You want Weapons of War®? We got yer Weapons of War® right here. That noted Second Amendment bastion, the New York Daily News, is pulling out all the stops today to subtly make the point that there’s really no valid reason for AR platform rifles ‘Newtown weapons’ to exist. Assuming his customary position and jumping on the pile with his usual brand of nuance and thoughtful analysis is respected firearms expert, Mike Lupica: “They call semiautomatics like this sport rifles. You bet. Mostly for the sport of killing innocent people, and killing them fast.” But Mike seems to have missed a news nugget . . .

Alleged shooter Aaron Alexis – who was involved in two prior shooting incidents, but not prosecuted – went into the Navy Yard yesterday with only a legally purchased shotgun BAPDI (Biden-Approved Personal Defense Implement). According to nbcnews.com, he then took “the sidearm from a police officer he shot and another from a gunsafe or other secure location.” So  assuming the report is correct – and yes, it’s still very much early days – in addition to the pistol he took from the cop he downed, Alexis had access to military-owned weapons stored on-site.

Oh, and given their experience with fellow contractor Edward Snowden, maybe the mega-minds minding the .gov store should take a look at their security clearance standards. You know, background checks? That’s right, in addition to a Texas CHL, Alexis had one of those, too.

Back to rifles, though. There’s really no point in arguing those details with the News. They have a narrative to advance and they’re obviously on a roll. Little things like facts just aren’t going to get in their way at this point.

  1. However, federal law enforcement sources told CNN Tuesday that authorities have recovered three weapons from the scene of the mass shooting, including one — a shotgun — that investigators believe Alexis brought in to the compound. The other two weapons, which sources say were handguns, may have been taken from guards at the Navy complex.
The sources, who have detailed knowledge of the investigation, cautioned that initial information that an AR-15 was used in the shootings may have been incorrect. It is believed that Alexis had rented an AR-15, but returned it before Monday morning’s shootings. Authorities are still investigating precisely how many weapons Alexis had access to and when.

    • From the most recent news release:

“The FBI also said Tuesday Alexis had a shotgun when he entered the building and got a handgun inside after he started firing. Valerie Parlave, head of the FBI’s field office in Washington, said they don’t have any information that he had an AR-15 assault rifle in his possession.”

Gosh, that EBR that took over this poor oppresed man’s Psyche must have teleported itself to it’s next victim once it felt his body die!!

  2. My twitter feed has recently been filled with retweets by Guns Save Lives of mainstream media saying there was no AR-15 at all. Suspect used a double barrel shotgun, then took pistols off dead cops. But no AR.

  3. It’s even more embarrassing for them. The FBI confirmed that the shooter did NOT use an AR-15 at all. just a shotgun and 2 pistols he took off victims.

    • For what it’s worth, when they interviewed the base commander, the CO said the cadence and sound were consistent with handgun fire.

Whatever, none of this will matter to the press. I’m surprised that they are not playing him up as a right-winger. That they are not mentioning his politics at all is reason to suspect that the shooter might lean left. Lack of evidence alone wouldn’t keep them from painting him as a right winger.

      • Two things, one of which has been discussed here and elsewhere for quite some time:

        1. When bad guys, or insurrectionists, or freedom fighters, want weapons they cannot obtain by any other means they WILL mount an attack with whatever methods and tactics they can devise to take them from people (civilian police or military personnel) who do have the weapons they want. (Ref Boston bombers for another recent example.)

        2. If they claim in public that he was a right-winger (highly unlikely that they would claim, admit, or that it was true) they would have to admit that not all (black) African-Americans are total Obama supporters. Not only will not happen, I’m not sure a liberal media reporter could bring themselves to believe such a fantasy.

        • ” they would have to admit that not all (black) African-Americans are total Obama supporters”

True, that angle didn’t occur to me.

  4. I like that two of the biggest media outlets in the country can’t even decide whether an AR was used or not, while the Civilian Disarmament Movement screams that ARs are evil.

  5. The Latest reports are suggesting the shooter only brought a shotgun with him. The handgun or handguns were obtained from security presonnel and used in the shooting. There may have been an M16 or M4 (not an Ar-15) found near the body of the shooter which was not brought on base by the shooter. Also, FBI sources are cautioning that preliminary investigations indicate that the rifle was not used in the shooting.

  6. The New York Daily News? It’s the Gotham edition of the National Enquirer, with even lower standards of veracity. Lupica is a hack, and a good fit for that rag.

    • Calling Lupica a “hack” is an understatement; “hatchet man” is more like it. Another shithead that was a regular on IMUS IN THE MORNING.

Anybody else hear anything about the shooter having a security clearance, and having worked as a 9/11 rescuer?

It’s a solid bet he was on SSRI drugs; he was under psychiatric care and had shot out folks’ tires, and once shot through a neighbor’s wall because the music was too loud. Yet he still legally owned gun(s). Apparently; it’s a little early to say that’s definitive.

  7. Golly. The “Brown Stream Media” (h/t Cliff, on another thread) gets the “facts” wrong in the first 24 hours.

They had a meme, and they were running with it, facts be damned.

CNN even had a crawl up for a time where they were claiming that the gunman was armed with an “legally purchased AR-15 shotgun.”

  8. Its cute how there is no comments section for that article, and no way (seemingly) to contact him or the paper to let them know they are spewing false information and lies.

  9. Liberals don’t care about the truth, or the facts, since when did they care? The Communist News Network has a story out saying that there was no AR-15 used, but then they go on to blast for 10 more paragraphs the evils of “assault-weapons” and all the other incidents AR’s have been used.

  10. Strange that the article, now shown to be quite inaccurate by multiple sources, is still available online at the Daily News. Sheesh…whatever happened to journalistic integrity!

    /end_sarcasm

  11. So will the media outlets who lied about this issue retractions or apologies? No, of course they won’t. It doesn’t matter whether he shot everyone in the face with a Ruger 10/22, they would still try to call it an assault weapon.

I just don’t understand how so many media outlets can get it so wrong so consistently? I understand bias, but they are exposing their bias for the world to see and it is hard for all but the most ideologically opposed to firearms NOT to see it for what it is. It is hard to even think of it as their own bias, but something that is most definitely mandated by their employers.

What is this network so opposed to the civilian ownership of military rifles? Is it really just “concerned mothers” or is that just a public face for something much more sinister? How sinister? I’m starting to think Bloomberg is just the tip of the iceberg. This is a pervasive view among the highest levels of the elite and I believe it is being propagated through means which the uninitiated cannot fully understand.

    • Your not implying that the MSM is nothing more than a Propaganda Machine for Progressive Communists are you?
Remember they never let a crisis go to waste and always get the most bang for their buck!

      • Communism is their strategy for placating the working class. They have refined it a great deal over the years and gotten on with what Marx originally intended: Applying his theories to a fully developed, Capitalist society. It is working pretty well.

The people behind this gun control push and the push for scientific socialism in general are the richest Capitalists in America and they are advocating the most totalitarian policies imaginable. John D. Rockefeller once said “Competition is a Sin.” It was his grandson, David Rockefeller, who would build the World Trade Center.

        Yeah, I went there.

Take a look at the statues in Rockefeller Center and you will see how these people view themselves. The statues are of Atlas and Prometheus. The Titan who carries the world on his shoulders and then the archetype of Lucifer himself, who gave man knowledge of fire.

These people think they are Gods. The only real question is how deep the megalomania goes, how far they have gone in trying to live out their fantasies. It goes without saying that they will exploit a tragedy… but would they contrive one? If one, then why not many? They have unlimited wealth and the allegiance of many in high places. What is the price of a man? A journalist? A school teacher? An official? An officer of the law? A soldier?

It is sad that I feel the need to see photos of corpses, so that I can go over them in detail because the media has made such a laughing stock of its credibility when it comes to cases of mass killings. Every time they just want to talk about what assault weapon was used, it is almost like the crime itself is negated in favor of drawing attention to the collective crime of gun ownership itself.

I want to be able to trust my government and the national media, but I can’t. There comes a point where the increasingly ridiculous narratives and constant fixation on CHANGE raises a red flag. Call me paranoid, I don’t care anymore. If all the media can muster is politically motivated lies in regard to an event as shocking as what allegedly took place at the Naval Yard, then I do not feel out of place mustering conspiracy theories.

    • “It doesn’t matter whether he shot everyone in the face with a Ruger 10/22, they would still try to call it an assault weapon.”

Well, it WAS a weapon, and he assaulted people. How picky can you get, they’re only reporting facts. /s

    • Bidengun?

A horrible insult to shotguns everywhere.

(I used to call “assault weapons” “Feinsteins” before I realized I didn’t want to give the b**** such an honor.)

  12. So far Iv heard he used a shotgun, a Glock, an AK, and that there was 2-3 others with him, all also using a shotgun, Glock, etc. etc. Hell its like the media heads said “What weapon should we f*ck with today?”

  13. I would propose the “Media Accountability Act” whereby retractions to any untruthful or misleading story would be given the same prominence as the original story – airtime duration and time of broadcast (retraction must occur during prime time if the original story aired in primetime) headline size, inches of newsprint, position (retractions for front page stories must be on the front page).
Legal eagles will come along shortly to improve this notion. I ask no credit for this idea, I’d love it if it were to take hold somehow.

    • I like it. As it is now the claim an AR-15 was used spawned multiple news articles, editorials, and straight-up polemics, but the retraction of that claim was simply buried in a paragraph somewhere.

  14. “AR 15 Shotgun.”

I’ll add that to “Glock 7” and “Phased Plasma Rifle in the 40 Watt Range” as items I will ask for in a gun store when I want to make a joke.

  15. NBC ran an animation of a shooter with an AR with a grenade launcher on it, all the while saying the shooter used a shotgun. I told my wife and a friend who bought an AR yesterday when the first reports started coming out that no matter what firearm was used, for all intents and purposes it was and will be an AR. The media and the administration will make sure of that.

  16. CNN says no AR. They sounded kind of disappointed. Perhaps news agencies are just shocked that other guns can kill people, too. As usual, the number of derp/fail moments leading up to this tragedy are proving it was avoidable.

    • I’m waiting for the inevitable talking head to make a statement along the lines of “if he had used an AR-15, the casualties would’ve been much, much higher”.

  17. The media have AR15 as a template on stories like this. Like the name Zimmerman translated to nazi skinhead racist.

    • being nit-picker, since I’m sure this was just a slip, but the Post is much closer to being a real newspaper. This gem came from the NY Daily News.

  18. WOW who know you could kill people with anything but an AR15?

Now we will soon hear from some experts who will tell us that shotguns are more dangerous than machine guns. A Machine gun sequentially fires one projectile at at time for the duration of the trigger pull or until empty- if you point it at one spot – in theory – all the rounds go in the same spot. With a shot gun firing 9 pellet 00 buck each trigger pull fires 9, 9 mm projectiles and you don’t even have to move the shotgun for them to spread out and hit multiple targets!

If a 00 shot shell was a magazine it would be illegal in NY state because it has 9 projectiles in it and the legal capacity for a magazine is 7 rounds.

We need to do something for the children.

  19. It was my impression he started with a shotgun, until he shot someone with a 9mm and then he used that until he came across someone with a M4/M16. Improvising as he went. Then he engaged the police in a shoot out.

    • Again, FBI reports no AR-15. As in zero. Not any of them.

The handgun probably came from the doughnut-muncher he shot.

  20. Folks, to the gun grabbers, liberals, democrats, and progressives your semi auto AR-15 is a real threat.
Why, because it gives you the means to fight back and resist them and their wish to oppress you.
It puts you and the armed local, state, or federal troops or LE on a more level playing field so it has to go, you shouldn’t be allowed it.
Therefore the very last weapon anyone should ever take from you is a still warm empty AR-15 pulled from your now fallen body.
Only armed men are free, the unarmed are just subjects.

    smitty

    • Well said, Smitty. +10,000. They want to take the most powerful resistance tools out first, then work their way down a massive shopping list.

Don’t you ever give up and give up your guns. Not one of them.

    • AR-15 being the worst? Only because they are too f***ing retarded to know about the .308, which will positively outgun the typical JBT with an AR-15

That being said, as a matter of principle (NOT law) EVERY house should have an AR-15, preferably his and hers AR-15s (or to be more PC, one for everyone mature enough physically and mentally to handle it).

I’d exempt two classes from that rule–1) if you live in a trailer park you should first buy a shotgun and use IT for home defense so you don’t wipe out your neighbors–then if you still want a brace of AR-15s, go for it! 2) If you have a semi-auto .308 you can skip the AR-15. Though personally I want and have both, so YMMV.

  22. It;s sad. I can remember when I was a kid and the NYDN was a newspaper instead of a rag. I can hear Jimmy Breslin sobbing now…

  23. Oh look. Let’s focus on the tool instead of the criminally insane person wielding it (and breaking the feel-good laws that legislators promise will protect against such acts). Again. Still.

This whole incident should focus on the fact that the perp was able to get a shotgun into the restroom when he wasn’t supposed to be able to. Obviously, that gun-free zone was (as always) ineffective.

  24. If you are stupid enough to vote democrat, you get this. Libtard (democrat) equals gun control.
Any questions, morons who continue to vote libtard?
