Auntie Beeb reports that the Canadian parliament voted 153 to 151 to defeat a bill that would have ended the long gun registry. Conservative PM Stephen Harper vowed to try again. Opposition to the regulation was stronger “than it has ever been.” But not strong enough. But maybe strong enough to serve as a club with which Canadian Conservatives can beat their rivals in the next election campaign. “The people of the regions of this country are never going to accept being treated like criminals,” Harper asserted. “And we will continue our efforts until this registry is finally abolished.” We shall see.
