Anti-gunners have been hemming and hawing about the impact of the Colorado recall vote. Truth be told, the historic pushback has set the gun control industrial complex back on its heels. If gun control isn’t [once again] the third rail in American politics—as witnessed by California’s long march towards civilian disarmament—it’s a hell of a lot more prickly a poppy than it was a month or a year ago. As you’d expect, the grass roots group that kicked-off the kick ’em out campaign is looking to build on their success and repeal the ammunition magazine capacity and background check laws that pissed them off in the first place. basicfreedomdefensefund.com has launched a petition drive “to reduce government control in the lives of Coloradans.” [full text after the jump] See what they did there? Can’t wait to see what they can do there . . .
Petition to reduce government control in the lives of Coloradans
Our State and Federal governments have recently threatened freedom and liberty. The government has inserted itself into our lives like never before, and furthermore our state leaders have ignored citizens at every opportunity.
We encourage you to SIGN THE PETITION TODAY and make your voice heard! The Basic Freedom Defense Fund and Pueblo Freedom & Rights will deliver these petitions to every legislator in Colorado. By signing this petition you are speaking out and saying:
1. As legislators, you “…Shall Not Infringe”
The 2nd Amendment is very clear, it says that our government “shall not infringe…” We strongly believe that a number of unconstitutional laws were passed in an attempt to further disarm citizens and infringe on or limit our rights. Chief among these laws were a ban on standard capacity magazines that you need to defend yourself properly, and a law making it illegal to give a friend or family member a firearm unless you conduct a background check. Furthermore these background checks are more than just a “check,” the form 4473’s are NEVER destroyed and government routinely makes copies of them – effectively creating a firearms registry. This is illegal, and the first step towards confiscation.
2. Listen to the People!
Legislators should listen to EVERY constituent that comes to testify at the Capitol on proposed legislation. We believe in the right to RECALL and have proven that is a tool in Colorado to hold our legislators accountable when they don’t listen!
3. Repeal the gun laws
We ask that you Pledge to Repeal Colorado’s new unconstitutional gun laws. The magazine ban must be repealed so that law abiding citizens, especially women, can properly defend themselves. The background check law must be repealed because it’s unenforceable, will make law abiding citizens into criminals, is overburdening to rural communities, won’t reduce crime in any measurable way, strongly interferes with hunting, sporting and self defense where a firearm must be quickly acquired, and because the 4473 forms will provide a defacto gun registry for the government. For these reasons, we urge you to vote to repeal these stringent gun laws, and urge you to support ballot initiatives to repeal them.
Citizens are tired of having our rights trampled by government. Government MUST reduce its intrusion into people’s lives and stop the encroachment on our freedoms.
We hope you’ll join us and SIGN THE PETITION TODAY! [Click here to link to the petition.]
good for them!
Bravo!
Where do I sign?!?!?!?
Oh, I suppose I have to be a Colorado resident. I was planning to move there until they passed their recent repressive firearm laws. Not only have I decided not to move there, I have also decided not to vacation there.
Apparently following the recall election it is now standard practice that you can vote in Colorado if you state that you INTEND to move to the locality where you are voting, with no apparent penalty if you later change your mind and don’t actually move there. I guess that means that if we state an intention to move to Colorado we can vote for their governor and senators and Congressmen? /s
I realize that was sarcasm. But I’ll take this opportunity to point out that you DID have to be a Colorado resident for the prior 22 days to vote in the recall, so only intrastate “false movers” could vote.
Finally some good news today out-effing-standing. I think this petition should be adapted to every state and sent to both state and federal goverments maybe then there will be a loud pop as washington removes its head from its 4th point of contact
SIGN ME UP!
Agreeing to this petition would require legislators who are actually capable of reading it and understanding it. Since “shall not be infringed” seems to be a bit much for some Republican and all Democrat politicians to grasp, I’m not holding out a lot of hope.
It may get traction in a state like CO. Maybe. Still.
But if this petition were to be offered up in a state like CA. the super-majority Democrats would simply toss it in the trash without thought or consideration; not because they wouldn’t understand it, but because they sincerely believe they own the state and are accountable to no-one so. Such a petition would be inconsequential to them.
Problem is, the way things are with this state’s unmotivated sheeple voters, the Dem Pols are probably right. Until the fashionably Democrat airhead voters wake up to find the constitutional protections THEY CARE ABOUT being abridged by Democrat sponsored legislative action, CA will only continue to powered up and run by the liberal “progressive” legislators who currently run Sacramento and hence the rest of the state with little or no regard as to voter input.
These stinkin’ Democrats consider themselves caretakers of the public trust, as long as it conforms to their elitist views and keeps them in office.
In light of today’s events in DC… Problem will be the knee-jerk reaction by Dems (still in control of both state houses and governor’s manse) on the I-25 corridor.
Reminds me of trying to submit my Colorado CCW app on 04/20/1999; timing couldn’t have been worse.
Do they want out of state people signing it, or not?
“We believe in the right to RECALL and have proven that is a tool in Colorado to hold our legislators accountable when they don’t listen!”
What recourse, when the Democrat controlled gov’t changes the laws and procedures regarding recall?
Not certain, but I’m pretty sure that would require an amendment to our state constitution, which requires a majority vote by we the people. And it ain’t gonna fly with the people. Then again, I didn’t think we would put the right to get baked into the constitution either….
An Awesome Offensive Act, we definitely need more of them
Well, I’ll be signing and contributing since I’m a resident.
Unfortunate timing today, but that helps underscore just how important the issue really is.
Meanwhile there is an actual initiative (not just a symbolic petition they can ignore) in the signature phase to ensure that no magazine limit become law without a vote of the people (just vaguely phrased enough that one could sue to overturn the one we had rammed up our a**es), and another effort (not past website yet) that would add provisions to the Colorado Constitution declaring RKBA fundamental, repealing everything that happened this year, and requiring a vote of the people before any new infringements can happen.
Aren’t there some more dem legislators they can recall?
I’m a legal CO resident. I signed the petition.
Also posted a link to it on my facebook page, to get the news out to a few other Coloradans.
A lot of these politicians in office need to listen to they’re constituents,if they want to keep their jobs come next election,Morse told them to ignore their constituents on gun control and ya’ll see where it got him!The best thing they can do is repeal these laws now,or face the consequences,if they don’t it appears with the sentiment that went into the recall will reflect at the next election.Be prepared and ready.Keep your powder dry.
The nation as a whole needs to be on the offensive more with laws. We have to stop calling defenses against further tyranny “wins” and start matching leftists blow for blow. AWB? Defeat it and introduce a bill to repeal NFA. Mag cap? Defeat it, demand recalls, introduce bill for nationwide carry. Confiscation? Defeat it and demand the politician who introduced it, and all who supported it, be arrested for treason or at the very least removed from office for failure to uphold their oaths.
None of these would likely ever stick, but if they’re busy defending, they can’t attack.
Teach traitorous politicians that there are consequences for their actions by making them fight on the legislative defensive. Make the war too costly and uncertain for them to keep fighting. Remember, for them it’s about morally-bankrupt power. For us, it’s about freedom and survival. We have more grit and determination than they do.
