The folks over at Cobalt Kinetics have been busy. Not just from a production standpoint but also from a design and development standpoint. This year at SHOT Show they are showing off an improved mechanism for their gun, a new form factor, and a custom set of guns for a good cause.

Not satisfied with the first generation of their “Double Drop” design they have been making minor improvements and tweaks over the last year and are close to releasing an updated version to the market. Now included is an “OFF” switch, allowing the shooter to decide whether they want the firearm to function like a standard AR-15 or use the Double Drop mechanism. Also added will be a “reset” button just in case something happens with the mechanism.

New for 2017 is a factory SBR version of their rifle in 300 AAC Blackout. Limited to 100 units for 2017, the rifle has all the usual Cobalt Kinetics features and sports a 1:8 twist threaded barrel. The addition of a suppressor to the front end of this monster would definitely make it a quiet but deadly beast.

Last but not least CK has partnered with the Chris Kyle foundation to produce a limited run of four rifle designs. Proceeds from the sales go to support the Chris Kyle foundation, and there are only 500 of these rifles being produced in calibers and configurations that Taya Kyle confirms were Chris’ preference.
