Was our $75,000 ‘Libertarian’ sculpture a little too pricey for you? Not to worry. Brownells has you covered this Christmas with their new Modern ARt line, similarly inspired by the best of Art Basel. The sculpture is a very reasonable $1200…or you could pickup a t-shirt for $19.99 and all proceeds go to charity.

GRINNELL, Iowa (December 13, 2019) – Triggered by emerging trends in the art world, Brownells unveiled its own limited-edition Modern ARt line – offering both a sculpture and t-shirts inspired by the sculpture.

The sculpture, titled “The Joke-AR,” is a Brownells AR-15 magazine, hand painted banana yellow, affixed to a white background with a strip of silvery tape.

Limited to only 10 signed and numbered copies, each version of “The Joke-AR” will retail for $1,200 with all proceeds going to support Special Operations Wounded Warriors – a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization dedicated to helping Purple Heart recipients of the US Special Operations community.

Based on the sculpture, the Brownells ARt shirt bears a stylized image of the yellow magazine taped to a wall on the front, and a fruit-inspired Brownells logo on the back.

Printed on white t-shirts made from a blend of 50/25/25 poly/combed ring spun cotton and rayon for comfort and style, the ARt Shirts are available in sizes Small through XXXL, and retail for $19.99.

Both the sculpture “The Joke-AR” and the Brownells ARt Shirts are limited in production and will be available for only  a short time.

  1. So, what happened to the post yesterday about a Christmas gift guide?

The one that claimed Brownell’s had Polymer80 frames for sale under 100 USD, but don’t exist on their website?

    • Many years ago while visiting close family friends who had been recruited to high paying work in Silicon Valley, we toured a big museum of modern art. In SF if I recall correctly. One of the works was a 4 foot by 8 foot sheet of marine grade plywood spray paint pink and purple, clear coated and leaning against a pillar. In a stand beside it was a small sign “Untitled # 3, by Anonymous, $30,000”.

So this sort of silliness is not new, and has suffered from inflation. Clearly a good deal more money, time and effort went into that sheet of plywood and spray paint than did this banana and duct tape.

Which tells me this wackiness has lost ground in brain power and artistic creativity. Not that the bar was set high to begin with, it was not.

On the other hand, I have long liked actress Brooke Shields. She has always shown an excellent attitude, humility and sense of absurdity around her own fame and celebrity/sex symbol status. So her striking a “Vogue”-like pose with a banana taped to her forehead is just a funny little stab on the current internet meme absurdity of all this banana taped to a wall for a shit ton of cash nonsense.

Also appreciate Brownell’s poking fun at it in a gun sort of way, though I’ll not be buying into it myself.

      • There is art and then there is bull shit. And sometimes there is bull shit art.
What grand arrogance to be able to say that you paid $30,000 for a piece of painted plywood. And oh how pitiful are we as to only afford the painted masonite.
My sculpture of “Un-Flusshed Toilet” should bring in millions when I’m finnished.

  2. If Brownells REALLY had a pair they would go across town (Grinnell, Ia) to Grinnell College and hand out the tee shirt along with a discount NRA membership and an AR15 Appleseed weekend.

(Grinnell College is the MOST Libtard “Progressive” institution of indoctrination in the US).

  3. I may duct tape a 5.56 LC case to the local outdoor range’s 100-yd shelter. With their permission, of course.
