We’ve mentioned Texas Armoring and their demos before. In fact Nick and Tyler toured their facility to see how the Texas coachworks makes vehicles that ensure the safety of third world potentates, oligarchs, and anyone else who may be a little bit gun-shy. This latest promo isn’t really any more impressive than say, this one other than the inside-the-SUV GoPro shot of the head honcho’s flinch-free performance under fire. You’ve got to really trust your glass supplier (or your pharmacist) to stay that calm, cool and collected while looking down the barrel of an AK. We probably don’t need to remind you not to try this at home, kids. But just in case, don’t try this at home.
I saw this today. Cool…
Do we know that they are not shooting 123gr reloads with 5 or 8 grains of RL-7? You could make this pretty comfortable, if you were so inclined…
Still, in all, pretty cool.
Would the action of the AK even cycle with that?
Anyway it sounded full power to me.
Would it even cycle with that load?
Dollars to donuts says they were at least soft points rather than FMJ. I’d prefer HP to FMJ and soft lead noses to anything else except maybe frangible haha
I knew plenty of guys who looked down the barrel of an AK. For some of them, it was the last thing they ever saw. I don’t believe that I’d choose to share any part of that experience.
With the volume all the way up, you can hear the guy’s brass balls clanking together as he walks.
Nah. That the sound of empty atavan, klonopin, xanax and Valium containers tapping against a flask that previously held a few ounces of single malt 18 year old scotch.
Yeah. Far bigger balls than mine…
I wonder if they warrant their glass against .BMG HE or AP…
Haha, I tried it. I heard it too. It sounds more like the rocks in his head clanking to me…..
Most demos I’ve seen of “bullet-proof” glass, the shooter was noticeably careful to avoid putting two rounds in the same location. They usually sweep across the windshield without concentrating fire. That wasn’t done here. And in a real world scenario, it’s unlikely there would be multiple impacts at one point. These were pretty close and very impressive.
Still stupid but still impressive.
Did we watch the same vid? I saw nothing even remotely close to a group. Other than spray-n-pray.
He was very careful not to put them even close to each other. The whole point of armored protection is to allow the potential vic to run like hell after the first round strikes. Park that car in place for 20 seconds and let someone who can hit the broad side of a barn plug away with a mag of 7.63×39? They’ll be through that low-level windshield within 5 shots, and then spraying away through that hole. It wouldn’t have repelled even 2 rounds in a (pathetic at that range) with a pathetic 2 inch group.
On the lower portion of the windshield near the center a round hits very close to the spot a round had already hit. Well within the opaque circle that had been created by the first round.
Brass balls for sure.
Reminds me of the Chrysler commercial when air bags first came out.
Sheesh he put the first three rounds in a <12" group right in front of his boss in the car. What was that thing Farago said in the previous article? Avoid stupid people doont stupid things in stupid places?
Props to these guys for standing behind their product and all but man, put one into the passenger side first and then work across to the driver so he at least has time to get on the floor if the windshield fails.
What a PR propaganda joke. Less than 10 meters and can’t hold a sub 4″ group with an AK? Puhleeze. I can do better at 100M with open sights – and I’m not that good.
Either their boy can’t shoot better than my dog, or (as you can see in the vid) he is deliberately all over the place. A 30 round mag, and he didn’t punch an obvious hole in that pathetically cheap laminated ‘resistant’ glass within 5 rounds? He is not an actual threat.
Dude, chill.
Very little armor is tested against multiple strikes in the same place. That is simply beyond most test requirements. I’m sure if he WANTED to chew through, he could have. The guy appears to have been a decent shot – he places the first couple shots on his boss, then walked across the windshield, then back to his boss again. No rounds hit anything but the windshield. The somewhat “random” nature of the fire demonstrates that they weren’t just testing within a very narrow performance envelope – they would allow two hits very close to each other with confidence.
Also, can you do a 4″ group, from standing, rapid fire, with an AK? I don’t think so. According to Cooper, the Snapshot is a decent test of skill – it requires hitting a 4″ target at 25 yards from low ready within 1.5 second on command. It’s not easy.
> Also, can you do a 4″ group, from
> standing, rapid fire, with an AK
…against a presumably moving, swerving target…
Aside from not knowing what ammunition was used, this was an extremely illuminating test, with several hits overlapping to boot.
You’re just validating that this wasn’t a real test of anything, merely a marketing exercise for the poorly informed. Just a few days ago I was hanging out with friends and the 5 of us were all 4 (or 5) for 5 on a beer can at 100 meters. Open sights with a few AK variants and a few Mosins. 10 second limit. Several carbines in the Mosins. Standing up. None of us claim to be Jerry Miculek, because we know we aren’t. It just isn’t that frakkin’ hard to group that “tight”.
Were any of us be faced with that standing still target, that cheap laminated windshield would be penetrated at the driver’s head with a baseball group in right about 5 seconds. With a 1930’s Mosin. Let alone an AK. At 100 meters. At 10 meters? If one can’t empty that 30 round AK-47 mag in a ring the size of a basketball in under 15 seconds, one really needs some practice with the firearm.
99% of the glass laminates won’t survive even the most ham-fisted of attacks for more than two rounds placed on target with a grown-up round. That armor was maybe UL Level 5, which will stop one, just one, 7.62×51 (.308 Win) in any kind of group. Which is useless if you’re facing an actual trained threat that has shown up to “get” you.
Those cretins don’t know ALON from Alanis Morrissette, and I wouldn’t let those hucksters armour my lawnmower, because they are obviously just a bunch of amateurs, grandstanding for idiots with money. ‘Natch, people who know what to look for will always go to pros who comprehend this stuff…
Does your mommy know you are interacting with adults on the intrawebs thingy?
Yup. My “mommy” knows I do many things where I interface with retards – it pay her bills.
OK, she uses you to get HUD to pay her rent and the EBT card monied up each month. Got it.
Once again, do you have a factual refutation, or just some slobbering ad hominems? Oh, that’s right, you have nothing…
“factual refutation” OK, show us the sales records and success rate under fire for YOUR company that makes up armored civilian vehicles. What?!? You don’t have any? Why is that, sweety?
2hotel9 are you 12 or just completely indistinguishable from a 12 year old? Jeezus what an insufferable idiot you are. Get a new personality yours is not working.
Ah, 16v created a new usename so it can cry some more. Ain’t that precious!?!? Why don’t you tell us how 30 caliber is a “popgun” again, that shit was hi-larious.
1. Everyone can shoot 1/2 moa groups at 20,000 yards with iron sights, standing, and one handed on the Internet.
2. Shooting at a living human is 180 degrees out from shooting at paper. I think it would be safe to say everyone involved had a little adrenaline pumping, cut him some slack.
Ya know? I think people should watch that several times. His shots were well placed, and that area in the center took 4 rds quite close together. From the interior camera you can see the inner layer did not fracture, even after those 4 rds close together. That shooting is hard to criticize, at least by anyone who actually has shot at live targets. Much less your boss!
Still, are all the windows bullet resistant? Doors and body panels armored?
OK, got an answer! Yes, TAC does do the full monty on armoring. And they have fun doing it. Check them out on youtube.
“Well placed”? Seriously?
I presume you’re ex-mil by the handle, and that “group” would be acceptable in what part of training that you remember exactly? AKs shoot 5 inch groups at 100 meters. At 10? If one can’t draw a smiley face, one might want to consider another MOS.
I’m fully aware that I’m not all that good. But even I can triple-tap a baseball at 10M with an AK in under 3 seconds. Which would have at least one round through that cheap laminate windshield. And into the driver.
Seriously? No one thinks you are cooler for saying that. What you said is about as asinine as me commenting that the driver of the Benz must not be able to drive better than my 3 year old so because after all, even with the weight of armor, with nearly 600bhp AMG V8 on tap I would have flattened that a-hole who was shooting at me before he even got the third round off.
Pretty sure if he had wanted to he could have stacked the whole magazine on top of the same place and in the process killed his boss, but that doesnt really prove anything. The whole point of an up-armored car is to give you critical seconds to GTFO. Shooting the thing to failure with a person inside isnt very productive, and isnt representative of a real life scenario where that car woul dbe pedal to the metal ramming speed after the first round hits home. The fact that this windscreen took multiple hits (far more than would be likely in a real life scenario), some overlapping even, from spitting distance no less with a live human being inside seems to go against your whole “cheap” argument.
Soooo.’Threat Analysis’ means that they act exactly as you want them to act, not like any trained assassin would actually act. Got it.
Working for “Homeland Security”?
No PSD is going to sit still in one place and let you shoot out their windows. They are either manuevering away on run-flats (“getting off the x”) or they are going to call in a Counter Assault Team (CAT) to engage you.
LOL. The only glass or potential glass you are sitting behind is your computer monitor, ripping on the shooter and discussing how much better you are in a semi-self deprecating manner that is fully self serving.
What I dont read is your willingness to get in the front seat of that benz, sit their, avoid flinching, and take rounds.
He didn’t have to flinch, his ‘shooter’ did it for him by never placing a round anywhere close to the last shot. I could be hammer drunk and kill him with 5 rounds of 7.62×39 at that range. 3 will knock out that junk laminate glass, the other two will penetrate the target.
You’re right. I’d never get in that piece of retard-built junk against an actual threat. Or someone who could shoot better than a 6 year-old. I know what that level of cheap armour is worth.
And he wasn’t even wearing his brown pants.
After watching some AK47 penetration videos, I have to say that self-preservation would preclude me from letting someone intentionally shoot one in my direction.
The next version will have double-pane windows…..
Actually, the real trick if your windshield gets shot like that is to keep driving — visibility appears to be moderately impaired, after all!
Because it’s crap armor, from amateurs.
ALON doesn’t perform like that…
Hey, I have the same car down in my garage. I bet I can do the same thing…
Ah crap! I just ruined my Mercedes.
What a job, you get to shoot at your boss!
There is a company here in Butler County PA that makes “bullet proof” glass, got to shoot up a chunk a couple of years ago using 7.62 NATO FMJs. Sure as sh*t they did not penetrate. Could not see through it any more, none went through.
My real first question, is the firewall armored? Are the doors and body panels? Contrary to TV and movies car doors do not stop bullets, and fire through the engine compartment sprays all manner of shrapnel and fragments through the passenger cabin.
You do realize 7.62 NATO is a pop-gun round, yes?
Wow, you really are a self important little twat, aren’t you? Here is a hint, pull your panties out of your crack, unplug the computer and stumble out into reality. You may eventually find a clue, sweety.
I’m a “self important little twat” who actually knows what happens when a round is fired, not some dilettante living in fantasy land.
Ahhh, you gonna cry now? Come on, sweety, squeeze out some tears for us!
Cry? No, but it’s obvious that you are about to. Seriously, a weak ad hominem is all ya got kid?
Ah, did mommy bring it a hotpocket and wipe its tears away. Aren’t you a special little snow flake!
Sweet!
Do they come in non-yuppie vehicle models…?
Texas holds 1/4 of the America pick-up truck market share… I know some good old boys with a crap ton of money who wouldn’t be caught dead in a Mercedes SUV.
Pun intended.
TAC will armor just about anything you want.

Now that’s what I’m talking about!
This lady laughs at your puny “test”: http://youtu.be/M7mr7CK7zEk
Here y’all go, enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/user/armoredvehicles?feature=hovercard
This is almost as cool as the bulletproof hairspray I invented.
I liked the whole “men in black” atmosphere. And I’d be hiring them to bullet proof my ride if I needed such work done. I like doing business with folks that stand, or in this case sit behind their product.
