The 1994 Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act mandates background checks on all new gun purchases from federal firearms licensees. The video celebrating this milestone in civilian disarmament is filled with half-truths.. The largest misdirection: the implication that the two million sales halted by NICS checks stopped bad guys from getting a gun and/or committing a crime. First of all, that stat’s up a startling – not to say incredible – 500k from President Obama’s 2013 claim. Second, it avoids the real question: how many successful prosecutions were made under the bill’s provisions? That same link from the Washington Post reveals that “out of the original 73,000 denials [in 2010], there emerge just 13 guilty pleas.” That’s 13 guilty pleas—not successful prosecutions—out of millions of checks. In short, the FBI background check system is a complete farce. Security theater at its worst. And the antis want to expand it. I wonder why that is?
Here’s the real question:how many law abiding Americans have had their RKBA denied wrongfully due to system errors?
If a computer processing error resulting in 100,000 people being wrongfully denied the right to vote, the situation wouldn’t be permitted to stand.Yet it’s ok with guns, for some reason.
(e-spits into the dirt).
From a Dept of Justice report several years ago, approximately 93% of initially-failed NICS checks are because of an error in the system: same or similar name, bad data, etc.

Judging by the article that number is about 2 million citizens denied their Constitutional rights. So looks like the system is working as intended.
How many of those were from minor traffic warrants….im betting a pretty large majority are every day guys going to buy a gun not knowing they forgot to pay a ticket a couple months back since most felons arent going to fill out a form and realisticly expect to walk out with a firearm
Would that really prevent you from being able to purchase a gun? Seems kinda dumb.
If a warrant is issued for your arrest it’s kinda a big deal to most of us…
11.d. Are you a fugitive from justice?
I don’t see where it is illegal for a person to fill out the paperwork thinking they were legally purchasing a firearm, only to be told otherwise. No transaction, no crime.
Falsifying paperwork may be a different story.
I was under the impression that the reason the NICS checks were “legally” not an infringement is because they do not actually apply to the citizen (purchaser). A person can buy from a private individual without such checks. That the government requires the FFL to comply with such a check as part of their licensing agreement is part of their regulations, not a burden on the citizen in actuality. A fine line to be sure, and once the people have gotten inured to the checks, they seek to cross that line and infringe the buyers themselves.
Yeah, and Colorado crossed that line this year by mandating background checks on all transfers. The camel’s nose is in the tent…
California has been mandating universal checks for a long long time. on know when that started–just that it was more than ten years ago.
It’s not the filling out the paperwork itself, but lying on because you know you won’t get a gun otherwise. Say you’re filling it out and you’ve been dishonorably discharged; if you mark “yes”, that’s fine legally, but you won’t get the gun. If you mark “no” then you’ve committed a felony.
Maybe they should start small, like with a background check on all the Mayors Against Guns mayors.
ah, but preventing politicians from being in office if they’ve committed crimes would leave us with… well, no one probably.
Cops have to undergo background checks and polygraphs in most states; why them but not those who are elected to represent us?
And then we also have this:

Considering the source, this is amazing.
An alleged 6 million guns a year without a Brady Check? And still only 30,000 deaths a year. Less if you don’t count suicides.
Add the number of guns….. divide by….. carry the two…. OMG! 1 in 5,000 sales might be to someone who intends to do harm.to themselves or another.
You actually have a better chance of being involved in a fatal slip and fall accident in the bath or shower. (http://www.funny2.com/odds.htm) But we shouldn’t mention that little tidbit because someone would feel compelled to mention that showers were never meant as weapons. Or they might get the idea that showers should get a bit more regulation than they have now.
That makes it even more impressive…
Items NOT meant to kill (quite the opposite, hopefully) are more frequently fatal than firearms.
I never understood why it was ok for something to kill someone so long as it wasn’t designed to do so…dead is dead isn’t it?
anti’s = fabricators/ liars= liberals= fabricators/liars= democrats=fabricators/liars=MAIG/MDA= fabricators /liars=treasonist= fabricators/liars= Anti’s!Oh look we’ve come full circle!
I had the misfortune of seeing that video run on MSNBC a week or two ago while I was at the gym.
I about put a weight through the goddamn TV. Quicker than trying to get the remote, I figured.
Stupid, evil libturds.
Think that video is scary? Here’s the exact same video but for children. A whole generation of future voters and politicians getting indoctrinated. http://youtu.be/kfO5gYOqNfI
So like, other than stepping on everybody’s rights, what shooting event would that have stopped? By the way that 2 million number is another fabricated LIE by the anti’s .More hogwash, they refuse to go after gangs{cause they are afraid of them}and criminals and violence and they refuse to employ gun owners and experienced gun handlers to help solve gun issue’s Organizations that could help them get chastised,So welcome to the WAR.ANTI’S ARE GOING TO BE BLOCKED EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. Keep sprewing your condescending lies, see what happens.
