BELLEVUE, WA – The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today congratulated three new pro-Second Amendment senators who replace anti-gunners and strengthen the Republican majority, which will be important to confirming federal court nominees and prevent House Democrats from pushing extremist gun control laws.

Democrats Claire McCaskill of Missouri, Joe Donnelly of Indiana, Bill Nelson of Florida and Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota all lost their seats to pro Second Amendment challengers. It is also important to note that all four voted against confirmation of strong constitutionalist Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. McCaskill was defeated by Josh Hawley, Donnelly was displaced by Mike Braun and Heitkamp lost her seat to Kevin Cramer. Nelson has been defeated by Gov. Rick Scott.

Likewise, pro-rights Sen. Ted Cruz will be back after fending off a tough challenge by anti-gun-rights Democrat Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke. Sen. Cruz called out Senate Democrats during the Kavanaugh hearings, noting that much of their opposition was grounded in their dislike for the Second Amendment.

According to ABC News preliminary exit polling, 47 percent of voters live in gun-owner households, suggesting that gun ownership played a key role in successful races. Gun owners turned out in higher percentages than most other exit poll demographic groups.

“We think these five races constitute big wins for gun owners,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “With a stronger Senate, President Trump’s agenda can continue making the Second Amendment great again.

“We were particularly delighted that North Dakota voters will send Cramer to the Senate after an attempt by Democrats to discourage hunters in the state from voting backfired dramatically,” he added.

There is also some indication that fallout from the Brett Kavanaugh hearings might have hurt incumbent Democrats who voted against confirmation, because of his previous pro-gun-rights court opinion. McCaskill, Donnelly, Nelson and Heitkamp all voted against confirmation.

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (www.ccrkba.org) is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States.

  1. We HAD both houses of Congress and the White House… where’s the HPA? Where’s our national reciprocity??

Oh.. that’s right. Most Republicans are barely pro gun and just pay us lip service when it comes time to vote.

    • You talking about the voters or the politicians? Most gun owners talk a good game, but aren’t EVER willing to hold their reps accountable for supporting gun control or especially for failing to support gun reforms. Hard to blame politicians for ignoring us when we keep giving both money & votes to them for doing nothing, and that goes for the big pro-gun ‘activist’ group, too.

    • The House passed national reciprocity. They would also have passed the HPA, we’re scheduled to vote on it, but then Parkland happened.

The problem wasn’t the House, it was the Senate. You need 60 votes in the Senate, and Trump had a solid 45. Trump never had the Senate, there were too many Flakes and McCains that opposed him and his agenda.

The Republican world has changed DRASTICALLY since 2016. Now, all Republicans in the Senate are on the Trump train.

If they would schedule a lame-duck session on national reciprocity in the Senate now, he would get all Republican votes, but that would still be only 51. Unless they abandon the filibuster rule, nothing is getting passed through the Senate for either party.

  2. Ummm…OK. Funny but Braun spoke at the large Hammond,IN 1st Baptist church we attend and he said nothing about guns(God either). Anyone belong to CCRKBA?

  3. I figure that out when the “Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement” Act of 2017, NEVER left the US House of Representatives in September 2017. To date it STILL hasn’t left the House of Representatives or even been voted on…

      • I noticed that TOO…why I queried about CCRKBA. One wonders at being that clueless😖

        • Clueless, or ambivalent? I hate sounding like some liberal claiming some vast right-wing conspiracy, but a lot of the big pro-gun groups aren’t much more than fundraising organs of the GOP; the NRA is almost undeniably more GOP-shill group than pro-gun group. Now, there’s a lot of overlap there, but it sure seems that the NRA forgives all sins whenever a politician flexes on guns (like Scott) so long as he still has a fat pipe to the party higher-ups (like Scott)

  4. I’d like to congratulate former senator Jeff Sessions RINO of Alabama, nee Former U.S. attorney general on being fired from government service, good riddance to bad RINO’s.
