“The legislature of the state of Texas has not only decided that university classrooms should be less safe than they were before, because they’re basically inviting accidents, misjudgments and potential hostility, but they’ve also decided that the classroom is a potential battlefield instead of a place for contemplation and deliberation.” – Siva Vaidhyanathan in Texas fears ‘brain drain’ now that public universities will allow guns on campus [at rawstory.com]

    • We may not be the sharpest tools in the shed, but we know enough to not live somewhere without natural water sources, whilst claiming the world is getting drier and warmer… like your SoCal cohorts.

We do have West Texas, but in all fairness, people do not live there because it’s trendy. They live there because there are a lot of combustible gases and dinosaur bones in the ground.

    • Remind me again where NASA is, where the world’s largest medical/research center is, the second largest financial center in the states, and center of the fossil-fuel world? Right.

As for the article… once again idiots are running around decrying “blood in the streets” only now it’s “blood in the classroom” and yet another ridiculous prediction will prove to be Chicken Little at work again. How do they even listen to themselves after every failed prediction?

  1. yeah because schools are so unsafe in colorado and the 8 other states that allow CC on university

  2. I sincerely hope that campus carry causes a “brain drain” of liberal teachers fleeing universities.

You ever notice that “rampant racism” and “rape culture” on campuses are on campus run almost exclusively by liberals?

    • If this is the type of brain drain we face, then campus carry could be the single greatest law ever passed by the Texas legislature.

Now we just need to work on a constitutional amendment to outlaw welfare (i.e., the State taking other people’s tax dollars and “redistributing” them). Replace welfare with one-way bus tickets to the liberal paradise of the individual’s choosing, ban it by constitutional amendment, and that will stop illegal immigration and Californication dead in its tracks. Then combine that with the brain drain of the hyper-liberals out of our universities to stop the Austinization of the new generation, and you just may secure liberty in Texas once and for all.

      • We have an amendment for that. Unfortunately the 4th has fallen into even deeper disregard than the 2nd.

    • By their fruits you shall know them; And when they run from the light of freedom, you know they dwell in the darkness of tyranny and enslavement.

    • A mass caravan of “Back to the Castro or Bust” departing Austin etc would be a huge benefit.

  3. “Higher education under assault.” or is it budget cuts is why your moving on. While illegals back fill high schooler jobs, the educational system and politicians sold young people college is a better regardless of the degree. Upon completion and drowning in debt, profession that pay require real work told the liberal art major move on.

The educational system wants illegal students, not because he care, but for the federal money. Money they’re rewarded if an illegal shows up for one hour a day then leaves. The education castle has no conscience how they get their coin.

The bell curve is getting lower every year…it’s not about the gun.

  4. Oh my the horror! I can’t imagine how scared they are when they are not on campus. They probably pee themselves at the thought of the 3% who carry legally off campus. now they have nowhere left to hide, except bars, hospitals, court houses, amusement parks, sporting events, primary schools and places with signs to hide where no one is supposed to carry and wait to be shot by people who pick those places because they are off limits.

    • I think so. Took me while to figure out they sponsor quote of the day but have nothing to do with the quote. I must have missed the announcement.
I would like to see all sponsorship of this type rather than the ads so the script would stop crashing my phone browser.

      • I would much rather see this kind of ad revenue generation, than all the which celebs are bisexual, big titty wedding dresses, and perfectly times ball hits person in face ads.

        • A-frickin’-men.

Heck, if Blue Force Gear is sponsoring the Quote of the Day, put a hyperlink on their name right in the title, fine with that. But get rid of those crass, stupid clickbait ads with their autoplay videos and their javascript and all that.

        • New legal steroid, picture of two couch arms pushed together to look like a bent-over lady’s snatch, and all about texting cheaters…

But, don’t call some anti-gunner a douchebag in the thread, mkay?

    • It’s really confusing when they tie it in to an article’s title.

Robert, please find a better way to sell sponsorships. This is confusing and lessens the impact of the article.

      • This is a standard way of generating advertising revenue on the radio. “Your Quote of the Day, brought to you by Leadco Construction”, for instance. Unless you like the idea of the subscription model this is a painless and pre-existing means of taking care of business.

        • “Quote of the day brought to you by Blue Force Gear” would be an improvement over the current syntax.

        • Agree with Curtis, it’s confusing wording as-is. Would be better as “Quote of the Day (brought to you by Blue Force Gear)” or something like that.

        • I’m with Shwiggie. I find “Blue Force Quote of the Day” understandable and less confusing than the “Tostitos Half Time Show brought to you by Toyota” kind of stuff that happens in major sporting events. An announcement would have offered some clarification (if I missed it then shame on me).

  5. I am always appalled at the disconnect from reality displayed by these people.

“they’ve also decided that the classroom is a potential battlefield instead of a place for contemplation of deliberation.”

We didn’t decide that it could be a battlefield. A number of loonies and evil men decided that they could make a gun-free campus their own personal war zone.

As if half these professors and Anti-gunners want any real deliberation or do any actual contemplation.

  6. There are more states without campus carry, than with it.

You’re more than welcome to go to those states if you’re are displeased with they way things we going here in Tejas.

Kind of like all the radical liberal celebrities who keep saying if Trump wins they will flee the country – don’t threaten me with a good time.

  7. … [the Texas legislature has] also decided that the classroom is a potential battlefield … – Siva Vaidhyanathan

Not at all. Terrorists and spree killers who have designated college classrooms their personal killing fields have decided that the classroom IS a battlefield.

Oh, and the violent criminals who rob, assault, and rape students to and from classrooms have designated college campuses their designated defenseless prey zones.

The violent people who seek to rape, plunder, and murder us have defined the battlefields whether we like it or not. Either you can ignore that fact or prepare yourself.

    • Wait a minute. I thought love was a battlefield. Has Pat Benetar been wrong all these years?

      • Pat Benatar was right all along when you consider the fact that terrorists kill their victims out of a “love” for their perverted religion, spree-killers kill their victims out of a love for fame/revenge (against society for perceived wrongs), rapists rape for love of violent conquest, and robbers rob for love of “free” money.

  8. For people who take such positions which rely on ignoring or discounting evidence that exists all around them is it a lot of work to avoid information each day or is their preconceived bias so powerful it creates an information forcefield that automatically repels any data contrary to the bias?

I see this everyday as somebody in the IT field where folks are literally blind to anything that upsets their world view. I see it at a town level, state level, national level. I used to think they were just ignorant of the data but all efforts to inform are met with impenetrable resistance. As if they’re proud of their ignorance yet lack any justification for remaining ignorant.

Just last night on a local level we had a hundred people in to discuss relocation or renovation of a building. It was all emotion and suddenly nobody cared about ADA compliance, safety regs, access or cost and the people wanted to prop up a dead building for several millions more than build a new building. Immediately following the panel everyone in attendance complained about the cost of what they all wanted having known the cost.

Everybody is a @#$%ing moron and I resent having to live among and have my existence influenced by them.

    • In my relatively short time on this earth I’ve realized that fewer and fewer people like to live in reality. They delude themselves through willful ignorance and when they are faced with the consequences of reality, they complain about it as if they themselves weren’t to blame.

    • Shire-man and CRF,

You are both spot-on. Far too many people allow their emotions to rule their lives … eventually to their detriment.

  9. ILL TAKE A BATTLEFIELD OVER A SLAUGHTERHOUSE! And not likely considering the classes we all have to go through in order to conceal carry which thoroughly outlines the world of s**t we will be in if we ever do have to use our weapons.

  10. I think I’m going to start up a company making t-shirts that say ‘Gun Free Zone’ and sell them to idiots like this guy so they’ll have their own little mobile safe space.

    • If you say it’s made from sustainable cotton people will be all over it. You won’t even have to explain what sustainable cotton is because no one is going to ask.

Buzz words – because initiating a feel good dopamine rush is always better than saying something meaningful.

  11. Reading the comments at the Rawstory website is a compilation of antigun crazythink. Wow, just… Wow.

  12. So, has this been a problem in any of the other states that allow campus carry? Have all their public universities crumbled under the weight of a handful of students legally carrying weapons for self-defense? What’s that? That hasn’t happened at all, anywhere, ever? Oh, well, then, maybe some of these crybabies might consider shutting the F up.

  13. I’m just sitting back watching this whole CC on campus law play out in Texas with much humor and popcorn. Especially all the liberal professors and students at University of Texas. Most of these people probably saw Austin as this little insulated blue dot in a sea of red where they coalesce with other like minded liberal minds…. All the while forgetting that they live in mother f@*#ing TEXAS! And then they are shocked, SHOCKED I TELL YOU, that TEXAS would pass such a law?!?!?

Such a delicious set of events.

  14. *sigh* I’ll say it again and again ’til I’m blue in the face. If Texas campus carry is such an apocalyptic affair, why have the seven other states that legalized it not suffered a single incident at the hands of a carrying student? People who invest time and money in shooting and obtain a CCW don’t wake up one morning and decide to commit murder. Said people are guided by logic and reason, the antithesis of emotionally unstable prog-think and projection. I used to tell people “use that brain between your ears,” when I thought they were just being dumb on purpose, but reading five years worth of anti-gun lunacy in depth has taught me more about persistent denial of reality and human nature than any psychology class.

    • … reading five years worth of anti-gun lunacy in depth has taught me more about persistent denial of reality and human nature than any psychology class.

      A profound truth.

You sir or ma’am win the intertubez this morning.

  15. Contemplation and deliberation are occurring in classrooms? Where? Certainly not at the undergraduate level.

  16. I find that institutions of higher learning that are suppose to be open and afford the ability to explore new ideas are the most closed minded places except when it involves the ideas put forth by the collective liberal agenda.

Turn campus carry into a discussion. Allow students to discuss, debate and write about the subject. No minds need to be changed, but civil discourse even with civil disagreement would go a long way versus the closed minded statements of this man. What is the worst thing that can happen from that type discussion? Understanding of the concerns of the other side of argument? The finding that the other side may not be your enemy? That because someone carries a gun does not mean that person is idiot? That maybe the anti-gun crowd could be wrong?

Oh the possibilities if people would simply talk to each other face-to-face versus screaming over each other on Twitter and Facebook — blows the mind!

I have a dream, that the anti-gun crowd instead of writing articles where they can have a one sided opinion of which nobody is allowed to disagree, would actual do what they preach and have an open discourse where each side is given equal time to present their view. Will never happen, but I can dream.

I am being asked to go recruit new employees from college campuses again this year and dread this assignment because of the many echo chamber, closed minded, social justice activist I will need to deal with during my interviews. Some of whom simply come to the interview to lecture to me versus trying to obtain a job — ugh!

    • “many echo chamber, closed minded, social justice activist I will need to deal with during my interviews. Some of whom simply come to the interview to lecture to me versus trying to obtain a job”

Such is the tide of idiocy the American working world will suffer for the foreseeable future. As a fiscally conservative millennial and general old soul, I feel sorry for you guys in your late 30’s and 40’s because of the crap you’re already suffering through. Could you imagine if the leader of the Mizzou protests pitched those fits at a real job? Demanding that his boss resign because some employees made fun of him? I hope the men and women running everything from small businesses to Fortune 500’s have the fortitude to keep that crap out of the office and fire anyone who stirs it up, but HR is doing a stellar job as a universal womb for the SJW mentality. Someone else put it best a while back, graduating from an American college in the 1990’s really was like the last chopper out of Saigon.

  17. “they’ve also decided that the classroom is a potential battlefield instead of a place for contemplation and deliberation.”

Better a potential battlefield than a potential abattoir.

See, I made a post without commenting on the guy’s ridiculous facial hair.

    oops.

  18. OMG!
Only the people with Brains” are the Anti-Gunners and their are being drained away from the college
    campuses.
Only the Intellectually Elites are Anti-Gunners and this will create an Intellectual Vacuum which
can’t possibly be filed with professors who are for the God-given right to self-defense and popular sovereignty.

Texas does not fear a brain drain.
Consider this as a cleansing from the Cultural Marxist and the Left.

I remember attending college many years ago and was infuriated when a
college professor would have the gaul to stand up in front of class and
declare themselves “God in this classroom”.
I guess this is kinda poetic that a so-called God in the classroom
feels his divinity is challenged by a few guns.

The gun is not actually the threat to the professor for it is really only a symbol
of the challenge to their so-called intellectual supremacy.

Many school professors have such a condescending and patronizing attitude towards their
students that this is kinda of vindication for me.

The people of the state of Texas actually came together and said that they were actually smarter than
the professors in determining that if a student was safe enough to carry a concealed firearm on
any street in Texas then that student was safe enough to carry a firearm in any college classroom
    in Texas.
And if that student had the right to protect themselves on any street in Texas then that
student had the right to defend themselves in any college classroom in Texas.

    Hooray for Texas!

  19. I’m pretty sure the brain drain at colleges occurred years ago. Aside from a few intrepid souls, all that’s left are American hating, pinko professors and bleating, ignorant kids. It was bad 15 years ago when I went, but it’s so much worse now.

I had a college professor once admit to me, “I only became a professor because I never wanted to leave college.” Sadly, that’s all the majority of educators at colleges are – stupid kids who never wanted to grow up and enter the real world.

  20. Again, they immediately assume people over 21 at the university level are irresponsible explosions ready to happen. The usual nonsense. We should be promoting responsibility and encouraging the expansion of it – not restricting people. I reject the notion that Americans cannot be responsible people for their own actions.

  21. Some brains really need to be drained.

A septic system needs to be pumped out every few years. So does UT.

  22. Well, you certainly wouldn’t want the regular classroom brawls, currently conducted with knives, stones, and sticks, to escalate to gun battles, right?

Wait, we don’t have routine bloodshed in the classroom with primitive or improvised weapons? So why should that magically change because some students have guns?

I also couldn’t help but notice they don’t seem too concerned about losing out on the intellectual contributions of gun owners who don’t feel welcome where they are routinely demonized.

  23. Good riddance to everyone of these “so-called” university brains. That swamp needed to be drained ages ago. AFT!
