In yet another example of how people bent on mayhem and murder will find any way to accomplish their evil plans, a Columbus, Ohio, man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to run over three people with his vehicle following an argument. Sure, who hasn’t thought this was the best way to resolve a conflict? Fortunately, in yet another shining example, it was ultimately an armed citizen who stopped it from happening.

Alexander Oglesby, 32, of Northeast Columbus reportedly drove his car onto the front lawn of a residence in the 1800 block of Noe Bixby Road in the early morning hours of October 5. The suspect intended to use his vehicle to run down three people in response to an argument that had taken place between the individuals earlier that evening.

According to police, it was around 2 a.m. when the attack occurred, an altercation that could have ended in significant tragedy had it not been for one of the would-be victims pulling a firearm and taking a shot at Oglesby who was doing his best impression of Stunt Man Mike from the campy 2007 thriller, Death Proof. Unfortunately, nobody put a stop to that film’s production before it was too late, unlike this incident which came to an immediate halt when our armed citizen’s bullet struck the suspect in self-defense.

Oglesby was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries before taking a taxpayer-funded ride to the Franklin County Jail where he was subsequently charged with three counts of felonious assault. While felonious assault charges are considered a second-degree felony in Ohio, and a conviction can result in significant prison time, I can’t really wrap my head around the idea that this isn’t attempted murder.

Upon investigation, Columbus Police have concluded the obvious, calling the shooting an act of self-defense. I have to hand it to the shooter here as it can’t be easy to make a shot like that with adrenaline pumping and a vehicle barreling toward you. It is important to remember that there is never any argument that can not be de-escalated before someone decides to run people over with their car, however, people make strange and unaccountable decisions nonetheless. In this case, swift action saved not only our armed citizen’s life but the lives of two other people who, I’m positive, are grateful he had a gun that night.

  1. While it is all well-and-good that the armed defender managed to stop the attacker before he injured any of the innocent people, note that the armed defender probably would have faced less risk had he not gone outside to taunt confront the attacker.

Remember the pearl of wisdom: the only fight that you are guaranteed to win is the fight that never happens at all.

Walk away from unreasonably difficult people at the first opportunity.

          • Oh, well I was referring to sudden and dynamic confrontations with an individual or a few people. And I was referring to situations where you are able to go about your business after stepping away.

            • Exactly my point. Many conflicts are the result organized criminal activity targeting an individual. Avoiding conflict is a natural reaction, but sooner or later, the scum get lucky. Plus they gain in numbers over time. Avoiding conflict is certain defeat, because they are not going to go away.

Dude is right that it applies to various political/religious philosophies.

            • .gov sitting on a report if it could be timed to hurt a candidate that might cut their power/money no never. While I would hope that wouldn’t be the case the constant lies we got during the recent pandemic have largely removed any benefit of doubt most agency has if there is and reason to be sneaky.

              • Gotta be impressed by the judge that said it would be interfering in the election if she did not interfere in the election. That’s really dropping the mask in brassy fashion.

              • After what we see for parental, medical, firearms, and various 1st amendment rulings up here before adults get to review the law (oh and kangaroo court tier political prosecutions) that is somewhat tame for me. Not unimportant or absent of utterly abhorrent logic just doesn’t make the wtf cut.

      • Close but incorrect. The only fight you are guaranteed NOT TO LOSE is the one that doesn’t happen. Is that the same as winning? It depends.

    • .40 cal Booger,

Your link may be nice information–I am just about completely done with YouTube because they keep forcing me to watch a three-minute advertisement before EVERY DAMN VIDEO, even if the videos are only 15 seconds long.

I can understand a short advertisement of 15 to maybe 30 seconds before being able to watch several videos. This current situation is unbearable. Consider a different platform with the content that you want us to watch.

    • Oh yeah likely a “freedom week” deal. 5 daze of freedom for Illinois peons until it’s reversed. There’s a backlog of paid for & background checks passed in ILLANNOY gun shop vaults. I have no $ for a gat right now but it’d be swell if we got our “rights”!

  4. @Debbie W above.
    Golly gee miss projectionist.
    FYI I’m voting for Trump.
Wow. It appears ttag has got miner49 with his TDS and Debbie W on the other side with her own version of TDS.
Based on these two lunatics it appears not voting may be the wise choice.
Okay Debbie, you’ve convinced me. I’m not voting, your welcome.

  5. Well, I can at least have empathy for the victim. I was working one Thanksgiving Eve when my cell rang. It was my Dad so I answered. Relatives are in town. Cousins husband wants to do a ride along. I never did those for anyone that I didn’t already know. I mean trust my life with know. My cousin in law is a good guy, but he was unproven. It was a very cold night. Cold front just passed through. High winds, low temps and I hadn’t had call. Okay, get in, I can use the company. It wasn’t five minutes before we were in a pursuit. At one point I exited my vehicle. Guy tried to run over me. Aggravated assault on LEO w/motor vehicle, as well as a few other charges. Seven years.

    • I did 30 years in L.E. I welcomed ride Along’s. Dept policy was all had to be adults and must submit to a background check. I don’t know what it was, but whenever I had a ride along, Nothing Happened. No calls to felony crimes, traffic collisions, nothing. It was weird. I am sure some ride along participants were thinking, “You get paid for this”!

  6. My entire life (50 years) the only person I have ever heard of name “Oglesby” was a character in a book. Now in the last month I’ve encountered that name twice more. Just seems like an odd coincidence.
