“It was unclear at what point Cmdr. Glenn Evans allegedly placed the barrel of his service weapon into the suspect’s mouth,” chicagotribune.com reports. Despite the Trib’s deployment of the word “allegedly” it seems pretty clear that’s exactly what Cmdr. Evans did. “DNA from the man was found on Evans’ gun, according to a State Police lab report.” That said, innocent until proven guilty!

Despite the fact that “Evans is among 662 officers with 11 or more complaints during a five-year period in the 2000s, newly released police records show. He had 14 complaints between 2001 and 2006 and faced no discipline for any of them, the records show.” Evan’s boss, Supt. Garry “Guns Are the Problem” McCarthy, is a big Evans fan.

In fact . . .

During an unrelated news conference Monday at a West Side police station, McCarthy gave a stern response to a reporter when asked whether he supported Evans despite IPRA’s recommendation to have him relieved of his police powers.

“I’m not going to answer that question. That’s absurd. Do I support him? If I didn’t support him, he wouldn’t be there,” McCarthy said.

McCarthy continued to defend Evans, explaining how the commander was working through two high-profile incidents in his district over the weekend: the accidental shooting of a 3-year-old boy, and the shooting of an armed teenager by police that sparked protests.

“I’m sorry, do you know that Cmdr. Evans was working from 9 o’clock Friday morning until about midnight Saturday …? You don’t,” McCarthy said. “And you also don’t know that Cmdr. Evans was on the scene of the police-related shooting last night on Sunday evening to ensure that there was not a problem on the streets. So you really should have some context when you ask questions like that.”

Context. Given the info above – 662 officers with more than 11 complaints lodged against them – and the recent revelations that the Chicago police have been cooking the books on crime stats, you’d think Supt. McCarthy would avoid that term. Which just goes to show you don’t have to be Jewish to have chutzpah. [h/t DD]

  1. He didn’t do anything wrong at all. Sometimes you have to do put a gun in someone’s mouth.

    He is God’s man appointed over us to rule us and punish us. He is led by God in all things so if he did that, it was because he has to. You can’t punish God’s man for doing what he had to do.

  3. It’s what I’ve been saying. There’s no hope of cleaning up a given city unless you start at the top. Get rid of the mayors, the councils and the cheifs that are corrupt and the little people will fall in line.

    • If you just “get rid of” people then that’s overturning the will of the people who elected them, so you have to have an election, and then you get people voting for the lesser of two evils, and that’s how we got into this mess, so what to do?

      • Let me clarify. The voters in a given, city/county/state/country have to put aside their petty differences and vote for justice. The lessor of 2 evils is a start. So long as the voters let the lessor know they will boot him after one cycle if he’s not an improvement.

        That, or we can keep going the way we are. It’s the citizens choice.

  5. Put yourself in this guy’s shoes. Who among us has never stuck a gun in somebody’s mouth? I know that when I get really tired, and stressed, I occasionally stick MY gun into somebody’s mouth. Come on, I don’t do it ALL the time, just at those ‘certain moments,’ and normally I’m really a nice guy, so what’s the big deal? Besides, THIS guy is Black.

    • My thoughts exactly. There is a major billionaire-funded push on to disempower citizens and render them victims. For just one example, see I-594 in WA State–Bill and Melinda Gates and others trying to use the state’s initiative process to undermine our state constitution’s 2A/pre-emption clause.

      They are also trying to delegitimate LE’s role in dealing with the undertow created and sustained as a threat to be unleashed on the law abiding anytime the MSM and their elite owners determine the time is ripe/an election is forthcoming/a Two Weeks’ Hate is needed.

      Chicago’s PD is as rotten as they come; Chicago Magazine laid all that out (see Robert’s link), including Rahm Emanuel’s role in it. This is the stink of Chicagoland. This doesn’t mean all LEOs in Chicagoland are corrupt. The ones who are, however, seem to do great in their careers.

        In these stories there always seems to be an apologist in the comments, “Not all cops are bad”. Well if they continue to cover up for each other then they all can be painted by the same brush.

      • Its pretty safe to say all cops in Chicago > 5 years are likely bad. Corrupt systems inherently weed out those who don’t tow the thin blue line. The entire force would have to be disbanded and replaced with out of town forces to fix the core of corruption there.

    • Okay, enough with the race comments. This is not a race issue. This is an abuse of power issue which obviously crosses race lines. You will not hear me dismiss racial profiling or ____ing while black problems, but let’s not lose sight of the real problem.

      • I think that’s exactly his point: that police abuse is not dependent upon race of the officers or of the citizenry they serve, but rather is fostered by a culture of corruption and detachment insulating officers from the consequences of their actions.

        • My point is a bit of sarcasm. Is that Dirk commenting too. That said I’ve known at least a dozen Chicago cops in my life and lived in Chicago. Several black cops too. Mostly total a##holes. The black cops especially hated their own. The general attitude was “he’s guilty of something”. And my black brothers in law railroaded for crimes they didn’t commit…

  9. Well then Superintendent, you are an accomplice in this matter since you allowed one of your officers, and one in a senior leadership position, to exceed his physical and mental limitations. You as his immediate supervisor allowed or directed him to work those hours, and subsequently put himself, other officers and the public at risk. You are derelict in your duties as a leader. Perhaps you should be disciplined for your lack of judgement as well.

  19. What does the officer’s work schedule over the last week and a half have to do with his alleged record of abuse of power over the last decade and a half?

    Whenever someone’s response seems wildly irrelevant or disproportionate to the assertion made or question posed, it’s likely that their response is actually in perfect proportion and relation to the totality of factors swirling in their heads.

    In this case, boss man is responding not simply to the question, but to the overall uncomfortable reality that he and his department have shielded and thereby encouraged a rogue cop’s abuse of the public for many years. Factor in that there are usually more incidents that take place which never find their way into a formal report, and you likely have an officer who’s been running rampant running roughshod.

    Boss man is angry at being unmasked as the leader of the city’s biggest criminal gang.

    Arm yourself, the Police State is coming and our only hope is that we have enough people to demand change by matching force with equal force. That is unless the present mentality of the manner of training our Law Enforcement officials is not changed and changed soon.

    Brown’s death hopefully will be remembered as the catalyst that caused the return of the local Law Enforcement Agency’s to be trained properly as public servants, not individual dictators. You get reflections of your actions when your in public service from those you abuse.

What if, just maybe, Brown was a dangerous out-of-control felon and a giant thug to boot, who’d just strong-armed a much smaller store owner while stealing from him, thus committing 2nd-Degree Robbery, a felony in any jurisdiction, and then committed another felony by seriously injuring a police officer (or any other person–if you break their orbital bone, you have seriously injured ANYONE) and was going to commit possibly the ultimate felony–murder–before he was killed by the intended victim with totally-legal and totally-justifiable force?

      You have leapt to several conclusions, but not ONCE, just like the savages in Ferguson, have you considered that the officer was NOT a jack-booted racist thug bent on murdering innocent black ‘youths,’ but was defending his own life in the only way that he had to survive.
