Stage set for historic 2016 showdown over guns – And according to MSNBC, it’s all the NRA’s fault. “The group’s message used to effectively be, ‘Play ball with us and we’ll leave you alone.’ That’s transformed into, ‘We’re coming after you, whether you try to work with us or not.’ With incentives like these, Clinton has made the calculus that she might as well speak her mind and try to prevent some gun violence, since condemnations from the right are inevitable either way.” Speaking of things the NRA gets blamed for . . .
Is America finally ready for smart guns? – An evergreen article for any MSM outlet with a little space to fill. Oh, and here’s a question: has anyone ever parlayed a famous family name into more free media exposure — pushing a product that almost no one wants to buy — than Jonathan Mossberg?
Ran into these folks at the NRA convention this weekend. If you’re handicapped or just have trouble racking a heavy slide, it seems to work well.
States With More Gun Owners Also Have Higher Suicide Rates, Study Finds – Correlation does not equal causation. Unless it does. Like this: “Our study adds to the consistent finding that among both males and females, increased prevalence of firearms is clearly associated with an increase in the firearm-specific suicide rate.”
A Word To Hunters Who Think Their Guns Are Safe: Australia – NRA to Fudds: wake the hell up.
4 Gun Safety Initiatives to Watch in Election 2016 – As you’d expect, Mother Jones is on board with the ‘gun safety’ euphemism thing. “Despite the long-time influence of the National Rifle Association and other pro-gun lobbyists in the nation’s statehouses, background checks are supported by most Americans, including gun owners. That may be why a NRA spokesperson told the Olympian just ahead of the November 2014 vote that the NRA was “very concerned” about the potential for gun safety advocates to pass additional ballot initiatives across the country.”
When you’re just too lazy (or drunk) to get up and pass the bowl around the room.
Mohali: Cop dies after bullet fired from rifle ‘accidentally’ – “A 42-year-old Punjab police constable, who was deployed in Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) office in Sector 28, was killed after a bullet was fired from his service rifle by accident while cleaning and hit his abdomen on Sunday.”
How Donald Trump’s Views on Guns Shifted Over Time – Yes, well, there is that . . .

China. Not entirely gun free, then.
“increased prevalence of firearms is clearly associated with an increase in the firearm-specific suicide rate”
I also note that the prevalence of caged lions is clearly associated with the lion-specific suicide rate.
Can I have my CDC grant now?
Yeah, Japan has shown very well it’s trivial to change the preferred method of suicide (they started fining the relatives of people who kill themselves by train, as stopping the train long enough to clean up and investigate everything is a costly procedure even before you add the economic hindrance the train stopping is. This caused suicide by train to stop very quickly), but stopping it is much harder.
Don’t forget South Korea where they drink pesticide, or Russia where I don’t even want to know what those crazy commies do.
In England, they use a bottle of Tylenol and a bottle of booze, inducing liver failure.
I’ve had two friends who offed themselves. One jumped off the roof of the dorm in college, and the other hung himself with a wire. I did everything I could to help the second guy, but to no avail.
Suicide will find a way.
I thought it was well known that the Ruskies drink themselves to death. Male life expectancy averages 63.4.
“Cathy was 11 when she pulled the plug on 26 reds and a bottle of wine, Mary took a dive from motel roof, Bobby hung himself from a cell in the tombs, Judy jumped in front of a subway train and Eddie got slit in the jugular vein… those were people who died…”
Nope, sorry, you published your findings before getting your grant and spending a year doing research (visiting zoos, etc.).
You have to leave a respectable amount of time so you can pretend you actually did something.
“Suicide by lion” seems particularly inefficient compared to “by cop”. Certainly has not solved the Clinton problem (“by lyin”).
Of course it’s the NRA’s fault. When Proglodytes attack you, you’re supposed to barely defend yourself, and certainly not counter-attack.
This has been the approach of the GOPe for years. Be nice, compromise, concede.
Welcome to the era of Trump. Whether you like him or not, he is an amazing and instinctive counter-puncher, and he’s getting results. The best defense…
They’re YUUUUGE results! The best results ever.
It’s going to to be amazing. You’re going to love it. Beautiful.
In what way has Hillary Clinton been willing to work with the NRA? In the sense of “pretend I’m not mugging you and I’ll let you keep one credit card?”
“Our study adds to the consistent finding that among both males and females, increased prevalence of firearms is clearly associated with an increase in the firearm-specific suicide rate.” – Another surprising find was that people who live in the San Francisco bay area are 10,000 times more likely to commit suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge than people living in Maine.
The death rate from commercial crab fishing is 100x higher in Alaska than South Dakota.
“States With More Gun Owners Also Have Higher Suicide Rates, Study Finds…”
I’m really having a difficult time wrapping my head around *why* Progressives think this is a problem.
1 – Progressives are (supposed to be) all about ‘The Right to Die’.
Well, let ’em die, then!
2 – It’s a stark fact that the older you get, the more it costs to treat you medically. If that is true, you offing yourself save a *lot* of money that can be used to treat the younger folks.
*Again*, let ’em die, then!
Sheesh…
To Progressives, your life belongs to the state, and suicide is “Willful destruction of state property”,
I don’t like wearing rings at all . The golden band I got is as far as I will go
The initiative process is Seattle’s shadow legislature. Anything that can’t through Olympia can be forced through later as ballot measures. I wonder if someone would consider suing to invalidate an initiative system as unconstitutional because it fails to guarantee a republican form of government, as specified in Section IV.
Well, they do have a point. The NRA has attacked all democrats regardless of their stance on gun control to the point where its practically the democrat litmus test.
Which really sucks for us since it seems like the country is turning blue. If gun rights are something that is only going to be associated with republicans then we are pretty screwed.
You wildly incorrect. The NRA has not and does not attack all demtards. AND the country is NOT turning blue (ignoring the reality of the RED dem marxists in the media’s rewrite of the color wheel).
I am confused who is coming after whom … millions of peaceful, responsible gun owning citizens who never shot anyone, and hope they will never have to, or a govt that keeps looking for ways to eliminate these people’s guns, to no good end.
Assault weapon ban did no good, but we need it back. Turn in yr guns legislation, in dark of night, in NY, Connecticut, and elsewhwere. Can’t get a law passed, but got a phone and a pen. There’s constitutional limitations, and Supreme Court decisions, but those are wrong n we need justices who will decide differently. It’s only the bitter clingers who object, so who cares.
Yeah, that’s building bridges. Who is coming for who here, really?
The “No guns for you!” crowd is just annoyed that even the NRA is finally on to their schtick. It used to be that the banners could come on with a P R push. Then, in exchange for some cosmetic adjustments, the N R A would “play ball” and the banners would get what they wanted in the first place, now able to say it has the N R A’s blessing. Then they’d propose the next incremental erosion. Wash, rinse, repeat.
So, here’s the thing. How about the people who say tbey want to do something about “gun deaths” try “playing ball” with a membership organization that has run the premiere gun safety program in the country for decades. It’s “reduce violence” by taking tools away from people who’ve done nothung. You wanna reduce accidental deaths, how about a safety program? It’s almost like reducing harm is a pretense, not the goal.
Maybe start by focusing on bad actors. Maybe demonstrate good faith by saying any one time that they recognize peaceful, responsible citizens’ natural, civil, and constitutionally codified right to personal arms. Maybe play ball a little, if that’s what you want the other guys to do.
While they are at it, maybe recognize their consituency’s preferences, as the N R A finally has. I realize it’s bothersome that the anti’s can’t fire the citizenry, but there you have it. Until they can pull that off, they’re gonna keep having their better ideas stymied by inconvenient proles who think differently.
They’re really just P-O-ed that the N R A is finally on to their game. And stymied that even Bloomie’s billions aren’t enough to bribe an organization with millions of dues-paying members.
So, MSNBC can keep pushing agitprop from the dozens-strong patches of Astroturf their common patrons can buy.
“Our study adds to the consistent finding that among both males and females, increased prevalence of firearms is clearly associated with an increase in the firearm-specific suicide rate.”
Okay, what about general suicide rates in places such as gun free Japan?
Love the Fudd banned guns photo.
Fudds think they are safe and vote for reasonable and sensible Australian style gun control. LOL.
“The group’s message used to effectively be, ‘Play ball with us and we’ll leave you alone.’ That’s transformed into, ‘We’re coming after you, whether you try to work with us or not.”
Never could’ve seen that coming…
Totally out of left field. Who could’ve guessed it?
The NRA plays hardball because in the past, when it compromised, it only led to more attempts at gun control legislation after a few years.
And, for at least the past decade, every concentrated move toward gun-control has resulted in an exponential expansion of NRA membership and influence. The first time I saw this happen I couldn’t register to join the NRA because the phone banks were so overloaded with people calling to join. The NRA promptly fixed that problem.
Please stop calling those nanny-state accoutrements to regular guns “smart.” They’re anything but.
Anything that impedes proper function of a complex mechanical device is not “smart,” it is a hindrance, and a dangerous one at that.
