New York Police Chief Ray Kelly has been tapping into all the latest news on the Aurora cinema shooting, no doubt looking for a potential terror link. But while it’s still very early days, it appears that – like Jared Loughner and Anders Breivik before him – James Holmes is just a seriously malf’d lone wacko. And it appears this one storyboarded his own Batman scene. “’We have some information, most of it is public. It clearly looks like a deranged individual. He had his hair painted red, he said he was ‘The Joker,’ obviously the ‘enemy’ of Batman,’ Kelly said at a news conference Friday.” And cbslocal.com says he plans to guard against potential copycatters by putting NYPD officers in theaters screening The Dark Knight Rises throughout the five boroughs. “Nassau County police have also increased patrols, which include canine units, emergency services personnel and members of the department’s special operations unit, at area theaters on Long Island.”

  1. Why does the NYPD need to take extra precautions. NYC is a gun-free utopia, so no one need fear gun violence. Gun bans solve everything, right?

  2. is this the same nypd that fired 41 rounds in a small vestibule at a man armed with his wallet and mostly missed?

    • +1. I thought of the same quote.

The guy was a college drop-out and obviously wasn’t in his right mind. I’m sure more details will emerge, but the fact is that there are some seriously disturbed people out there…

  3. I just heard on that 9News Live stream that Anonymous linked that he was “fully armored, down to the tactical gloves that he was wearing. Tactical helmet, body armor, leg protectors, groin protector, the whole works. He was clearly expecting to have some resistance.”

He also said that the police are being very tight-lipped about what he said to them once he was in custody, or how they think he gained access through that emergency door.

    • Until I hear officially I’m treating the body armor reports as quite dubious. Would most movie goers, especially ones being shot at, be able to differentiate between body armor and someone just wearing black tacticool vest and clothes?

      • I believe the comments the reporter was making were coming from the police themselves, as he was making a distinction between what they would tell him (body armor) and what they wouldn’t (statements and means of access).

On the other hand, there’s nothing whatsoever wrong with reserving judgment.

  4. Why is the NYPD Police Chief discussing facts of case that happened 1780 miles from his jurisdiction?

  5. Look for ATF to exclude gun purchases from anyone who has ever portrayed a malevolent comic book character.

This will give Kelley his chance to be Commissioner Gordon. Instead of millions in Fed G funding for counter-terrorism, he needs a Billionaire hero. Oh wait, that’s Bloomberg, aka BatBloom. By day he prevents evil against your waistline! By night he…???

  6. People have to stop calling these criminals “crazy”. Aren’t crazy people unable to control their behavior? I think people like this are fully aware of their actions prior and during.

I don’t think it is healthy for society just to label these criminals as crazy people…

  7. “Colorado ‘Batman’ Shooter Called Himself The Joker”

I guess the title “Crazy-Ass Motherfukcing POS” was taken.

  8. I didn’t realize Aurora CO was in the NYPD’s sphere of concern. I guess I was wrong.

  9. I guess everyone is getting interviewed for this!
Evil yes, deranged, yes, crazy no….
I am sure he was aware of what he was doing was wrong. If he was calling himself the Joker, and we read the comics, especially the dark night series, it explains a lot.
None the less this could have happened at any time, anywhere. The place and timing were the gunman’s.

  10. Colorado Batman shooting shows obvious signs of being staged

“There is already conjecture that James Holmes may have been involved in mind-altering neuroscience research and ended up becoming involved at a depth he never anticipated. His actions clearly show a strange detachment from reality, indicating he was not in his right mind. That can only typically be accomplished through drugs, hypnosis or trauma (and sometimes all three).

“His behavior already reveals stark inconsistencies that question the mainstream explanation of events. For example, he opened fire on innocent people but then calmly surrendered to police without resistance. This is not consistent with the idea of “killing everyone.”

“Furthermore, he then admitted to police that his apartment was booby-trapped with explosives. If you were really an evil-minded Joker trying to kill people (including cops), why would you warn them about the booby trap in advance? It doesn’t add up.”

  11. Looks like Bloomberg’s private army is sticking its nose into other people’s business again. What’s the matter guys, getting bored imposing your thuggery and oppression on your own pathetic people?

  12. How long wil it be before the cops, watching batman over and over and over again, become batshit crazy and then…..who knows what might happen? We’ll have a sequel perhaps, Revenge of the Joker.
