President Obama shooting ported shotgun (courtesy telegraph.co.uk)

Statement by the President [via whitehouse.gov]

One year ago, our dedicated military and civilian personnel at the Washington Navy Yard were targeted in an unspeakable act of violence that took the lives of 12 American patriots. As we remember men and women taken from us so senselessly, we keep close their family and friends, stand with the survivors who continue to heal and pay tribute to the first responders who acted with skill and bravery. At the same time, we continue to improve security at our country’s bases and installations to protect our military and civilian personnel who help keep us safe. One year ago, 12 Americans went to work to protect and strengthen the country they loved. Today, we must do the same – rejecting atrocities like these as the new normal and renewing our call for common-sense reforms that respect our traditions while reducing the gun violence that shatters too many American families every day.

  1. Did someone forget to tell the occupier of the White House that said sick individual purchased their firearms legally with a background check.. And it was a shotgun no less. Epic Face Palm!

    • The guy’s a liberal cerebral square. He overthinks everything and looses sight of what little functional “common sense” he ever had. He lives and breathes his own fantasies and loves to talk to all his subjects about his “intellectual” epiphanies and decisions. He’s so caught up in the act and the drama, doesn’t even know how amaturish he is, and the pandering go-go Obama media just eggs him on.

    • Also the only reason he wasn’t prohibited from buying a gun was because the paperwork declaring him thus got lost. Guns don’t kill people, clerical errors kill people.

      • Despite believing Leprechauns or something were out to get him, they still thought his mind was sound enough to have a high-security clearance… That’s what gets me. “Him and people like him are too crazy to own guns”, they posthumously demand, but not too crazy to work for the government.

  2. When I see that lying sack of excrement at a 3-gun match, then I’ll believe his “respect our traditions” remarks.

  3. So is Obama’s buddy and hand picked AG Eric Holder going to recommend harsh sentencing and aggressive charging of felons found in possession of a firearm? That would be a common sense reversal of his current advise to go easy on felons, especially if it means maintaining a preferred skin color ratio.

  4. Thank you, Mr Obama, for breathing new life into what was a dead issue for your party. I look forward to Democrat candidates hopefully embracing your message and the subsequent carnage at the polls it will cause for your side. I look forward to the resulting Republican majorities in both the Senate and the House.

You see, Mr Obama, running on a platform that Americans enjoy too many of their God-given rights, and that the Constitution does too much to safeguard such rights, will not win elections in this country. I, and millions like me, am sick and tired of hearing the same old lies, distortions and false statistics that are constantly being used in an attempt to strip honest, law-abiding Americans of their right to keep and bear arms. I urge you, with all due respect, sir, to take your “message” and cram it in the Presidential Place Where The Sun Doesn’t Shine.

Now take your mom jeans and your prissy attitude and go play some golf or something.

    • Gun control is a loser issue that any Dem with half a brain and one foot in reality knows it.

I hope he keeps beating this drum until Nov.

    • I sort of figured Obozo’s comments would really help the Donkeycraps in the next election. Keep on truck’in Obozo!

  5. Gun sales are down. Prices are too. So the President is doing his best to jawbone that part of the economy back up.

    • I never for one moment took prices and supply for granted. Not now or down the road.,if there is any road left. Every pay, no matter how small, something go’s torwards ammo/parts or gun.

    • Time for another spike in the price of ARs and a colossal ammo shortage for all calibers (beyond the normal .22LR crisis).

    • Yeah, another speach; he’s making another attempt to jump start the economy by motivating more gun and ammo sales and higher prices. That seems his MO across the board with everything.

Wonder what speach he’s gonna give to jump start his rudderless foreign policy and anti-terrorism strategies?

This guy is such a disaster; everytime he opens his mouth he reveals how incompetent and amaturish he and his administration is, and it’s been what, five and a half years now.

  6. I reject the murders at the Navy Yard.

I can think of some ‘common-sense’ reforms that might have helped there, but I doubt they would be the same sort of ideas as the White House is(n’t!) articulating.

    • the guy had SECRET clearance. You are correct, none of the reforms would have stopped them. The background check would have revealed the shooter’s history of violence even without convictions. They gave him clearance anyway.

      • What does having a SECRET clearance have to do with anything? the entire US Air Force maintain SECRET clearances with little or no background investigation. Also there is no requirement to have a clearance to get on to a military installation.

        • Prior to joining the air force will run an FBI level background check on you. It will show expunged and juvenile records. They also do a credit check.

        • The AF doesn’t always have Secret Clearance. Some AFSC’s don’t require Secret Clearances (IE Cooks, personnel, supply (excluding POL)) to name a few.

        • The check is called a NACI. You can do it in ten minutes. You can almost phone it in. It’s relatively worthless. You get a more thorough check to get bonded to work with cash in a bank.

    • The “reform” I would like to see is being able to carry concealed in DC. That, for one, just might have shortened the Navy Yard shooting.

    • The real question is why a military base, of all places, is disarmed.
Didn’t Clinton have something to do with that?

  7. Does anyone know what he’s supposed to be shooting in that image? What’s that blast of gas coming out to the right?

  8. It’s a good thing I keep a bucket close to my puter
I’m surprised ‘he’ didn’t close with a Hail ISIL!

  9. A golf course is a waste if a perfectly good gun range!! He must believe the opposite is true.

Go ahead and try Barry. Your party hasn’t touched the assualt weapons for 20 years you didn’t do anything when your party controlled the house and senate for 2 years because you didn’t want to be a lame duck for the next 6. The Supreme Court is overturning everything at state level. Your own party can’t get background checks through the senate even with the help of a republican. The only success you have had is one executive order in which trust aren’t people, except when they are for the purpose of machine guns, and opened up that can of worms. You better hurry because it doesn’t look like November will be kind.

  10. Is this not the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result? With such a divisive topic that he and his administration have very little grasp of, be it physically or mentally, no less.

What will be the next course of action?
The gun control advocates have already tried demonizing, insulting, and taunting about half of the population residing in the United States.
They have tried their hand at doomspeaking; using made up terms and semantics in an attempt to rationalize their hamfisted laws that would not affect anything but the legality of objects possessed by law-abiding citizens.

People on both sides of the American political spectrum – as well as residents of other countries – are questioning his leadership as of late. This will not help him.

  11. America’s worst president EVER now sabotages his dumbocrat party. The Navy Yard shooting? Really? An approved lunatic who was visited by the POlice? A run of the mill pump shotgun used? Maybe he IS ginning up the economy 🙂

  12. “Common sense” — You keep using that phrase. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Hey Obama, take your own advice and shut the fuck up: “It’s The Law of the Land… Get Over It…”

  13. Maybe I need to do my part for gun control and buy another gun.

(It would bring another gun under my control.)

  14. Indeed. Today, on the anniversary of a day when a man with a valid federal security clearance, who had alerted the police himself to his deteriorating mental state, passed a background check, smuggled a shotgun into a secure gun-free military facility in the middle of a city with some of the most draconian gun control laws, and killed 12 people, it’s an excellent time to reflect on the government’s ability to protect us through additional rules and bureaucracy.

  15. And the violence that was Benghazi? The violence that took Brian Terry’s life via F&F? Any plans to address that?

  16. That’s great news. I’m assuming he’s talking about
    * getting rid of the high age restrictions to buy guns,
    * eliminating all waiting periods,
    * eliminating all the taxes on guns and ammo,
    * implementing federal constitutional carry,
    * eliminating the restrictions on gun at post offices, military bases, etc.,
    * teaching firearms safety, handling, and marksmanship in the schools,
    * ending the war on drugs,
    * ending the nanny state that creates a cyclic system of poverty and hopelessness, and
    * abandoning the pharmacological reaction to kids acting out, which is destroying their brains and causing violence.

Because those are common sense, and they would reduce gun violence.

    • Armed all on duty Navy (or any/all other on duty DOD) uniformed officers? Personnel? Employees? Off duty?

Beheaded the mohamadan that shot up Ft Hood?

Fired Eric Holder? Charged/jailed the POS?

  17. Do you think Obama knows that “reform” means to “make changes in (something, typically a social, political, or economic institution or practice) in order to improve it.” Many times reform in this light means to undo standing government practices such as when Clinton signed welfare reform into law. In this vein, I’m all for reform. It’s definitely time to repeal some gun control laws that make no sense whatsoever.

  18. As a relatively new gun owner, I get a little bit more nervous that I’m going to be missing out on some great toys either due to federal action or just gougers taking prices well beyond my meager means.

    • Listen up Tiny McHugenstein, you’ll be just fine. Since we beat the assholes in 2013, this is a year of deals.

  19. Nothing Obama says is common sense….this man is the furthest thing from common sense…..this is a clueless man who has gone through his terms like a deer caught in the headlights of an onrushing tracker trailer.

  20. It’s so cute how a lot of you guys still believe that there is a difference in the left and right in this country.
And they love this, when you guys get worried about the commie king Obama trying to take your guns, he’s really just distracting you while he takes your wallet so he can go drone strike some poor brown kid.
Really, if they we really so worried about guns, why did they lose so many in bengazi? Fast and the furious guns of Mexico destabilization so “patriots” can go to the borders, hopefully to shoot a brown kid.
40% of the guns sent to Afghanistan unaccounted for. Training camps for moderate rebels in Jordan cross into Iraq and become al queda before strolling into Syria and becoming isis.
Old Berry O doesn’t mind guns, look at the evidence, he gives them away by the thousands. But you still got a little money in your pocket, how can Barry live with himself if he wasn’t getting all of your wages in taxes.
So who wants to go argue with some commie leftists about gay rights?
Accept and live by the non aggression principle, and carry. Call your sheriff, get to know him, find out if he serves the “people” who voted him in, or the incorporated local government. Of he isn’t a constitutional sheriff, chase him out of town.

  21. His comment is nothing but lip-service nothingness to appease the diminishing few who still embrace the failed gun control “common sense” effort.

    • Depending on weather and other factors, yes, even smokeless powder can produce smoke. Still, “less” than black powder. I doubt a photoshop would know to include porting smoke.

  22. Chuckling at the vigorous response because it might be exactly what the White House wants. Going to float an alternative motive for this particular call for gun control:

    distraction.

A domestic political distraction from things like boots on the ground in the Middle East.

With nearly every scandal or breaking of its word the Obama administration has found a way to point and yell squirrel.

On a totally unrelated note, picked up a Remington 783 in .30-06 today. Can’t wait to get it sighted in!

  23. As Presidential proclamations go, this one is more or less the Hallmark greeting card version. You know, when you care enough to spend 2 bucks and lick a stamp.

An anemic announcement noting the one-year anniversary of the Navy Yard shootings, published on Whitehouse.gov, is hardly a call to (or, in this case, from) arms.

If anything, it’s a signal that the Dems are leaving guns alone, at least until after November.

  24. “At the same time, we continue to improve security at our country’s bases and installations to protect our military and civilian personnel who help keep us safe.”

Hmm… I still drive onto a military base every day and I’ve never been searched. Improvements on paper stop nothing.
I just got briefed on the updated, DOD-approved active-shooter procedures. It basically said if you’re not a first responder (security forces) you’re a victim. The SF squadron commander giving the briefing sounded disgusted that he had to read the slides.

  25. What a full blown retard.
He constantly beats a dead horse.
Isnt there something more important for him to do.
Like run a country or something.
Time for him to retire from public life and go organize a ghetto as hes proven to be sooooooooo good at that too already.

    • The US president doesn’t “run the country”. This country runs itself, despite the government influence.
The president is supposed to be a caretaker who ensures the laws are enforced equally and fairly, and vetoes any law that would be unconstitutional. Nothing more.

The “run the country” mentality among the American people is why we have presidents who try to get away with this sort of crap. That, and the mistaken belief that we live in some sort of democracy.

      • Your taking one word too literally.
Would it have been better if I typed.
“Doesn’t he have anything better to do like organize a country”…………………………no one thinks that way.
Most here certainly know we are/were a Republic at one time in a far far different universe. With the current administration it sure isn’t organized that way.

  26. Our Prime Minister “Yankee” John Key is Obummer’s bestest golf buddy. They both have holiday homes nearby in Hawaii. They both fail to grasp the essential qualities of a national leader – the principal of hard work and honesty. John Key has shocking memory lapses, including anything that might embarrass his government (it has been revealed our spy agency has been mass spying on us for 20 years, which he denies), he is always on holiday, and he doesn’t give a rat’s ass about the ordinary citizens and their problems.
But what worries me is that a majority of Americans voted for Obummer with little or no reason. Apart from Republican candidate incompetence, WHY??? A dog or a pig would have been a more intelligent choice. Just proves that the President is only a glove puppet anyway.

  27. Mr. President,

Let me carry my gun at work. I’ll stop the next tragedy.

    Respectfully,
A well trained and qualified service member

  28. I sit here shaking my head side to side in absolute disgust. Why in the hell do we have to fight to keep a right guaranteed by the constitution? I do not see the same battle for any other civil right. Politicians are attempting to deny us a right they swore to defend. Why in the hell do we tolerate this civil rights violation? We need to take control of this out-of-control government.

  29. Dear Barack,

Shut up and go back to the golf course. Leave us alone.

    Sincerely,
    Literally Everyone Ever Times Infinity

    • On your average stateside base only a handfull of security personnel are allowed to carry a gun on base and they gaurd the gates. It’s just as bad as working at a school.

  30. I’ve said this before, I’ll say it again:

Obama trots out the gun control issue whenever he wants the press to start licking his shoes again.

In the last four weeks, his entire supposed aura of competence has disappeared. His administration is sleepwalking through some very high-stakes foreign policy issues, and the national press has increasingly started asking (paraphrased) “Hey, uh, WTF?”

He has no domestic agenda. The economy is still under-employing lots of people. College grads are finding jobs difficult to come by. More and more reports are coming out that the immigration issue no longer favors Obama and the Democrats. The GOP is now trusted on foreign policy and national security by a huge margin.

So what’s an affirmative action POTUS to do?

Start running his mouth about gun control, the one issue where the press drops everything else they’ve been doing and starts helping him tout his twaddle.

The press, if they were even marginally self-aware, should be ashamed of how easily played they are. They’re as stupid as Pavlov’s dog(s).

  31. I believe that he must have seen some 22 mini mags on a shelf somewhere, and decided it was time to pump the price back up.

  32. Permitting legal carry of firearms on military bases by service members and civilian contractors would be a common sense reform that will help reduce gun violence. Think they’ll implement that one?

  33. The vitriol of the comments here regarding Obama’s recent “gun reforms” message is very satisfying. Funny how they didn’t classify the Navy Yard shootings as “workplace violence”, but then Obama/Holder didn’t have to prosecute a confused Muslim…they only had a disturbed dead guy. Had the Navy Yard shooter survived it would have presented them with an interesting conundrum.

Obama is just bringing this up to deflect attention from his multiple failures. His Presidency is in the toilet and his Democratic Socialist Mid Term Election candidates are deserting like rats off a sinking ship (which they helped sink BTW).

If we cant take the Senate from the Democratic Socialists in November and gain in the House, the first thing the new Congress can do is give Obama a budget for Golf because that’s about all he’ll be able to to in his remaining two years.

If Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-South Carolina, the Benghazi Special Committee Chairman gets the whistle blower Sharyl Attkisson, Independent Investigative Reporter, uncovered to testify it might sink Hillary Clinton’s Presidential Bid

    http://video.foxnews.com/v/3786577183001/hillary-allies-involved-in-benghazi-document-removal/#sp=show-clips

then we might actually be able to Elect a President in 2016 who understands the definition of “common sense” and how to apply it.
