In June of last year, the NRA introduced a bill to define the term “sporting purposes.” As the presser for the doomed bill declared, “many federal laws that regulate the importation, possession and transfer of firearms measure the lawful utility of firearms based on their usefulness for so-called ‘sporting purposes.’ BATFE and anti-gun administrations have exploited the lack of a clear definition of ‘sporting purposes’ to bypass Congress and impose gun control through executive fiat.” In other words, it’s a gun control loophole! One that California Rep. Jackie Speier wants to exploit . . .

The legislation proposed by Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) calls for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to act on its power to bar the import of assault weapons that “are not suitable or readily adaptable for sporting purposes.”

The legislation, which would not affect gun production in the U.S., would include the imported Serbian AK-47 that was used to kill three and wound 14 others in Hesston, Kansas on Feb. 25, Speier said in a Facebook post on the bill.

“Current law allows the ATF to ban the importation of these assault weapons, but NRA lobbying has prevented the agency from exercising this authority,” said Speier, who was a congressional aide in 1978, when she was shot five times during the Jonestown Massacre in Guyana.

Some might say that Ms. Speier’s inability to understand the sporting purposes of an AR- or AK-style rifle — which includes hunting, target practice and removing a bad guy’s sporting chances of getting away with rape, robbery, assault or murder — indicates that she’s drunk gun control Kool-Aid, but I couldn’t possibly comment.

“The bill is supported by the Center for American Progress, Violence Policy Center, Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence united with the Million Mom March, Washington Office on Latin America,” Ms. Speier’s website reveals. The Million Mom March? Wasn’t that the first, failed incarnation of Shannon Watts’ Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America? Try and keep up Jackie!

Anyway, nydailynews.com [which provided the quote above] was quick to point out that “The proposed legislation would not affect gun production in the U.S. The bill “would happily see American manufacturers take up the slack once European producers were banned from the U.S. market.” As if the Republican Congress would let this turkey out of committee. That said . . .

If Ms. Clinton is elected President there’s nothing to stop her from directing the ATF to ban imported rifles using the “sporting provisions” loophole. Congress could then defund the ATF or rewrite the law, but Clinton would have the first mover advantage. Just so we’re clear.

  1. There must be a $hitty (D) catalog of outfits for these buffoons. What 1940’s store carries this crap? Back on Track- Yes vee must only use German- oh, I mean Merica’ made black death machines!

    • Keep laughin’ and jokin’…then go out and “Get what you can get, while you can get it”…the quote has been mine for the past 25 years and has got me cabinets full of .02 cent .22’s, $89. cases of .223 and 7.62×39, etc.
Today’s prices look crazy to me, but might seem like a bargain in the future.

    • I look forward to President Trump and solid Congress gutting and abusing the ATF until they scrap it as a hole.

  2. Honestly, I’m shocked that BHO hasn’t done this already. In fact that, and ammo importation were my main executive action concerns. There’s a LOT of ambiguity in importation laws that we should be wholly aware of concerning executive fiat! Mark my words,

    • This is going to mostly effect weapons that Californians cant have any way….. I’ve told you guys so many times; you can run from California but California will hunt you down and try take your guns where ever you go…… Stay in California and fight the beast in its layer!! For the children!!!

  3. I went through my shoebox looking for my Jonestown KoolAid recipe. Can’t find it anywhere…

  4. Real “assault” weapons have been banned for civilian purchase for a while… Always cracks me up how these politicians don’t have a clue.

    as·sault ri·fle
    noun
noun: assault rifle; plural noun: assault rifles

a rapid-fire, magazine-fed automatic rifle designed for infantry use.

Now, when they come out and say that semi-auto rifles are going to be banned, then we got big issues…

    • Assault rifle is just a made up term used by politicians. The military doesn’t use them. 3 out of 4 grunts just use rifles or carbines.

  5. She is a democrat from California. We know where she stands on gun control without even asking.

  6. Importation of “assault weapons” is already banned. The 922(r) regs require that a minimum of US made parts be included on any non-sporting rifle.

  7. Ahhhhhhhhnother Kalifornian politician. I cant say what Im thinking but you all already know it.

  8. What’s with these middle aged uterus containers thinking they can dictate what guys need or want. Figure it out you FLAME DELETED we don’t care what you want! Stay in that sh– hole California and quit trying to dictate what the rest of us want before someone drops a house on you.

  9. Well I have a Mag fed semi-auto 12ga that I use for turkey. I have an AR15 Pistol in 7.62×39 I use for deer and hogs. What’s the problem? Sorry, no elmer fudd here. Tactical Fudd? So be it. 🙂

** Note all the tactical extra $hit comes off after humping thru the woods for a few days. Just like hiking, the lighter the better! BTW “SeeAll” sights ROCK.

    • See All Open Sights are the best $100 option out there for parallax free optics. For hunting though, they are terrible at twilight. Hopefully their tritium option will fix that.

  10. Congress won’t defund anything. The power of the government is restricted only by our ability to fight tyranny.

  11. This is a reason why I am building an AK-74 in 300blk. All it takes is the stroke of the pen, and the cucks in congress to bend over and imports dry up. We already saw it happen with Saigas. Although, it did get me started on building my own AKs now from parts kits. That’s been more fun than Saiga conversions.

  12. The legislation proposed by Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) calls for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to act on its power to bar the import of assault weapons that “are not suitable or readily adaptable for sporting purposes.”
I think several companies selling AK-47s already see the writing on the wall and are taking appropriate action. Jackie might be careful of what she is wishing for.

    • Sporting purposes? Throw a scope on it and or if it can take a 5 or 10 round mags depending on state it’s good for hunting.

I’m a really bad shot I need a 75 rounds drum and a giggle switch to hit the deer or I dunno what do folks hunt, orphans?

Probably some of those US AK makers asking for a helping hand to compete. Give it a few years and the foreign companies will have US presence, government contracts and be forcing the actual US companies out of business.

    • Here’s a tidbit for you. Russia has SHIPS that are equipped with bottling automated machines tied to local INCONUS piers. A truck with grain alcohol pulls up, pumps into the ship and PRESTO Russian Vodka…….. and it’s all legal. Very Nice!

  13. Downunder the supply of 7.62×39 is drying up and is selling for almost a dollar per round for steel-cased Norinco.

The federal government banned the importation on the pretext that only now banned SKS and other self-loading rifles used the cartridge.

Even though plenty of Mark X Mausers, Ruger 77s, and converted Lee-Enfields are chambered for 7.62×39, the government hasn’t relented.

And handloads cannot match the performance of the steel cased ammo.

Concerns about ammunition availability are why I went to .223 Remington conversions. The higher startup cost has paid dividends in the being able buy off the shelf ammunition and plenty of low cost reloading supplies, including hundreds of 5.56 brass left on our range by the army when they did an exercise many years ago.

    • That sux, the way you all gotta shift n slide. Damn I had High Hopes for Australia. Its like America part two. Well git it figurrd out, then USA will follow suite….DAMN…

  14. I can’t quite recall all the words … something about … um, ends with “… you and the horse you rode in on!” Ms. Speier.

  15. I for one am grateful to her.

Reading about her proposed legislation got me off BDC on ordering the parts to finish my first AR pistol build.

  16. Lets be famous. 5Million man march to the whitehouse lawn, for the Constitution. Not joking, someone smarter then me(wont take much) needs to organize this. Letters n emails dont work, relying on them snakes we vote for dont either. A show of force, come on boys, gitter done

    • Video game playn panzies. Word spell check political correct, oh so edjucated, email fairy tale walk a mile, blisters on my feet, new car drive far, just to get to the range, signs up outta luck, write letter to give a fck. Nothins going to change. Vote for him vote for her, playin word game its a slur, loving my life, its the cure, got this got that, lose it all Im fat, iits gone cant get it back, sorry kids guns gone freedom rung, had it long ago….And Then

  17. “The legislation, which would not affect gun production in the U.S., would include the imported Serbian AK-47 that was used to kill three and wound 14 others in Hesston, Kansas on Feb. 25.”

Left unsaid is the fact that the Hesston, KS shooting was committed by a felon who was prohibited from possessing a firearm who acquired two firearms from his ex-girlfriend.

So of course, the answer is to ban imports.

  18. This is where Obama attacked us and succeeded the most on gun control. Every president since Reagan has screwed with imports with no end in sight. At the rate we are going all imported gun items will be banned since we have no mechanism to fight it. I only wonder what the next administration will ban since I guarantee you it will happen.
