Without delay, here’s Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s reaction to the ruling . . .
On Tuesday, Emanuel thanked the judge for giving the city more time to develop, what he hopes will be some of the “strictest regulations” in the nation on where gun shops can be located. But he once again refused to identify those areas.
“I have a different view as it relates to the court and their view on guns and access. But I decided to ask for that six months because I didn’t want to leave the decision about Chicago’s public safety to the courts,” he said.
“We’re going to take it in our own hands, chart our own course…in a way that does not undermine what our community groups, our Police Department and our after-school programs are trying to do to protect our city, our children and our neighborhoods. We’ll do it in a way that…lives within the straitjacket the court put us in, but does not undermine what…all of us are trying to do day-in and day-out.”

More likely they wait 170 days, enact a law that is in blatant violation, and drag the whole process out another 6 months while it is litigated. And still no gun stores inside Chicago.
Any LGS with any sense would be applying for business permits across the street from the Chicago city line, all the way around the city, and offering FREE CCW classes with purchase.

They will probably try to emulate DC. I read in Emily Miller’s series on legally buying a gun in DC that, because of the tight zoning restrictions, the only FFL in the district has to operate out of a small office in the same municipal building that houses DC police headquarters. They include things like schools, day cares, churches etc so that there is pretty much no place for them to open a business.
Yes, this. They’ll get around the ruling by coming up with reasonable sounding rules that basically make it impossible to open a shop in Chicago to make them go back to court and fight it all over again, but with a more difficult case to prove.
Seems like across the street from a police station would be a fantastic place for a gun shop. I wouldn’t mind a store by every station in the City, the station in my hood is in walking distance.

Honest regulations might actually do some good. Regulation is an Orwellian euphemism for what he really wants to do: restrict other people’s freedom. When people like Rahmhole feel like they’re being put in a restrictive straitjacket — no, let’s use their terminology and say they’re merely being regulated — that’s a good thing for the rest of us.
There is no such thing as “honest regulations”. All government regulation of private matters is illegitimate.

This judge is a good friend of mine and these are his decisions. Clearly he doesn’t have the same opinion as you, but he’s a judge for a reason.
Rahm needs time to have one of his big donors line up the lease on the locations for the only FFL’s in the city so they can kick $$$ back to him. Follow the money.

He’s dancing on the rim of the crapper, once law abiding gun owners hit the streets – and do that good citizen duty of carrying – Rahm’s legacy, reputation, and clout go right down the toilet. All it will take is the citizens themselves doing what crooked politics couldn’t: defend themselves. The deterrent factor alone, man.
If I owned a shop that was outside the Chicago city limits, I would set up a shuttle system so law abiding Chicago residents could actually shop for firearms. I’d register it as a tour bus but give out tickets for free. At least until they changed the laws to make that illegal.
Chicago like NYC is full of corruption. Like the safe act last week a judge struck down the 7 limit part of the Safe Act. Its gonna take SCOTUS, to trash most of the Safe Act to set Gun Control back 50 years, cause at the state level usually judges are appointed by the dems. This not really surprising.
And all the gun shop owners in a 150 mile radius of Chicago cried out “Sweet! More sales to come to our stores.”

They will pass an ordinance disallowing any gun store within a mile of a school, hospital, place of worship, public transit stop or residential building. That should effectively eliminate the entire city. “there, they can build one within the approved ones.”
I’m going to toss out a theory. The gun control types are scared to death of the 7th Circuit. I think they pushed Rahm to not appeal to avoid creating any more bad precedent. And I think they may also have leaned on him to avoid creating blatantly over the top restrictions on gun shops that anyone with half a brain could see are a naked attempt to discourage gun ownership. These regulations will be more subtle.

By the time you look at the overlapping concentric rings of zones where guns are prohibited, there is probably nowhere in the city where a shop could open.
The extension provides the time to enact an “impossible” process to open up in Chi town. Ex. $50,000 permit, $5000 processing fee,
Zoning fees, County fees, City fees, mandatory $5,000,000 worth of insurance. Than the building inspectors, fire Marshall’s get involved, than police require video and very expensive security, etc, et al…… And Still no evil black rifles!!!! Quite the incentive.
In other words Chicago’s mayor needs time to purchase the property in the only locations where the city will allow gun shops … as well as time to solicit bribes from companies for permission to build gun shops on his newly acquired properties.
