, and removal of a President by the citizenry (a totally legal and Constitutionally permited action under the Constitution). In truth, we the people can arrest and confine any elected or appointed official complicit in an act of tyranny.

Beto’s performance during his run for the Presidency has shown that his philosophy, plans, ideas, etc are so far from reality in this Constitutional-Representative-Democracy that he would be more at home running for political office in a socialist country. I am not sure which one is worse, Beto or AOC’; I believe AOC because she is already an elected Representative. Their plans for the confiscation of weapons shows a complete lack of an understanding of Individual Property Rights under the Constitution. Their following is only a reality because of the dumbing down of voters because of education failures in the realm of history, civics, politics and contrasting of political systems and their failures/successes, etc.
