A Michigan Congressman present at this morning’s attack by a Bernie Sanders supporter from Illinois says that a gun saved their lives. Rep. Mike Bishop described himself and his fellow Republicans as “sitting ducks” for the would-be murderer and political assassin armed with a rifle. He credited a good guy with a gun for saving their lives.
He told WWJ News Radio:
βThe only reason why any of us walked out of this thing, by the grace of God, one of the folks here (security detail traveling with Scalise) had a weapon to fire back and give us a moment to find cover. We were inside the backstop and if we didnβt have that cover by a brave person who stood up and took a shot themselves, we would not have gotten out of there and every one of us would have been hit β every single one of us,β said Bishop.Β βHe was coming around the fence line and he was looking for all of us who had found cover in different spots. But if we didnβt have return fire right there, he would have come up to each one of us and shot us point-blank.β
Rep. Bishop said what we all already know: The only thing that stops bad people with evil in their hearts is a good guy with a gun. He’s right: Thank the good Lord for the presence of a good guy with a gun.
Had there not been an armed good guy present, we’d almost surely be talking about a mass assassination. In the end, a brave police officer armed with only a sidearm took the shooter out. If Rep. Steve Scalise and other Congressmen hadn’t been present with the other Congressional staffers today, there would have been no armed security on site and the situation would have been far worse.
Tommorrow. . .
“We need to ban guns!”
Ban democrats

What “a good guy with a gun” translates to in the heat of the moment is less time a killer has to casually stalk defenseless victims. At Sandy Hook, he had five minutes. In Orlando, he had three hours. Here, he apparently had seconds.
Time is the killer. Let’s minimize it.
ABC.
A = always
B = be
C = carrying
ABC, Always be carrying. Don’t be a sitting duck.
Coffee is for carriers.
Channel 9 News in our area just had on the Democratic and Republican Congressman speaking to the Press about the shooting this morning in the baseball field. Right when they were both talking about had they not had an armed detail they would have all been killed Channel 9 News cut it and went to some other story. Typical liberal media don’t want to put out that a good guy with a gun actually saved over 20 people.
“If Rep. Steve Scalise and other Congressmen hadnβt been present with the other Congressional staffers today, there would have been no armed security on site and the situation would have been far worse.”
What is being presented by the MSM is that the shooter was there ONLY BECAUSE he knew Republican congressmen were going to be there. Otherwise, maybe no shooting at all. But then, of course, the shooter would have picked another target rich location with R. congressionals. Coulda been much much worse.
BTW- why is the MSM so slow to ID and report on the two good guys?
Could it be it doesn’t fit the narrative?
Especially if one of them is female, as I was told.
“Rep. Bishop said what we all already know: The only thing that stops bad people with evil in their hearts is a good guy with a gun. Heβs right: Thank the good Lord for the presence of a good guy with a gun.”
This is the spark to light the fire of 50 state reciprocity.
*WE* control the House, Senate, and White House. We have the votes.
What beautiful Karma it would be if it was a deranged Leftist thug gets us nationwide carry.
π π π
Last time I checked, there were enough votes in the House, but not enough in the Senate to avoid a filibuster. It takes 60 to override a filibuster, and I think at present there are only 55-58 votes. It is for this reason that it has not progressed beyond the Judiciary committee since late February.
“…not enough in the Senate to avoid a filibuster.”
WHAT filibuster, Mark?
Do you mean the one Harry Reid threw in the trash to enact Obama’s agenda?
We warned you, Harry Reid. Killing the filibuster would bite you in the ass one day.
You weren’t worried because you arrogantly believed we would never hold power again.
Surprise! π
(Perhaps we can tack it onto the ‘Sportsman’s Act’ ?)
Mark is talking about the filibuster on legislation that Mitch McConnell said he would not get rid of.
Dems had enough to filibuster FOPA which the gun control group opposed.
Reciprocity provides a uniquely useful argument. The gun control groups keep saying they just want a system like drivers licenses.
Now sure, they could balk at states that allow no license carry or ones that don’t have background and some training for carry;
But the huge majority of carriers are from shall issue states that do have background checks and a training requirement. Virginia does. The gun control advocates would have to drink the shut up when they try and explain why Virginia carry license holders should not be allowed to carry in Maryland.
If done properly DC would have to recognize DC or Maryland residents who get Virginia non resident. To get a Virginia non resident carry you have to submit to a fingerprint based background check and prove some training.
If this is not the best indication that national concealed carry reciprocity is not needed I don’t know what it could possibly be.
I’m sorry, but this is confusing. Please clarify..
If history is any indication, things are more likely to go the opposite way. Historically, there are really two things that spur gun control: the prospect of revolution, and the threat of assassination. From Scotland’s 1747 Act of Proscription to the 1993 Brady Act, the pattern is remarkably consistent. They really couldn’t care less if you or I are targeted by a deranged gunman and don’t get to have our own private security detail, for most of the ruling class the world over, we’re just bullet absorbers.
National reciprocity is too timid a step in this environment. We need national constitutional carry NOW! Our lawmakers should have been able to defend themselves. No excuse for (gun free) government sanctioned killing zones any more.
Lets hope our lawmakers see this, and take the initiative to pass legislation which once and for all fully restore our God given, and constitutional rights to keep and bear arms, and to defend OURSELVES against all enemies, foreign and domestic
Don’t Congress people basically get a free pass to carry?
If so, it’s their own damn fault for not doing so. And as GOP’ers, they really should have put their money where their mouths are.
US Constitution, Article 1, Section 6, Paragraph 2.
Congress critters can carry while in-session and while traveling to and from Congress (unless their own rules prohibit it)
Democrat’s have started a kill list of enemies! Democrats party operatives are duping simple minded people into horrible act’s because of their Vitriol and lies against the Republicans! the War has begun! Between the Shuck and Jive no load wanta be King former president and his politicization of the American Bureaucracy’s and the Demon-cratic party playing their hate games with Trump it’s time too Gear up, be ready Exorcism of Demon-cat’s is warranted
Look at that bucket of BP baseballs. Hell even the MLB doesn’t practice with pearls like that. Where are the balls from last year? We need a balance budget amendment STAT!
Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. Ergo, guns don’t save lives, people save lives. In this instances trained LEOs.
Trained and armed. When defending against bad men with guns, training alone isn’t enough. I think WLP said it right.
Here is how I see it. Articles from Illinois say that wacko had a violent history yet had a FOID card and purchased his weapons legally from gun stores. That obliterates the argument that background checks do a damn thing. And he was a Trump-hater, so there is no political route the Dems can take. That leaves the obvious target, so to speak, the 30 round “assault rifle” clipazine in his “Norinco SKS 7.62 (Chinese variant of an AK47)” that “sprayed” bullets at the ballpark, all as reported by CNN. They will without a doubt re-introduce a ban on the evil 30 rounder, and if the SKS was in an evil adjustable stock, add that one too. It will be defeated, but it will be their campaign mascot in 2018. Terrified as they are that Congressmen can be the target, the instant the Dems have control again in Washington, which will happen at some point, they will go after “assault weapons” and “hi-capacity clips” relentlessly. My prediction is that most Republicans, terrified as they are that they were the actual targets, will vote along with the Dems. I had put out of my head the idea of buying a cheap AR that I really don’t need to go with the other one that I really didn’t need but bought anyway when it looked like Hilde would win. The idea is back in my head. Along with buying more clipazines, both high and low capacity.
Meanwhile, Governor McAuliffe claimed while talking to the press that, “We lose 93 million Americans a day to gun violence.” Then he said it again, like 30 seconds later! He said it twice! Two times!
That’s a third of the fucking country! If my math serves me, then the whole country will be dead in three days. Stay indoors.
John Boch, I don’t know if you’re going to read this, but that’s a dead ringer for tomorrow’s quote of the day. Just sayin’.
McAuliffe is a political hack.
But he’s like Uncle Joe Biden when it comes to gaffes.
John
