I just got off the blower with Chicago Police’s Gun Registry unit. I asked Officer X what I should do about my [fictitious] uncle’s handgun; it’s on the city’s recently released list of prohibited handguns. “Put it in your house and leave it there,” the cop advised. “When you use it, worry about it then.” I asked how his boss had selected guns for the no-shoot list, and why it included a modern weapon like the Walther P22 [above]. “It might be something to do with the fact that it’s small and can be concealed,” he suggested. And then, “Honestly, we have no idea.” Clearly, the cop sympathized with beleaguered Chicago residents who own illegal guns for self-defense. “We may not agree with what’s going on,” he said. “But we do what we’re told.”
“We may not agree with what’s going on,” he said. “But we do what we’re told.”
Sad.
I believe that zinc slides, frames or receivers are forbidden in Chicago, and the P22 has a zinc slide.
