California Senator Barbara Boxer sees last week’s shooting in Santa Monica as a boon for anti-gun groups. During an interview on MSNBC, after the obligatory sad-faced “our thoughts and prayers go out to the families” statement, she let us know exactly where her thoughts really are: on gun control. It didn’t take her long to wave the Sandy Hook bloody shirt, then said the Santa Monica shooting will help the gun control movement because “it gives us wind at our back.” That should help offset all the hot air coming out of her front and keep her from falling over. And at the same time, across the nation in Jersey . . .
Last week, the New Jersey Assembly Law & Public Safety Committee failed to muster enough votes to pass S2723/A4182 out of committee. The bill throws out existing FID cards and replaces them with either a privacy-invading driver license endorsement or other form of ID; suspends Second Amendment rights without proof of firearms training; imposes a 7-day waiting period for handgun purchases; ends all private sales; and effectively creates a registry of ammunition purchases and long gun sales. Democrats had touted the bill as a national model. But as soon as they realized they didn’t have enough votes to get it out of committee, they illegally stopped the roll-call vote and tabled the bill. Now it appears that they’ve figured out how to get it passed.
The bill is scheduled to be heard in the Assembly Budget Committee next Monday, even though it’s not a budgetary bill. This committee is made up of eight Democrats and four Republicans, which explains why they’re doing their do-over there. This may be politics as usual in New Jersey, but voters there should be up in arms over how the political process has been subverted by all of this.
In Denton, Texas, shooters are taking to helicopters for target practice. Helicoptersniper.com is offering “the ultimate opportunity to test and challenge your marksmanship skills as you fly through various obstacles while shooting from a Helicopter” and describes it as “the ultimate video game.” Area residents aren’t too happy with the venture, claiming they’re turning their neighborhoods into a “war zone. ” According to WFAA.com, “Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration and Denton County said the helicopter target practice is perfectly legal. The neighbors are frustrated and say they may have no choice but to go to court.” Personally I’d tell anyone who says they want to “test and challenge [their] marksmanship skills … while shooting from a Helicopter” to join the Army or Marines. They’ll give you lots of chances to do just that.
In a suburb of Atlanta, a 14-year-old girl was shot Monday afternoon. Her 18-year-old brother said they were going door-to-door selling candy when someone in a white sedan shot her once in the stomach. She substantiated his story. However, on Tuesday, police released a statement that said the “shooting actually occurred at the victim’s house…It appears at this time that the victim was shot by her 18-year-old brother while he was playing with a gun.” The investigation continues, but both siblings could now face criminal charges.
Australia is a country the antis love to cite as an exemplar of gun control. As an Australian state, the island of Tasmania is subject to the same gun laws. But while Australia doesn’t seem likely to change any time soon, Tasmania is taking another look at some of their laws pertaining to gun registration and compliance. According to licensed gun owner Larry Collinson, “The experiment has failed…The only people being punished are the law-abiding citizens, and the Tasmanian taxpayer is forking out $2.2 million a year to police a pointless policy.” The Tasmanian cabinet is working on firearm reforms that would relax a lot of the regulation and barely enforceable laws. Mr. Collinson said of the laws, “If you’re going to commit a crime with a gun, you don’t get your shooting licence, a permit to acquire, and a legally approved firearm, do you?” From his lips to the US gun control crowd’s ears.
Civil liberties attorney John Whitehead, founder of the Rutherford Institute, claims the NSA is “systematically monitoring the Internet posts and telephone conversations of U.S. military returning from Afghanistan.” He said they’re looking for “anti-Obama views that can be interpreted to reflect psychological problems of sufficient seriousness to disqualify the veteran from ever owning a firearm,” and that “the FBI and the Secret Service are showing up to request an interview to question specific Internet posts the veteran has placed on websites such as Facebook.” He recommends “veterans being visited by the FBI or the Secret Service to take the Fifth Amendment rather than answer questions that might end up with a diagnosis of PTSD, post-traumatic stress disorder, which goes into the veteran’s file and can be used in the future to prevent the veteran from purchasing a firearm.”

That last article is very sobering. It seems that systemic marginalization, even criminalization, of those not in favor of our current administration may be more of a norm than an exception.
What type of people are actually on board with this stuff to enforce it?
You have to wonder, don’t you? Although, I am sure there are many agencies involved and it may be difficult to see the big picture when in the middle of it, especially if the average agent/flunkie is not looking for it. Still, many people higher up surely know exactly what is going on and are just letting it slide, or even promoting it.
Nobody can stand by themselves against a policy from higher up. They’ll lose their job and livelihood. It’s far easier to just rationalize that it “must be for a good reason” and go along. This is how governments have enforced evil for thousands of years, even though few citizens would actually say “Slavery? Sounds cool, where do I sign up?”

That last part about the returning vets is true. My combat vet LT got kicked out of the Army for the “Don’t ask Don’t Tell” policy back in 2008. He posted a picture of The Adjutant General of the Illinois Army Guard (the man that kicked him out) on his FB page and put a caption under it that said, “This man does not care about his Soldiers”.
Within a week, FBI agents knocked on his door to question him about his “Threating” FB post about the General. He could not believe the Fed Gov was there. He told them to, “Pound Sand”. And this was in 2008!!! Who knows what they are doing now!
I am a veteran, and I HATE what the current politicians are doing.. Taking our rights, and stuffing them down the garbage disposal. All too often the veterans actually see what other governments around the world are like when the population is unarmed and afraid of their government. It is no wonder why the Feds are afraid of the veterans speaking out here… they don’t want the non-veterans knowing how all that started in other countries, so that no one has any real idea of how close we are getting here to the same models…

That piece of video about the New Jersey bill is the most blatant example of purposeful subversion of the legislative process that I’ve ever personally witnessed. I know they play games with the rules all the time, but that’s the kind of thing that should be remembered, and publicized, and brought back to haunt them come election time. Even if I was in favor of the bill, I’m not in favor of getting it done illegally.
How about passing Obamacare through budget reconciliation when they didn’t have a budget? I’m still shaking my head over that one.

I think it is interesting that Tasmania is the Australian state wanting to do away with strict gun control. The major anti-gun push in Australia happened after a Newtown-like event (Port Arthur Massacre) in Tasmania, so I’d assume that they would hold onto the hope of gun-control stronger than the other states.
That being said, I’m glad my 6month stint in Australia will be done next week 😀
I imagine Tasmania has a frontier mentality and a familiarity with guns that overwhelms the tendency to fear the scary-looking guns they don’t understand. I genuinely hope they prevail, as the Canadians have, in doing away with some gun control measures but I think the chances are slim.
Canada has rolled back some of their registration too, even as the Progs here push to go down that failed path.

I live in California, so I get to hear these:
You want more then 10 rounds? Go join the Army.
You want a AK or AR without a bullet button? Go join the Army.
You want any rifle with a pistol grip or thumb hole stock? Go join the Army.
You want to pack a gun (concealed) to protect your self and others in the city? Go join the Army.
You want to pack a unloaded gun (openly) in the woods, just in case? Go join the Army.
You want to transport your gun in a car/truck that has no locking trunk, you will be a felon! Go join the Army.
Threaded barrel? Go join the Army.
Shoulder thing that goes up? Go join the Army.
And soon all my 10/30 mags will be illegal, along with my bullet button equipped rifles, and even my Ruger 10/22 will have to be a registered soon. I have zero faith in the state assembly to stop these laws.
So if someone can afford to rent helicopter and shoot targets, I don’t see the problem. I have to get my kicks shooting soda cans filled with water because that is what I can afford. Anytime you discharge a firearm you run the same risks, be it from a helicopter or from my backyard into a soda can. The 4 Rules of safety always apply.
I know for a fact, if some one tried to shove the restrictions I have to bear down your throat, you will scream bloody murder.
In closing, UP YOURS! I have had it up mine all my life and its set to get worse. The last place I expected to see this type of sentiments was here. Just so you know, DiFi and Boxer agree with you, Go join the Army.
P.S. I do plan to leave this god forsaken hell hole, but moving your life ain’t cheap, and I do have a good job – very rare commodity these days. So in the mean time I will brace myself for further violations of my rights… Besides, all the CA residents having to register their 10/22s will probably collapse this already bankrupt state anyways. Here is to hope!
I say let the CA legislators pass every single anti gun measure, tax us to 65-70 % of our earnings and let this state slide into bankruptcy. Then as a last gasp measure release all the prisoners (to redirect funds to state salaries an pensions) on a disarmed population. Only then will California utopia transformation be complete

Guess how many fellow infantrymen I know who have had the opportunity to shoot from a moving helicopter?
Zero.
In fact the only person I know who has fired out of a moving helicopter is a helicopter pilot and a crew chief on a machine gun mounted to the helicopter.
Special Operations do helicopter borne shooting in training, and I am sure they do it down range as well. But the other 99.9% of soldiers and Marines have to leave their weapons Amber in birds (mag seated, no round in chamber) while flying in country.
If you want to shoot guns for fun, stay out of the military or man up and go special operations. But even then, your chances of getting to shoot out of helicopters is…well…slim. Something about a million pieces flying in close formation and bullets being bad for avionics and rotor blades and such.
Cmon guys. Go pay those brilliant texans and smile while you shoot your gun instead of dreading 5 days of cleaning your M4’s bluing off.
