common sense gun control is intellectually lazy
Bigstock

He’s right, you know…

A great example is the AR-15. They are remarkably more accurate than any handgun and generally easy to operate, making them excellent in a situation where someone is directly threatening your family and/or property.

However, because there are evil persons out there who abuse this rifle, Washington’s best and brightest currently wish to punish responsible owners rather than focus their full attention on preventing evil persons from getting their hands on such weapons.

Again, “common sense” gun reform appears to be increasingly nonsensical and intellectually lazy in reality.

    • It seems to me to be more like trying to convince an ice cream truck in Nice to not run over people.
      “Intellectually lazy”? This guy is surely a diplomat. I’d call it something closer to; “dumb as a box of rocks”.

      • Regardless of how one says it, stupidity or ignorance is the most charitable interpretation possible.

    • ^^^ This ^^^ Plus, I’d suggest that it isn’t “lazy” at all – it’s part of the marketing effort, designed to advance their end-game: removal of firearms from all non-military and non-police.

    • “It was never about safety only control and sadly not limited to the second.”

      Not limited to, but that’s the main threat.

      Check out Pelosi’s latest threat about guns :

      “Pelosi warns GOP: Next president could declare national emergency on guns”

      “Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday issued a warning to Republicans poised to support President Trump’s decision to declare a national emergency at the southern border: the next Democratic president, she said, could do the same on guns.

      “A Democratic president can declare emergencies, as well,” Pelosi told reporters in the Capitol. “So the precedent that the president is setting here is something that should be met with great unease and dismay by the Republicans.”

      • Geoff I would argue that the main threat already passed with the Patriot act and possibly computerized medical records what we see now is phase 2. With that said I agree with your take on possible end runs

      • Is the noisy bitch planning to show up here to take mine, or is she planning to send the next Dem president?

      • Pelosi surely understands that there is a HUGE gulf between a president declaring an emergency to get money for building a wall and another president declaring an emergency to nullify entire sections of the US Constitution in order to remove our civil rights. Or maybe she doesn’t. Or maybe she doesn’t care.

        • Let’s remind pelosi that a democrat president, roosevelt, already rounded Americans up and place them, at gunpoint, in concentration camps.

          It seems that violating human and civil rights is kinda the dems thing.

  1. I don’t care how nice they are. I don’t care how well-educated they are. I don’t care about their background. The gun grabbers, people who support gun control simply do not support civil rights.

    And supporting the right for felons to be able to vote but they can’t have a gun, or supporting the right to be able to live in the home of your choice, but you can’t have a gun in your own home. That is not supporting civil rights.
    The Liberals are delusional and intellectually dishonest people.

  2. …except he’s not right. Many objects are abused when persons do evil things with them. The flaw in his logic is deeming it acceptable to predetermine who is or is not an “evil person” before any evil act is committed. That’s the core of “innocent until proven guilty in a Court of Law”. Even though that principle can create some unfortunate exceptions, by and large it benefits the majority of us [as intended by the Founders].

    • Their gun control efforts are pre-emptive……take action now in case someone might do evil in the future. Under that premises, all aspiring priests entering theological school should be castrated. All persons filing to run for Illinois Governor should be jailed in the Governor’s Wing.

  3. All gun control is racist or classist or both.

    If AWB’s, mag limits, banning private sales et al actually reduced crime, then a legitimate argument could be made for them. But they don’t. Those laws are solely about punishing people who the lawmakers think have an icky hobby/are too stupid to be able to decide on their own what they “need” to defend themselves.

    If those laws reduced the number one cause of gun deaths, suicide, then an argument could be made for them, but they don’t.

    What does reduce both crime and suicides is root cause mitigation— addressing the problems before the problems load a gun— but that is all hard work that is complicated and unglamorous. It doesn’t make headlines.

    By putting up unreasonable barriers to ownership, thereby removing their most effective means of protection,gun control is also anti-woman and anti-LGBTQ.

    By addin carve-outs for the police to the laws, gun control creates tiered citizenship, an is therefore unAmerican horseshit.

    Democrats claim to be the champions of the under-represented people mentioned above and of egalitarian ideas, but their rabid commitment to civilian disarmament says otherwise.

  4. And a short barrelled rifle with a suppressor or a shotgun should be an obvious choice when someone is deciding what tool they should get to defend their house. Too bad the legal issues with obtaining these and then trying to sell them if you get into tough times or want something different often make that legal process hard to justify. Not to mention the $200 fine for wanting just a little more freedom is a bit salty on top of a $500+ suppressor and insert whatever amount to the rifle or shotgun or whatever. #repealnfa

  5. “The Liberals are delusional” No they are not. They know exactly what they are doing and as long as we think they are stupid and keep calling them names other that what they really are we loose ground, and it happens every day. Theses people are agents with the purpose to destroy America.

    • If they are Agents how would someone get rid of them? A hopeless civil war is out, guerilla’s need a populace and perhaps another country behind it to succeed. Voting doesn’t seem to work, impeachment never happens, and few resign. The children are taught in a government controlled school, religion is a No No , (whether God is real or not, it teaches good moral’s, just for you atheist), BLDM baby’s lives don’t matter, you have the freedom of speech, you have the right to remain silent. Drugs and drug addicts are out of control, and some Lilly livered law maker hides behind walls with armed security while they strip the Constitution, not just the 2a but all of them

      • ” whether God is real or not, it teaches good moral’s, just for you atheist ”

        Worked pretty well for the Catholic church, didn’t it?

  6. Instant gratification is one of the biggest issues of our time. We, as an American society, have become spoiled; we want easy fixes to our problems right now. This problematic change in our ethos manifests itself in a number of ways, and sadly gun control is one of them.
    There is no quick-n-easy fix for America’s issue of violence. It is a complex issue that requires a complex solution. We focus on guns (either as a solution or a problem) because it’s controversial (as humans tend to notice differences before noticing similarities). I cant help but think that our fixation with guns (again, either in support or against them) is overshadowing many other facets to this complex solution that both the left and right can agree upon.

  7. Quite often, firearms owners are their own worst enemies. The duck hunters don’t like the AR-15 “black rifles” so they see no problem if attempts are made to ban them. The traditional rifle owners don’t like machine guns, so they have no problem with them being legislated out of existence. Some pistol owners see nothing wrong with certain long guns being outlawed just as some rifle owners would have no problem seeing pistols banned. You see, anti-gunners want them all. They will chip away a little at a time until their goal of civilian disarmament is complete. They have an excuse for banning every firearm. Scoped bolt-action rifles are defined by anti-gunners as “sniper rifles” because they are “too accurate”. Magazine-fed weapons are suspect because of high (actually normal) magazine capacity. Handguns are suspect because they are “easily concealable”. The gun grabbers want them all and have made (flimsy and suspect) excuses for banning every type of firearm. They don’t care how long it takes. and will use incrementalism to their advantage.
    Friends, ALL firearms advocates must “hang together” and realize that an assault on ANY means of firearms ownership and self-defense is an assault on ALL forms of firearms ownership and self-defense.
    There is absolutely NO ROOM for complacency among ANY Second Amendment supporters. An attack on one is an attack on ALL…
    ALL firearms laws are unconstitutional on their face. Imagine the hue and cry if “reasonable” restrictions were placed on First Amendment activities, especially with the “mainstream media”. The Second Amendment is clear–what part of “shall not be infringed” do politicians and the media not understand…of course, they understand full well…it’s part of their communist agenda…
    Even the NRA bears some responsibility for capitulation on matters concerning firearms. The NRA failed when it allowed the National Firearms Act of 1934 to stand without offering opposition, the 1968 Gun Control Act, the NICS “instant check” system, the “no new machine gun for civilians” ban in 1986, the so-called “assault weapons ban in 1994, and other infringements of the Second Amendment. Let’s face it. What better way to increase membership than to “allow” infringements to be enacted and then push for a new membership drive. Yes, the NRA has done good, but its spirit of “compromise” will only lead to one thing…confiscation.
    If the NRA is truly the premier “gun rights” organization, it must reject ALL compromise…

    • “and the traditional rifle owners” , ain’t it the truth, just had a conversation with an acquaintance the other day about the assault weapon ban. He say, ” WELL THAT WON’T AFFECT ME” ,

  8. The problem is, we have allowed the anti Second Amendment crowd to define the terms.
    A firearm is a tool which possess no evil intent on its own. Assigning intent to an inanimate object is the epitome of insanity. Demonizing a weapon on “looks alone” also marks the accuser as an unstable individual who is also insane. Call them out on their illogic and insanity.
    Another dirty tactic the anti-Second Amendment crowd uses exposes children to potential and actual harm by putting them in “gun-free zones”. These people care not one wit about children, but uses them for their own nefarious purposes.
    We need to TAKE BACK the argument…
    When the antis blame the firearm for the actions of a criminal, state that: “a firearm is an inanimate object, subject only to the intent of the user. Firearms ARE used to preserve life and make a 90 lb. woman equal to a 200 lb. criminal.
    When the antis attempt to justify their “gun free zones” counter their misguided argument with “you mean, criminal safety zones” or “victim disarmament zones”. State that “we protect our money, banks, politicians and celebrities, buildings and facilities with PEOPLE WITH GUNS, but protect our children with “gun-free zone” signs”.
    When the antis state that: “you don’t need and AR-15”, counter with, “Who are YOU to consider what I need?”
    When the antis criticize AR-15s in general, counter with: “you mean the most popular rifle of the day, useable by even the smallest, weakest person as a means of self-defense. Besides, AR-15s are FUN to shoot”. Offer to take them to the range and supply them with an AR-15, ammunition and range time. I have made many converts this way.
    When the antis state that: “You don’t need an AR-15 to hunt with”, counter with “AR-15s ARE used for hunting, but in many states, are prohibited from being used to take large game because they are underpowered”.
    When the antis state that: “AR-15s are high powered rifles”, correct them by stating that “AR-15s with the .223 or 5.56mm cartridge are considered medium-powered weapons–NOT “high-powered” by any means”.
    When the antis state that: “the Constitution was written during the time of muskets, and that the Second Amendment should only apply to “weapons of that time period”, state that: “by your logic, the First Amendment should not apply to modern-day telecommunications, internet, television, radio, public-address systems, books and newspapers produced on high-speed offset printing presses. Only “town-criers” and Benjamin Franklin type printing presses would be covered under the First Amendment”.
    When the antis state that “only law enforcement and government should possess firearms”, remind them of the latest school shooting, as well as Columbine, where “law enforcement” SAT ON THEIR HANDS while children were being murdered, afraid to challenge the shooter, despite being armed to the hilt. The government-run murderous sieges at Ruby Ridge and Waco are also good examples of government (mis)use of firearms.
    Gun-banners want ALL guns, even if they attempt to get them a little at a time, chipping away at the Second Amendment. Here are the “excuses” that the anti-gun crowd uses to “justify” their misguided position:
    Handguns–“too concealable”
    Rifles–“too accurate”
    Shotguns–“too deadly”
    The Second Amendment is the most “infringed” of any part of the Constitution.
    This tome can be used to counter any argument against any infringement of our Second Amendment.
    It’s always been about CONTROL…

  9. A Free Republic does not limit the rights of the masses because some abuse those same rights. A very simple concept.

  10. It’s not just guns. Progressive communists are literally backing themselves into a corner on every issue. They are in competition to see who can take the train further off the rails. Look at the front runners for 2020….

    By 2020 dem party will collapse with infighting and brazen stupidity. I’m not saying the gop is a friend to tax paying citizens.. They just know how to keep their fascist/big government beliefs under the radar a little better.

    If you’re worried about future gun bans. Stock up now. Non of what they’re proposing is enforceable anyway….

  11. “Common sense gun reform” is of a kind with:
    * common sense slavery
    * common sense Jim Crow
    * common sense anti-sodomy laws
    * common sense Nuremberg laws
    * common sense Sharia

    Like the others, it’s merely a way for sociopaths to harm those whom they hate and fear.

  12. Their main goal is not safety or keeping people alive, their main objective is people control. They don’t want to imprison the “poor misguided” miscreants. As an aside, Jews in favor of gun control is really beyond my comprehension. Adolf must be chuckling in hell.

  13. It’s certainly lazy to scapegoat gun owners for the ills caused by the Neo-liberalization of our economic system. It’s much easier to call for gun control than to make Soros, Bloomberg, the Koch’s, Bezos and the rest pay for common sense social reforms.

  14. The left cannot acknowledge evil because they are the if it feels go do it bunch. To admit evil exists then you have to admit good exists. Then you have to define which is good or evil. If there is good and evil then they eventually have to admit there is a God and this they cannot do. Atheists will not admit this. So they have to blame inanimate objects as bad although they can only be defective but not evil.

  15. If we do not “common sense” gun reform, does that mean that current gun reforms (1968 Gun Control Act, 1993 Brady Act) are not “common sense”?

    Should they be repealed?
