A gunman accused of shooting and seriously wounding Lady Gaga’s dog walker and stealing her two French bulldogs was mistakenly released from jail and is being sought, authorities said Friday.

James Howard Jackson, 19, was facing an attempted murder charge when he was released from Los Angeles County’s jail on Wednesday “due to a clerical error,” the county Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

The sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau is Major Crimes Bureau is working on finding him, the statement said.

Jackson is one of five people arrested in connection with the Feb. 24, 2021, attack in Hollywood. Prosecutors said Jackson and two other alleged gang members had driven around looking for expensive French bulldogs to steal, then spotted, tailed and robbed Ryan Fischer as he walked Lady Gaga’s dogs near Sunset Boulevard.

During a violent struggle, Fischer was hit, choked and then shot in an attack captured by the doorbell camera of a nearby home.

The camera recorded the dog walker screaming “Oh, my God! I’ve been shot!” and “Help me!” and “I’m bleeding out from my chest!”

Fischer lost part of a lung.

“While I’m deeply concerned at the events that led to his release, I’m confident law enforcement will rectify the error,” Fischer said in a statement obtained by KABC-TV. “I ask for Mr. Jackson to turn himself over to the authorities, so resolution to the crime committed against me runs its course, whatever the courts determine that outcome to be.”

The pop star’s dogs were returned two days later by a woman who claimed she had found them tied to a pole and asked about Lady Gaga’s offer of a $500,000 reward if the dogs were returned “no questions asked.” The singer was in Rome at the time filming a movie.

She’s charged with receiving stolen property and the father of another suspect is charged with helping him avoid arrest.

Jackson already had been charged in the attack and had pleaded not guilty when the county district attorney’s office filed a superceding indictment Tuesday charging him with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a robbery and assault with a semiautomatic firearm.

The move was done “to speed up the legal process” and Jackson was arraigned Wednesday under a new case number, the DA’s office said in a statement.

“Mr. Jackson was subsequently released from custody by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. We are unsure as to why they did so,” the statement said.

  1. “I ask for Mr. Jackson to turn himself over to the authorities, so resolution to the crime committed against me runs its course, whatever the courts determine that outcome to be.”

Made me laugh…that there is some wishful thinking…hint: ain’t gonna happen.

  2. Add insult to injury. What can happen when Gun Control compliant citizens in CA go wandering around with no means of self defense.

  3. Haz,

This is the same Sheriff and his trained monkeys flunkys who are processing your CWP…no wonder it is taking years longer than promised by the Illustrious Sheriff Villanueva….they keep “clerical erroring” your paperwork.

Keep the faith Brother…it will happen eventually.

  4. Wait! I’ve been reading for weeks about the LA D.A. policy of releasing felons post haste. Why was this young man incarcerated after all this time to begin with? If the new charges were meant to speed up the judicial process, they succeed. He’s free.

  5. A “clerical error”? Was this in any way similar to the “erroneous code entry” that caused the CDC to recently re-classify a large portion of its own COVID death tallies and drop the total by a whopping 25%?

I wonder if that will work for me…

“Sorry, officer, but I was carrying this gun on my person without a permit due to an internal clerical error in my household’s records.”

    • I’m old enough to remember when overblown Wuflu death counts were considered to be a conspiracy theory. Will there be an apology? I assume this topic will be breathlessly reported by the same people that breathlessly reported the fake death numbers.

As for the topic at hand, the Sheriff will obviously have to resign in disgrace. He knows Californians won’t stand for anything less.

    • Maybe it will work for your next speeding ticket.
It was a clerical error you were actually going 25% slower than the cop said.

  6. Sheriff Alex Villanueva has had much of his authority wrested from him due to our State and County’s odd power structure. Much of what’s happening here is not his fault, and he’s been publicly and vocally attempting to stop it. He opposes Governor Newsom, Mayor Garcetti, and D.A. Garcon. He is, ironically, the only registered Democrat I’ll ever consider voting for, largely because he behaves as an old-school JFK Democrat.

    • Even if he’s conservative, he probably has to run as a Democrat if he wants to win in that area. My dad is a big Democrat in a red district. When he ran for reelection as a judge, he suddenly became an independent.

If I lived in a blue district, I’d register as a Democrat, and vote for the least evil commie in the primaries.

      • You’re likely correct with that suggestion. Villanueva acts, for all intents and purposes, as a conservative.

  7. Lemme get this straight – ‘Lady Gaga’ offers a cool one-half a million dollars to get her living, breathing, pissing-and-crapping engines returned to her “no questions asked”, and they arrested and harassed the person who turned them in? 🙁

    • Doesn’t matter if a private person offers a reward. The cops discovered the woman claiming to have found the dogs was in fact one of five people involved in the crime. So, the pop star can do as she likes but the cops can still arrest the people involved in the crime.

        • “…Notalady Gugu is a moron and skank whose opinion is not relevant.”

          Pftttpt.

          I’d still like to tap it… 😉

        • To Geoff:
I’ll give you twenty foot of rope and a flashlight, if you find the other guy with a broken 2×4 strapped to his ass bring him back.
          You’ll be a hero.

        • Guy spits out chunks of beef, guy spits out some carrot, lettuce, piece of egg,,” god this is nasty, enough to make you puke.”
          LadyG
” Yeah that’s what the last guy said.”

    • I am willing to believe the dog walker who got shot didn’t exactly consent to letting by gones be by gones.

  8. >assault with a semiautomatic firearm

But it would have been fine if he had shot the guy with a bolt- or levergunnm, right?

  9. It was a government Union worker. An office Clerk who gave Randy Weaver the wrong date for his court appearance. And as everyone knows a unionized government worker cannot be fired for incompetence. Or anything else.

It was President John F Kennedy using his executive order power, who allowed Federal government workers to unionize. And the state and local governments would follow along later, allowing those government workers to unionize. And that is why you have crappy service from the D M V. Or any government office you have to go to.

  10. Californy is the place you oughta be. Or not. BREAKING: 3 murdered at Georgia gun range/shop. Owner, wife & grandson. 40 gats stolen. No video. The cretins disabled it.

    • Criminals steal guns. They don’t buy them from any gun store. This is very sad. Pray for the vicitms and their families.

  11. Well with 14,000 people in la county jail I could see how that could happen.
That’s a lot of stuff to take care of.

  12. I am not a fan of Lady GaGa, I don’t hate her, just not a fan but this case really burns me up. I know that dogs are very important companions to people, and this is the case here. Lady GG hires a good guy to walk them and take good care of them and these two idiots shoot the DW and steal the pups. They could have stolen them without shooting, but I suppose the DW resisted as any decent human being would. I hope they make an example of the perpetrators, including the girls who turned in the dog. Theses guys were trying to profit from Lady GG’s fame.

    • Well sure, its called dog napping.
And everyone knows let sleeping dogs lye.
I think they all should have stayed on the porch.
You’ve gotta give the dog walker credit though, he did fight back, I guess you could say he had a dog in this fight, well two actually.
Thank goodness the dogs weren’t stolen by some vietnamese,,,,,,,hsssssssssssssss

      • “Thank goodness the dogs weren’t stolen by some vietnamese,,,,,,,hsssssssssssssss”

Quickly, they would have been in a better place…..my stomach.

  13. Lady Gaga, never did like her acting that much. Her acting always made me sort of want to gag gag. She has this contrived put on ‘Mae West’ type style about her that she can’t really pull off that well, its like she isn’t a real person but a cheap plastic imitation of one.

  14. You say his last name is Jackson?? That’s been in the news a lot lately, can’t recall what it was all about.
