Let’s face facts: the Mexican drug lords have more money than most South American countries. Each. Cash. They have so much money they can commission jewel-encrusted, gold-plated AK-47’s just for the sheer hell of it. If the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF and what happened to E?) thinks that curtailing the exportation of guns from the U.S. to Mexico is going to cause a light arms supply problem for the drug cartels operating south of the border, then HA. The bad guys will just get them . . . somewhere else. Anyway, here’s the agency’s plan via the AP . . .
The permanent 10-member teams will be based in two cities in the border region — in Brownsville, Texas, and Sierra Vista, Ariz. — and away from the border where smugglers have set up trafficking routes and recruit gun buyers in Dallas, Las Vegas, Oklahoma City, Atlanta and Miami . . .
The teams set up by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are a follow-up to earlier temporary groups of investigators who worked in Houston and Arizona and seized about 2,000 guns.
Of course, that’s not the real point of the ATF’s new initiative. It’s political window dressing to counter the Mexican Prez’s caterwauling about America’s responsibility for his lawless society. And the Democratic Congress’s appeasement of said Presidente.
Anyway, can someone please remind me why we need the ATF? Shouldn’t this be the purview of the U.S. Border Patrol? FBI? Justice Department? CIA? State Police? Homeland Security? I know! Let’s form an inter-agency task force!
If the Mexicans don't want our firearms going into their country they should try and control their border, if they keep refusing to do so…F..K em!
