The interview above is with the author of The Blood of Lambs. Here’s a related news article [via cbn.com]: “A Gaza-based terrorist opened fire with a heavy machine gun earlier this week, damaging two civilian cars parked outside a restaurant in a shopping area in Kibbutz Yad Mordechai. No one was killed or injured in the attack. Several bullets embedded themselves in a car baby seat that undoubtedly would have brought tragedy had the baby been in it. In the second car, bullets went through the roof and hit the dashboard. The owner said he would probably have been killed had he been in the car. After examining the 15-mm (0.5-caliber) ammunition embedded in the restaurant wall, the vehicles and several adjacent shops, police concluded the gunman used a heavy-duty machine gun with a longer range than the standard 12.7-mm weapons.”

  1. Not an expert on .50 caliber ammunition but isn’t 12.7mm equal to 0.5 in.? Wouldn’t 15mm be closer to a 0.60 caliber round?

    • Really close since 15 mm = 0.59,055,118 inches. So if you rounded it would be .59 caliber. Doing the math 12.7 mm = 0.5 inches. Everything I found on the subject indicates 0.5 inches = .50 caliber.

  2. possibly the 14.5 mike mike. a russian weapon and that seems to be the type they prefer in that part of the world. simple works.

  3. Well, they use what they can find. There have been some 15mm machine guns around since ww2. But my guess, it’s a 14.5mm russian KPV. I am just wondering about the distance he fired from. The 14.5mm has roughly twice the kinetic energy of a 50BMG and would go through a car like butter.

    • Article says he fired from Gaza, and that the end point was not visible from the strip. We have the modern equivalent of “I shot an arrow into the air, it fell to earth I know not where.” Something like, I shot my machine gun into the air, the bullets fell to earth I care not where.

    • I think it depends on which camp people belong too.

“It is from such warlike pronouncements as these that Islamic scholarship divides the world into dar al-Islam (the House of Islam, i.e., those nations who have submitted to Allah) and dar al-harb (the House of War, i.e., those who have not).”

    • I never met a violent Sufi. On the other hand, there are a few Methodists out there that I wouldn’t trust with a butter knife.

  4. I stopped watching the video about a minute in when the host said “…you are smuggling a cache of weapons…” and pronounced it kash-ay. Did I miss anything?
