‘You shouldn’t have had a firearm here. After this is done he needs to be escorted off the property. He’s not welcome back here.” That was the reaction of an un-named General Motors employee after Didarul Sarder used his lawfully concealed handgun to safe the life of Stephanie Kerr after she’d been attacked and stabbed multiple times by another woman at GM’s technical center in Warren, Michigan earlier this week. Sarder was a valet for a subcontractor at the GM facility when the incident occurred. And while Government Motors may not think much of his decision to carry on the job (in Detroit…go figure), the local mayor and police chief have good things to say about him . . .

Police and Mayor of Warren Jim Fouts say Sarder is a hero who should be honored.

“Had it not been for his quick action and quick thinking, pulling out his concealed weapon, she might have been murdered on site,” Fouts said.

Despite being out of work, Sarder told fox2detroit that he has no regrets.

“I would do it all over again,” he said. “If I could save this woman’s life over a job. I can get another job.”

        “Jill Nagel, spokeswoman for the Chicago-based valet service SP+ Corp., which contracts with GM, said Thursday that Sarder “is not nor was he ever terminated.” She said Sarder was placed on suspension per company policy — although she did not know if it was with or without pay — until the incident is investigated internally.

        Green said Thursday that police understood that Sarder’s employer is keeping him, but he will not be back at GM. Nagel said the decision on whether to keep Nagel at GM has not been determined.

        GM spokesman Michael Albano said GM’s policy is that it does not permit firearms on any GM property.”

        So, he still has a job.

        • Here’s the deal with that: if that particular company only works with GM in that region (which is a fairly common thing for many subcontractors) then he will either have to move to a new state or find a new job. I have worked as a subcontractor for a major corp. If they say you’re gone, you’re gone unless you have preferential treatment in your company. Also if he suspended without pay that’s about as good as fired since he has no income.

        • so i guess up there in the rust belt, among dying cities, letting someone be attacked and killed is always the proper, safe, politically correct thing to do. yet them that live up there think that is the hallmark of social justice. unfortunately, the last few years we have seen a wave of them fleeing there and bringing that nonsense here.

      • ^^^This. I’ve been giving $15 or $20 to gun-owners in need through sites like this. The Ohio Buckeye Firearms guy whose house burnt down got $15,000 in a week from Gun owners and NRA members.

        We need more positive influence like that.

    For some reason they’re worried about the liability of a workplace shooting, but not killing people with ignition switches. Go figure.

    • Not only that, but their unarmed, contracted security is a joke. They can’t even keep competitors with cameras out of their facilities. I never trusted them to keep guns out, which is why I always carried on the proving grounds when I briefly worked for them.

  7. He has not been fired, he has just been reassigned to a different site. GM contracted out the valet. Yes, GM sucks. NO, he didn’t lose his job. For goodness’ sake TTAG, do a little bit of journalistic research before hitting the “post” button.

So this happened in Warren, not Detroit, about 13 miles between the two, and if this had happened at Ford or FIAT Chrysler or any other large company it would have been exactly the same same result. Not sure why everyone is shocked that he got canned. Yes, he’s the hero, no question, but it’s a posted “Criminal Entitlement Zone”, you break the rule, you pay the price.

    EDIT: My wife works at the GM Tech Center, and she said more people were worked up about the guy having a gun, rather than mother and daughter in a knife assult.

    • She must have been well liked at work that her coworkers would have rather seen her dead than saved by a guy with a gun.

    • Considering that it is clear that your wifes co-workers would rather see her dead then saved by a man with CCW I think I might suggest she find better work.

If you read this carefully, you will see that this guy did not work for GM, but for one of their vendors, and he may even have been a subcontractor providing transportation services to the vendor. GM did not fire him. At the most, they initially asked him (maybe ordered him) to leave the premises, where the shooting occurred. It’s not even clear, if the person who asked him to leave even had the authority to make this decision. If he was fired, it was by the contract vendor or their subcontractor, so go ahead and boycott S+Valet.

      Pretty amazing that the GM employee has more hatred for lawful gun owners than caring for the saving of a person’s life. – And he is immediately ready to embrace more victims of such with his ridiculous actions.

    • GM would rather the victim have died from the attack.

      What do you expect from a company that would rather have its customers die than replace a faulty ignition switch?

      I suspect he will get some job offers from a more enlightened company because of this…

    • Yup, someone with sense and a bit of savvy took over. BUT the lesson remains… you are only allowed to have a gun if you happen to use it at that second to save someone’s life. Otherwise you’re fired.

      • My last actual job prohibited employees from carrying. I carried anyway. Every day. All the time. Because you are only allowed to have a gun if you don’t get caught. And if you do get caught, you lose your job but get to keep your freedom.

      • All you guys are bagging on GM for being anti gun. I’d be willing to bet every major auto manufacturer has the same gun policy regarding its property. What’s everybody going to do, walk or ride a bicycle everywhere? Wait, I’ll bet Schwinn has same policy. Wait, Nike probably does too. You wind up boycotting every single company. Just carry everywhere and don’t give a crap about what any company, gov’t, person, entity has to say.

In my humblest of opinions, the world is getting worse and worse and this type of thing will happen more and more- In that, I mean assaults and attempted murders and robberies and random attacks by lions and tigers and bears (wait for it …….. keep waiting ….. ok now….. OH MY!) are only going to increase and “random people” aka innocent sheeples are going to be suffering these incidents more and more (one goes up the other obviously goes up, because they’re the same ….) So there will hopefully be plenty more good guys (and gals) able to provide help – lifesaving help , such as this gentleman provided, via the barrel of his firearm….. – and eventually the antis will see, the only thing that stops a bad guy (or gal! in this case especially!) is a good guy (or gal) with a gun!

  38. Both of my GM vehicles are beyond used (my C1500 is 26 years old, the Bravada is 18), and bought from private sellers. So GM didn’t get a dime from their purchase.

    The company I work for welcomes conceal or open carriers, as long as they’re not employees. Employees aren’t allowed to have firearms on the property at any time. Not locked up in their locked vehicle, not carried when off the clock and out of uniform, whether they posses a license to carry or not. It’s instant termination if discovered.

    Anyone with an ounce of sense would be bragging that at their job place, employees protect other employees against violence.

  41. Nothing personal about you all who think GM is in the wrong, but…… I worked for a GM division 35-40 yrs ago and also worked for a company that carried out a specific service for GM. Some of those employees are the last people who need or would you desire to have firearms. I’m sure many did have them in their vehicles. At the time, GM did not necessarily hire to most upstanding people at some of their plants. Working day in and day out breathing oily fumes, or fine sand particles, or pouring molten metal for twenty-five or thirty years (retirement time) and doing it in a variety of weather conditions, subzero temps to hot boiling summer days (and the interior of the plants are at their hottest during the second shift). And then you have someone pissed off at a fellow employee for last nights card game, pool game, or porking his wife. Yeah, they may bring in a weapon, but you surely don’t want it with them legally. I’m all for concealed carry, but maybe, just not in all places.
