“Pierre was asleep in his bedroom, and his stepfather, Marco, was asleep on the couch when they heard a loud bang. It was the robbers kicking in the door that leads from the garage into the kitchen.” Pierre (he didn’t want to be ID’d in the modbee.com story) was in a hallway when the two home invaders got to him, armed with nothing more intimidating than a wooden coat hanger. Fortunately Marco, his 62-year-old ex-Marine wasn’t far behind him . . .
Marco, a Marine veteran, then came up behind the robbers with a .357 Magnum revolver.
He shot one round at the two suspects, which missed and lodged in a wall.
As the men retreated into the bedroom, Marco fired another round, which hit one of the intruders in the leg.
The intruders broke through the bedroom window and fled the scene.
The goblin with the leaky leg eventually flagged down a cop, figuring it was better to face the music and get treatment than bleed out. His partner in crime is still on the lam. Moral of the story: having a Marine vet in the house can be pretty handy at times. So can a .357 revolver.
Awesome…just too bad his aim wasn’t a bit better.

And think, if it were up to gun-grabbers and those like mikeb, those guys would likely be dead or severely beaten and these two poor, oppressed victims of gun violence would be off planning their next crime. Tell me who the greater enemy is, the criminals or the fools who enable them.

As a Marine, I am appalled that this was not a “one shot, one kill” story.

I blame the heavy DA trigger that was probably on the revolver. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
Just goes to show ya the importance of regular practice with your SD pistol. I, also, own a Ruger SP-101 just like the 3″ barreled model in the photo. Great little gun – Maybe the greatest of the little, ‘serious shooting’ revolvers! That was, however, terrible marksmanship.
You do realize that people move, and not all 60-somethings have absolutely steady hands, correct? Not to mention the surge of adrenaline and just waking up…
He should have grabbed a double espresso first! Well at least they are both ok, so in the end it worked out..

The saddest part of the story: “After the robbers left, Marco ran back toward the kitchen to call 911 but slipped and fell, breaking his left leg.” The poor guy needs surgery to have a rod implanted.
According to Dennis Henigan, the story proves that when you defend yourself with a gun, you’re likely to be injured.
My advice: Once you shoot the bad guy, walk to the phone.
I’m going to go downstairs, pickup my SP101 4″-barrel model, and give it a hug.
I cannot tell you how happy I was when they released that model.

Old marine, 357 magnum revolver, bleeding bad guy…this story has all of my favorite elements.
Yeah I couldn’t help but hear a gravelly voice in my head say “Get outta my hallway…….” LOL
There is a difference between combat and civilian encounters. There was another family member involved, hesitate, lose sight picture. The few times the dog has alerted, I tell gf to stay put, do not move. Then I leave dog at bedroom door, I move thru master bath and come out in Kitchen, that leaves me with open view of dining room and a swing out to cover living room, doors of bedrooms at far end are in full view long story short, so far, no engagement. And, I am glad of it. I do not take alerts lightly, someone kicking at my door? Now that would scare the crap out of me. (I leave the dog in the bedroom with gf, do not need either one under my feet while I am checking).
Talk about a generation gap; Marine vet shows up with a quality sidearm. Step kid shows up with a coat hangar. Don’t lose this opportunity Dads… it’s still not too late for that father-son talk you’ve been putting off.

My oldest is vastly better armed. Like a lot of 17 year olds he has a shelf full of shiny, sharp stuff to choose from
it really is like a blade buffet in his room.
Even the 8 year old has a plastic boken ( Polyken ? )
And both know to stay put during a robbery.
I noticed something wrong you said ex-marine. I have always been told there is no such thing.
Having been robbed of “jewelry and guns” two weeks previously, the old Marine was lucky to have a gun. Or was it, rather, lucky there was no thirty day waiting period for him to buy a new one? Lock them up when you aren’t at home, or carry it with you. Maybe having those guns stolen was the reason the young guy was armed with a wooden coat hanger!
