Yes, there’s less of it, statistically speaking. But what do stats mean when you’re being raped, beaten to death and set on fire? According to police, the woman was on the ground, almost in a crawl, barely moving, and naked.
The woman was helped by a neighbor – Johnnye Marshall woke up her boyfriend Deon McPherson when she heard somebody scream for help.
“What if that was my daughter? I’d want somebody to go in and get her,” McPherson told The Wichita Eagle. “Where there wasn’t blood, there was a burn.”
The flames from the fire were about 2 to 4 feet high. McPherson stayed with the woman until firefighters arrived.
According to Wichita police Captain Troy Livingston, the woman suffered burns on 55 percent of her body and is currently in critical condition but has slightly improved.
Police are still trying to figure out if this was random or if the woman was targeted. Either way, Livingston called it a “disgusting crime.”
kwch.com now reports that Witchita police have arrested 26-year-old Cornell McNeal for the crime, charging him with Attempted First Degree Murder and Rape.
Imagine if the women in question had a personal defense firearm and used it to stop the attack before it began. Why, exactly, would anyone want to make it difficult for a woman to have that option? In fact, anyone who would deny a woman her natural, civil and Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms is engaged in a war on women.

In this particular case, especially in view of where and when it happened, this woman was and remains an idiot for not carrying a defensive firearm. She has no one to blame except her stupidity, whether she was anti-gun or just lazy. My condolences, but the fact remains – she was stupid.

I was in the same state of denial when I was walking through a bad neighborhood late at night with no gun or even a knife when a human predator tried to mug me. Luckily, I was big enough and trained well enough in martial arts to win, barely. A couple of days later I bought a gun and have been carrying ever since.
Ideology overcomes the acceptance of reality all the time. The liberal/progressive belief system is a prime example. Pretty much in all spheres of human endeavor.
If she survives the experience, she might reconsider the carrying of a gun in the future.

By precisely the same logic shown in your first post, one could say you were therefore stupid to have been in NYC in the first place.
After all, if a circumstance existed that prevented you from choosing to arm yourself (that is, you always have a choice), perhaps one existed for her as well.
We don’t know what it was; we don’t have to know. That’s called not being an jackass about the choices other people make in their lives.
All I’m saying is that people make decisions and those decisions lead to consequences. Of course I do not know the exact specifics of this poor woman’s case, but the majority of such cases, I think we can agree, are preventable or avoidable (this one being too close to the epicenter in Fergusson). My wife has a CHP, but chooses not to carry. Should anything happen to her, I would have to admit that it could have been prevented. People often do not think of their actions much beyond their noses. The fact is, that does reflect on their intelligence. And as I freely admitted in the previous comment, I was stupid (and young; happens to most…), but got smarter. I’m just hoping that more people will get smarter sooner.

Maybe because there is an assault against inexpensive firearms that are actually affordable to poor people, her choices where paying the rent, or buying a firearm, and she choose rent.
Anti-gun laws especially harm the poor. If you have money and connections, literally, you can make it so anti-gun laws don’t apply to you. That is not an option for most people, and it’s certainly not an option for poor people.
I am yet to personally meet anyone who is soooo poor that they cannot afford $200 on a good used handgun and $100 on ammo, in the course of their lives. Your post is apalling to me. Take a moment to consider how outrageously stupid you are for blaming the victim for the crime. FOR REAL. You blamed her for the crime! She was RAPED, stripped naked, beaten unconscious and SET ON FIRE. And you think THAT’S HER FAULT?!

You have completely misinterpreted my comment. Of course I am not blaming her for being raped and set on fire! That was the work of vermin. What I am saying is that people need to realize that as long as our society is infested with vermin, we need to treat them like vermin, not people. When a vermin threatens your life, that vermin needs to be killed. Too many people somehow believe that every life is “precious ” and the criminals can be put on the right path and they “deserve” a break. In fact, this particular vermin already had a “break” or two from our “legal” system, with the result that we see. Again, I don know the details, but this case reminds me of one in NYC about 10 years ago when an ultra liberal young woman went jogging in Central Park, believing that the vermin that live there are people. Should it surprise anymore that she was raped and extremely cruelly beaten and now has permanent brain damage?

All her life she’s been told by everyone in the media, half the politicians, and all her community leaders that guns are bad, and that women can’t handle guns and will only have their own guns used against them. The media above the local level also have censored every report of defensive gun uses. A small minority of men carry, and even fewer women carry.
I’ve talked about this on threads on lefty sites and been told that I’m a danger to myself and my neighbors, that my “little gun” makes me see everyone as a threat, and that I have PTSD (?!). This is what the prevailing media/academic culture tells women.

My hope, and your’s as well, is, however, irrelevant. The more vermin that we allow to breed, and the more that we let off the hook because they are teenagers, their father abused them, disproportionate oppression of the minorities, etc., etc., the more rapes and killings will happen.We, as individuals, need to be responsible for our selves and our safety, whether that means direct protection from the vermin through the barrel of a gun or the voting for the scum that rules us. In the end, it’s not the feelings of condolences that will stops these evils, but our actions.
This tragedy could have been prevented if only we had some common sense laws that prevented people from setting other people on fire.

Maybe, maybe not, I carry conceal everywhere it’s legal as well as pepper spray including home carry and yet there is no gurantee, just up’s the odds in my favor. Problem is some people don’t figure out the world is not always a friendly place until after the fact. It doesn’t help that weapon are vilified but even before the invention of modern handguns, there were people who thought “it will never happen to me”. Thanks to getting beat up by my older brothers as a kid, I learned to fight ike a feral cat, guns and mace came later.
Sadly, I was someone who believed “it will never happen to me”. My brothers took away the need for any protection order.
My feeling about open carry is that if a predator SEES the gun, my chances of becoming a victim are considerably lowered.

On the subject of victim blaming, I think what it boils down to is this:
We teach kids to look both ways before crossing the street. If they don’t look both ways and get hit, sure it’s the drivers fault (assuming the pedestrian has right of way), but that’s going to be small consolation when you’re paralyzed for the rest of your life.
The victim is never to blame for the actions of another but there are always things you can do to better your odds and you have to live with whether or not you do them.
