agreed miforest, the 7.62×39 model would compliment my arsenal very well, my next question is how will it deal with steel cased ammo?
I asked my guys at Mid America Arms if the 7.62 x 39 was a good fit for the AR platform. They pointed out how the AK magazine gently curves to accommodate stacking the tapered cartridge. Their experience is that the AR platform with its straight magazine well caused feeding issues as the cartridges made the transition from curve to straight.
No idea if Armalite has solved this problem.
This looks so cool: I’ve always preferred mid-length uppers to the M4 style because there’s more room to put your hand and because the longer gas systems are more reliable and gentler on the bolt than the carbine versions.
If this SPR is anything like ArmaLite’s other guns, I’d expect it to shoot 1.0-1.5 MOA with good ammo in the 6.8 caliber. Probably no better than 2.5 MOA with the 7.62×39, though; nobody can do much for that cartridge’s accuracy, I’m afraid.

That’s more a function of the individual cartridges than it is the cartridge design on the whole. I’m sure if you got down to it, had some brass forged, and handloaded to tight tolerances, that you could get some respectable performance out of the cartridge.
You’re completely right, it could be an accurate round if the ammo and chambers were consistent. The bulk 7.62 we shovel into our AKs is only made to be cheap, making even the best (Arsenal) AKs 3-4 MOA guns.
Yes. This. I want. I’d love to have a well made, ergonomic rifle in 6.8 for rare hunting and home defense. Mid-length gas system and default BUIS seal the deal for me. Looking or ward to seeing what price this comes out at.
