“Wichita police say a woman was sexually assaulted, hit on the head, and set on fire Monday night in Fairmount Park,” stlouis.cbslocal.com reports. St. Louis, eh? While the mainstream media’s busy gawking at the Gateway City’s surging gun sales (ahead of the Michael Brown grand jury ruling), the daily affront of criminal predation continues. Yes, there’s less of it, statistically speaking. But what do stats mean when you’re being raped, beaten to death and set on fire? If the antis can wave the bloody shirt to argue for civilian disarmament, The People of the Gun can use this story to defend firearms freedom . . .

According to police, the woman was on the ground, almost in a crawl, barely moving, and naked.

The woman was helped by a neighbor – Johnnye Marshall woke up her boyfriend Deon McPherson when she heard somebody scream for help.

“What if that was my daughter?  I’d want somebody to go in and get her,” McPherson told The Wichita Eagle.  “Where there wasn’t blood, there was a burn.”

The flames from the fire were about 2 to 4 feet high.  McPherson stayed with the woman until firefighters arrived.

According to Wichita police Captain Troy Livingston, the woman suffered burns on 55 percent of her body and is currently in critical condition but has slightly improved.

Police are still trying to figure out if this was random or if the woman was targeted.  Either way, Livingston called it a “disgusting crime.”

kwch.com now reports that Witchita police have arrested 26-year-old Cornell McNeal for the crime, charging him with Attempted First Degree Murder and Rape.

Imagine if the women in question had a personal defense firearm and used it to stop the attack before it began. Why, exactly, would anyone want to make it difficult for a woman to have that option? In fact, anyone who would deny a woman her natural, civil and Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms is engaged in a war on women.

Now THAT is controlling the narrative. Put gun grabbers on the defensive and watch them sputter.

    • Exactly. Make them answer for THEIR crimes against human decency.

This story is disgusting. The enablers of behavior like this share culpability.

To MDA and all you other anti-rights lobbyists that might be reading:

You are unfathomably disgusting. Repugnant. Blather on with manufactured ire, lies, about gun owners committing acts of violence. Continue to attempt to sell that line of BS to ‘the masses.’

In the meantime, the real blood of real victims is on you.

      • The only responses you will get is that her having a gun ‘might’ have made things worse and that the only solution to rape is for “you men!” to stop raping.

  2. UPDATE:
“Suspect in Fairmount Park attack has criminal history ”

“…McNeal also was charged with battery for an incident in February 2009. He was sentenced in municipal court to one year in jail, but appealed the case to district court. Later that same year, he pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct and was sentenced to time served.

In a letter to Judge Ben Burgess, McNeal urged him to review his case.

“Your honor, please work with me. I know your (sic) very busy, and I may be a small fish in your world. But I appreciate you for even reading this letter.”

    Then McNeal added a postscript.

“I’m not a bad person, sir.”

A search of Sedgwick County District Court records by The Eagle turned up four protection from abuse or protection from stalking cases that name McNeal as the defendant. McNeal was ordered to stay away from women and children in two of the cases – from 2007 and 2012 – amid allegations he tried to break into the homes of ex-girlfriends and harrassed them. One case, involving family members, was dismissed in 2013 after neither McNeal nor the person who filed the complaint showed up for a court hearing.

One case is pending, records show. In that case a neighbor of McNeal’s claims McNeal visited and refused to leave her home on Oct. 30, then six days later spoke obscenely to her, including making sexual statements. The woman also wrote in her request for a protective order that McNeal “barraged me (with) strikes” to the head and face and “kicks to my body” when she tried to go into her house.”

    • I’m normally not this guy but I would be perfectly content to see this person laid out permanently during his next assault. And there will be a next.

  3. Why, exactly, would anyone want to make it difficult for a woman to have that option?

Because everybody knows that if a woman has a weapon, it will be taken from her and used against her. duh!

    [/sarc]

    • She must have been walking around with gasoline and a lighter. Bad guys never bring weapons to assault their victims. Bad guys only use whatever weapon the victim had.

  4. In this particular case, especially in view of where and when it happened, this woman was and remains an idiot for not carrying a defensive firearm. She has no one to blame except her stupidity, whether she was anti-gun or just lazy. My condolences, but the fact remains – she was stupid.

    • Unless you know her personally, Alexander; the most you can say accurately is that she was in denial, delusional, full of wishful thinking. but to call, her stupid? Is stupid.

I was in the same state of denial when I was walking through a bad neighborhood late at night with no gun or even a knife when a human predator tried to mug me. Luckily, I was big enough and trained well enough in martial arts to win, barely. A couple of days later I bought a gun and have been carrying ever since.

Ideology overcomes the acceptance of reality all the time. The liberal/progressive belief system is a prime example. Pretty much in all spheres of human endeavor.

If she survives the experience, she might reconsider the carrying of a gun in the future.

If she still denies the need for a gun after this? Probably stupid would be the clinical definition of her condition.

      • Well, sir, you got smarter. Perhaps she will get smarter, too. I too was in a situation with a gun in my face, but that was in NYC, so I didn’t really have a choice. But I got smarter and do not go to NYC anymore.

        • By precisely the same logic shown in your first post, one could say you were therefore stupid to have been in NYC in the first place.

After all, if a circumstance existed that prevented you from choosing to arm yourself (that is, you always have a choice), perhaps one existed for her as well.

We don’t know what it was; we don’t have to know. That’s called not being an jackass about the choices other people make in their lives.

          • All I’m saying is that people make decisions and those decisions lead to consequences. Of course I do not know the exact specifics of this poor woman’s case, but the majority of such cases, I think we can agree, are preventable or avoidable (this one being too close to the epicenter in Fergusson). My wife has a CHP, but chooses not to carry. Should anything happen to her, I would have to admit that it could have been prevented. People often do not think of their actions much beyond their noses. The fact is, that does reflect on their intelligence. And as I freely admitted in the previous comment, I was stupid (and young; happens to most…), but got smarter. I’m just hoping that more people will get smarter sooner.

    • @Alexander, maybe she was stupid. Maybe she was poor. Maybe she was a prohibited person. Maybe she had been denied a license. Maybe you are a bit more judgmental than you should be. Maybe you are a self-righteous jackalope. The world is full of maybes. And jackalopes.

    • Maybe because there is an assault against inexpensive firearms that are actually affordable to poor people, her choices where paying the rent, or buying a firearm, and she choose rent.
Anti-gun laws especially harm the poor. If you have money and connections, literally, you can make it so anti-gun laws don’t apply to you. That is not an option for most people, and it’s certainly not an option for poor people.

      • I am yet to personally meet anyone who is soooo poor that they cannot afford $200 on a good used handgun and $100 on ammo, in the course of their lives. Yet, they can afford the latest cell phones, huge TV’s with premium channels, good cars, soda drinks by the register which cost three times more than on a shelf 20 feet away…. Come on, people, stop with the poor crap. It is a matter of priorities, not cost. Don’t fall for the “starving children” propaganda.

        • This is ridiculous. Your position in this discussion is even more ridiculous.

Who gives a rat’s rectum if you have met someone that poor. Are you so narrow minded that you deny such people exist? But that does not even matter.

Armed or not … that was her choice for whatever reason she had to make it.

Are you seriously suggesting that a woman essentially deserved to be raped, beaten and set on fire because she chose not to be armed?

Dude, go hang with MDA. We don’t need you on our side. You’ll fit in better with them. You don’t have the first clue what the phrase personal liberty means.

        • Though I don’t necessarily agree with you “the too poor for a gun” thing is usually grossly over estimated.

We, as Americans, have an obesity epidemic amoung the lower class… Simply put, we have fat “poor” people… So yeah, our idea of poor isn’t really that poor.

    • “In this particular case, especially in view of where and when it happened, this woman was and remains an idiot for not carrying a defensive firearm. She has no one to blame except her stupidity, whether she was anti-gun or just lazy. My condolences, but the fact remains – she was stupid.”

      @ Alexander

Your post is apalling to me. Take a moment to consider how outrageously stupid you are for blaming the victim for the crime. FOR REAL. You blamed her for the crime! She was RAPED, stripped naked, beaten unconscious and SET ON FIRE. And you think THAT’S HER FAULT?!

I don’t care how stupid you think anyone is, they are never to blame for being assaulted like this. I hope you feel the shame that comes from the million people that read my post, pointing out that you need to re-think your view of right and wrong–and you, sir, are wrong!!!

I don’t believe I have ever read anything more offensive on this site.

      • You have completely misinterpreted my comment. Of course I am not blaming her for being raped and set on fire! That was the work of vermin. What I am saying is that people need to realize that as long as our society is infested with vermin, we need to treat them like vermin, not people. When a vermin threatens your life, that vermin needs to be killed. Too many people somehow believe that every life is “precious ” and the criminals can be put on the right path and they “deserve” a break. In fact, this particular vermin already had a “break” or two from our “legal” system, with the result that we see. Again, I don know the details, but this case reminds me of one in NYC about 10 years ago when an ultra liberal young woman went jogging in Central Park, believing that the vermin that live there are people. Should it surprise anymore that she was raped and extremely cruelly beaten and now has permanent brain damage?

        • AS we rapidly approach the date in 2006 when my daughter disappeared…..Christmas is never joyful to me…it reminds me of the ISP Detectives describing this type of vermin as ‘animals.’ And something you do not read is that there are ALWAYS drugs and alcohol involved…..ALWAYS!

        • Backpedal all you want. You are the one that typed the following words…and I quote from your first comment:

“this woman was and remains an idiot”

          and the ever delightful gem….

She has no one to blame except her stupidity

Couch it however you like to try to soften the blow, but you are saying that she is to blame for what happened to her because she chose to not be armed.

You are the one that used the words “no one to blame except her stupidity.”

          Ralph put it nicely.

    • All her life she’s been told by everyone in the media, half the politicians, and all her community leaders that guns are bad, and that women can’t handle guns and will only have their own guns used against them. The media above the local level also have censored every report of defensive gun uses. A small minority of men carry, and even fewer women carry.

I’ve talked about this on threads on lefty sites and been told that I’m a danger to myself and my neighbors, that my “little gun” makes me see everyone as a threat, and that I have PTSD (?!). This is what the prevailing media/academic culture tells women.

      • Juliesa, I completely agree with everything that you said. And, yes, the liberal media, and the politicians, and the “legal system” (if one can call it that) are certainly culpable. But after all is said and done, an adult needs to be responsible for himself or herself. Unfortunately, in our socialist village, too many expect everyone else to be responsible for them. Like it or not, this is the result. Praying for her, feeling sorry for her, sending condolences and flowers will not change reality; putting one’s head in the sand won’t do it either. Are my statements rough and unkind – yes, they are. But is there anything that I’ve said that is essentially not true?

        • No, you’re right, but it’s too bad we all have to fight the headwinds of deliberate disinformation from our “betters”. I’m just fortunate to have been reared in a state where gun ownership is mainstream. Many are not so fortunate.

    • I hope nobody you know ever gets raped. Having you be there to call them stupid would probably put them over the edge.

      • Grindstone, what exactly is the point of your comment? If you have actually read more than the first sentence of my comment, you would know that I hope that no one gets raped. My hope, and your’s as well, is, however, irrelevant. The more vermin that we allow to breed, and the more that we let off the hook because they are teenagers, their father abused them, disproportionate oppression of the minorities, etc., etc., the more rapes and killings will happen. We, as individuals, need to be responsible for our selves and our safety, whether that means direct protection from the vermin through the barrel of a gun or the voting for the scum that rules us. In the end, it’s not the feelings of condolences that will stops these evils, but our actions.

  5. This tragedy could have been prevented if only we had some common sense laws that prevented people from setting other people on fire.

    • Like a warning sticker, saying, “Not for use on human beings” on flammable liquids? Yeah, that would be effective….

Better: “You put gas on my sister, I make you drink it!”
(and wait for you to burp or vomit, with a match)

  6. Well, Shannon will no doubt see the silver lining in this–no firearms were used, at all. In fact, from Shannon’s point of view, the woman isn’t really hurt, since she wasn’t shot. There’s no such thing as “violence”, only “gun violence”. Besides all of which, if the lady was any kind of worthwhile person, she would have gun-armed bodyguards like you do, right Shannon?

  7. Ban burning, now!

Wait no, ban fire! Or do we ban penis…?

Ban stuff! Yeah, that’s it, that’ll fix it.

      • Oh look, another crazy paranoid penis nut! Hey, nobody wants to take your penis. All we want are some common sense reasonable penis control laws to prevent the wrong people from getting penises. The fact that you won’t even compromise on universal penis registration shows that you are just as guilty as the rapists. That being said we respect your right to keep a penis for recreational activities but whats wrong with mandating secured storage of the penis (seperate from the um… Ammo) when not in use at a government sanctioned club?

  8. …and another example of a murderous psycopath falling through the cracks. McNeal is a regular walkin’ talkin’ advertisment for open carry. Wake up, girlfriends. No amount of pepper spray is going to save you from this kind of evil.

    • Maybe, maybe not, I carry conceal everywhere it’s legal as well as pepper spray including home carry and yet there is no gurantee, just up’s the odds in my favor. Problem is some people don’t figure out the world is not always a friendly place until after the fact. It doesn’t help that weapon are vilified but even before the invention of modern handguns, there were people who thought “it will never happen to me”. Thanks to getting beat up by my older brothers as a kid, I learned to fight ike a feral cat, guns and mace came later.

      • Sadly, I was someone who believed “it will never happen to me”. My brothers took away the need for any protection order.

My feeling about open carry is that if a predator SEES the gun, my chances of becoming a victim are considerably lowered.

  9. Sources in the family confirm that the woman died early Saturday morning in the presence of her family.

  10. On the subject of victim blaming, I think what it boils down to is this:

We teach kids to look both ways before crossing the street. If they don’t look both ways and get hit, sure it’s the drivers fault (assuming the pedestrian has right of way), but that’s going to be small consolation when you’re paralyzed for the rest of your life.

The victim is never to blame for the actions of another but there are always things you can do to better your odds and you have to live with whether or not you do them.
