So, uh, what IS it about? For Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his fellow gun control advocates, “it” is about the fact that President Obama somehow forgot to mention gun control in last night’s State of the Union address. Hizzoner said he was “disappointed” that the Prez didn’t use the Loughner spree-killing as a jumping off point for an impassioned plea for gun control. (Although the Prez did use the Safeway Massacre as a jumping-off point for the entire speech.) This morning, the President’s staff spent a good five minutes pseudo-reassuring common senseis that the Commander-in-Chief would, indeed, address the whole gun thing. “I wouldn’t rule out that at some point the president talks about the issues surrounding gun violence,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters aboard Air Force One. “I don’t have a timetable or, obviously, what he would say.” Bloomie’s crew think he doth protest too little.

  1. It’s amusing to watch His Lameduckness, the Mayor, struggle to remain relevant. I expect him run run for another office or two as he vainly tries to hold onto political power. In the end, though, he’s just a Rudy Giuliani wannabe.

  2. The rebuttable is really simple: 1] You can’t legislate against crazy; and 2] The U.S. Supreme Court has consistently ruled the police are not responsible for the safety of the individual citizen.
“Resistance to sudden violence for the preservation not only of my person, my limbs and life, but of my property, is an indisputable right of nature which I have never surrendered to the public by the compact of society, and which perhaps I could not surrender if I would.” – John Adams, American Patriot, U.S. President, British Traitor

Like how gun buying and carrying has increased and crime is down?
