“The Washington Metropolitan Police Department is investigating whether any city laws were violated when NBC’s David Gregory displayed what appeared to be a 30-round gun magazine on NBC’s Meet the Press’ on Sunday,” POLITICO reports. In fact, the ammunition magazine was, by Gregory’s own assertion to a national TV audience, an illegal-in-D.C. 30-round AR-15 mag. NBC is staying shtum but you can bet the anti-gun network’s lawyers and fixers have spent a good part of their yuletide doing damage control on Gregory’s behalf. Caught red-handed and hoisted by his own petard? We can only hope. From CNN:
Washington Metropolitan Police Department is investigating whether NBC’s David Gregory violated D.C. gun laws when he displayed what he described as a 30 round magazine as part of an interview during Sunday’s “Meet the Press.”
“So here’s a magazine for ammunition that carries 30 bullets. Now isn’t it possible that if we got rid of these, if we replaced them and said well, you can only have a magazine that carries five bullets or ten bullets, isn’t it just possible that we could reduce the carnage in a situation like Newtown?” show moderator Gregory asked Wayne LaPierre, the executive vice president of the National Rifle Association.
It’s not known whether the magazine Gregory had in his hand was authentic or a prop. D.C. police spokeswoman Gwen Crump told CNN the department is investigating the matter and would have no further comment at this time.
I see this going either one of two ways.
The “business as usual” option is that NBC claims the magazine was a deactivated prop, fails to produce the item, and/or the D.C. police drop the case since the person breaking the law is a rich white guy.
The “headline grabbing” option is that the D.C. district attorney puts the screws to David Gregory, going after him at full speed to show that they’re trying to “crack down on guns” in the wake of recent events. David gets off pleading to a lesser crime, or simply pays the $1,000 fine with the change he found in his tuxedo.
His lawyers will say that it was a dummy mag for demo purposes only.
No doubt there will be some loophole or cut tape but he still has to deal with it until then.
Well even if he simply pays the fine or something he should loose his job. That would be the best option. Not sure either will happen but one can only hope!
No they won’t. What they’ll say about it is nothing. Prove it was a banned magazine. Good luck pulling that off without the magazine as an exhibit.
Oh, this would be too rich. I feel an evil Cartman laugh coming on.
Hillarious!
Maybe when he realizes that the laws they want make good guys in to bad guys he will STFU!
Anyone know where the pics we get of DiFi are taken? You know, the ones with all the scary guns. Im thinking the same needs to happen with her.
I expect this to go no where, unless they want to go after the company or person that supplied the mag…..no way the great liberal agenda allows one of their mouthpieces to go down..
The lawyers may say it was a dummy mag – but it’s still scary! I mean, come on, a 30-rd mag? I was frightened out of my wits! There’s no telling what could have happened – that thing could have gone off and killed someone! I just hope impressionable kids didn’t see it!
DC PD go for the throat, he admitted and national TV that it was indeed a real 30 rd. AR-15 magazine. I really feel all these laws are BS but he wants to put all of us lawful gun owners in jail for exercising are 2A rights, well arrest and charge him first.
Why would anybody NEED to hold up a high-speed 30-round clip on national television, except to mow down hundreds of people?
Haha! That line needs to be repeated out to everyone!
Don’t forget where Mr Gregory has his kids in school–guarded by 11 armed officers:

“Diff’rent strokes…”
I watched the whole interview twice, trying to see if I could get a glimpse of a follower or pin to see if it was a live mag, but was unable to see anything either way.
I’m betting this will go away quietly.
Of course it will go away. After all, some animals are more equal than others.
This isn’t funny. I don’t feel like celebrating the irony because it is absolutely ridiculous that that mag is illegal ANYWHERE. Not to mention that, like usual, a liberal PD is more concerned with the letter of the law than the spirit of the law. I can no sooner celebrate DC’s draconian gun laws than I can celebrate a potential AWB II.
I’m not celebrating the law; I’m celebrating and idiot getting hoist by his own petard. Entirely different.
This could turn into “Meat The Press” as they clip his wings and send him back into magazine reporting…
Ha!
I don’t think it will progress this far because of the slick, overpaid lawyers on retainer, but to the prosecution I am willing to testify as to what I saw. It is my civic duty to testify and put his law breaking butt in jail. Just waiting for the prosecutors phone call!!
If he’s convicted, won’t he be a prohibited person? The offense carries the possibility of a year in prison.
NBCs attorneys will cut a deal with the Washington DA .30 days community service in exchange for a plea bargain.
@ Hal
It is funny because it shows just how silly some of theses “laws” are. I don’t wish the man jail time or a $10,000 fine just because he is on the opposite side of the fence, but would any of us receive a free pass for tripping up on a silly little known law?
Oh I know trust me I get it. It just makes me sad that our laws have become so silly, trivial punitive and vindictive. Over half our country is so stupid that they don’t even realize that they’re wrapped around the axle about stupid sh1t instead of looking at reality. They just keep demanding more silliness. It’s like they’re addicted to malam prohibitum thinking.
I am a big fan of togetherness but I am starting to grow weary of my own people. It’s getting to the point where half our country could go fvck themselves and move to a utopian European paradise and I just. Wouldn’t. Care. Frankly, we might even be better off.
How does one combat such a reckless collective of fools?

I’m certain there is an “entertainment industry” exemption and NBC news would qualify — they must be entertainment because it certainly isn’t news.
Well it would be great if the law was applied to this matter and NBC’s David Gregory was fined or given jail time for breaking the law it is not going to happen.
TV Commentators and Talk Show hosts are given the same misplaced royal treatment as those people called actors and actresses. If it were everyday citizens like myself the book would be thrown at them.
This I call poetic justice. He or people like him helped make this illegal, so it’s only befitting they do the time. I bet he will change his mind about how stupid these laws are if he spends a year in prison and gets a felony on his record for exercising his 2nd amendment right.
“or the D.C. police drop the case since the person breaking the law is a rich white guy”
— I think America (depending where you are) is beyond forgiving the white guy bit. IMO, the DC police are more likely to simply protect a rich politically well-connected person who is on their side of the political and cultural war.
The NYC police arrested (and humiliated with their public perp walk) the super-rich white French Jewish male politician (IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn) based on the claims of a hotel maid who was a black sub-Sahara immigrant Muslim woman that he forced her to have orraaalll six. She had previously lied to immigrations and was soon after recorded as being after DSK’s money. Later on, the woman kept changing her story again and again.
Make my day if he has to pay $1000 fine for this.
Does anyone have his address and personal info to put on a map? Id feel a lot safer knowing how far away he is from me
A felony on nation wide TV and nothing will happen. Our government at work.
Misdemeanor, less than 1 year in jail. Even that wouldn’t likely apply for a single magazine under arguably mitigation circumstances: not used in the commission of another crime, for instance.
Which part of POSSESSION don’t you understand? An illegal is and illegal PERIOD. Having and unregistered machine is a crime PERIOD
It wasn’t a dummy mag, it was a dummy with a mag.
Thank god he wasn’t doing an exposee on circumcision.
I don’t want to see it but I wish he would.
National Bris Corporation?
Colbert went there. He was mocking Mormons who “convert” Jews post-mortem to Mormonism by “converting” a dead Mormon to Judaism using a hot dog (kosher no doubt) and a cigar cutter…
This just goes to show that laws don’t stop any crime. If he could get a hold of an “illegal” magazine, why the hell does he think that a criminal cant. This is great anecdotal evidence to use against antis that think laws prevent crime.
wow…of course this will go away without another word. I am finding myself getting more and more pissed at the double standard of the left. Just leave our community alone!!!!!!
What about all those photo ops with Feinstein holding “assault weapons”…is she doing that in DC?
Who let you speak, prole? She is part of the intellectually and morally superior aristicracy and is not subject to earthly laws.
For what it’s worth those pictures are taken on federal property not DC. City laws don’t apply.
Hinshelworld, isnt it illegal for non law enforcement and military personel to carry in government buildings? I know here in Tennessee it is.
I seriously believe that if these politicians were to start getting investigated for breaking their own laws, the inconvinience would make them STFU.
Someone needs to attend a Feinstein ban-fest (press conference) and call the police on her from the crowd and be sure to say “Omg there’s a woman in ______ room at the ____ building waiving assault rifles around! She’s pointing them at people in the room! Come quick, I think she’s crazy!”
Have her own speech raided by a SWAT team.
The only thing that makes that magazine a dummy mag is the guy holding it. The man is violating a ban yet he doesn’t understand why the ban doesn’t work.
Even better than fining or jailing him… have him go on national tv and say… why yes these 30rd magazines aren’t bad at all its only when a bad person gets ahold of one and does something bad with it.
It’s amazingly funny how the gun-control crowd is arguing that this guy should be exempt from the law.
This guy proved that an existing ban is ineffective and by doing so the anti-gun people are falling over themselves and showing their true hypocrisy. They show their true ignorance.
All,
I would like to know about the “chain of possession” of the magazine in question. Who else in the DC city limit touched the magazine? Are those “invisible” folks also the subject of investigation? My guess is this goes nowhere, nothing happens to Mr. Gregory, and DC laws remain unchanged. And in the process, a whole lot of scarce police resources which could have been used for real crimes with real victims gets wasted.
On the flip side, as reported by Emily Miller of The Washington Times, DC just passed a statute which decriminalizes unknowing violation of the district’s firearms laws. Here’s the link to Ms. Miller’s blog page:
