Gun-ban advocates in Delaware are cheering after Gov. John Carney signed four anti-gun measures on Aug. 15.
“We’ve made a lot of progress to keep our communities safer since the start of this administration,” Gov. Carney said at the signing. “The pieces of legislation we signed today and the other steps we’ve taken would not have been possible without the dedication of advocates who demanded action across our state, and our legislative partners in the General Assembly.”
House Bill 342 provides a way for lawful gun owners to voluntarily give up their Second Amendment rights without really providing a way to have those rights reinstated. In essence it establishes a program for those who wish to temporarily waive their own ability to purchase or otherwise obtain guns. While supporters say the law has a method to be removed from the “list,” it remains to be seen how that will work in practice. For one thing, a person could not have their rights reinstated for at least 60 days.
Of course, a person scheming to shoot up a school or other public place would never submit his or herself to such a list, nor would violent criminals who regularly use guns in commission of crime. Consequently, the chances that the law will have any impact on what supporters call “gun violence” are slim to none.
Equally disturbing is HB 311, which prohibits the possession of firearms on college campuses, with some exceptions for authorized individuals. Of course, this legislation could lead to confusion among concealed carry permit holders who may not realize they are on property owned by a college or university. Additionally, since criminals don’t follow gun-free zone laws anyway, they’ll be even freer to prey on unarmed citizens on campus.
The governor also signed two other measures—HB 155 and HB 270—which are also prohibitive. HB 155 requires secure storage of firearms in unattended vehicles. In states where “gun-free” zones are common, the government forces concealed carriers to leave their guns in the vehicle. Now they want to make that even more difficult by determining how they must be stored.
HB 270 requires licensed gun dealers to keep ammunition inventory inaccessible by customers without the assistance of an employee. Of course, that would require retailers to spend thousands of dollars to make sure their ammo was locked up, and still wouldn’t stop someone from stealing it if they really wanted to. The extra cost, of course, would be passed on to the consumer via higher ammo prices.
While lawful gun owners in Delaware will have their rights infringed by the new laws and criminals will ignore them, gun-ban proponents were quick to praise the Assembly and governor for passing and signing the law.
“Volunteers like me have been on the frontlines of advocating for stronger gun safety measures because we know that they can save lives. We’re grateful to have partners in the legislature and in Governor Carney who have joined us in this fight and made a safer future possible,” said Isheta Smith, a volunteer with the Delaware chapter of Moms Demand Action. “By keeping deadly firearms out of the hands of those in crisis and out of places where they don’t belong, these laws will save lives across Delaware and build on the progress we made earlier this year. Our lawmakers aren’t taking their foot off the gas for a second, they are demonstrating what a real commitment to gun safety looks like.”
Punishing the innocent instead of the guilty is the way of the democratic party.
Yet Jews and blacks continue to vote for them…
Apparently, giving up their rights to people who hate them makes them feel safe.
Hint: Golden Calf, anyone?
“Hint: Golden Calf, anyone?”
Indeed.
“There is nothing new under the Sun; only different.”
What’s a gold calf?
Don’t forget the ho.mos.exua.ls and athe.ists who just can’t bring themselves, to vote for those gun toting Christian conservative Republicans either.
But they do seem very comfortable voting for a gun toting h0.m0se.xu.al libertarian c0m.munist.
So criminal activity with firearms in Delaware will now be dramatically curtailed?
Yep it’s kind of like immigrating, if you do it the legal way you are the problem if you don’t you’re not. They will come a time when evil is called good and good as called evil.
THAT day is here. Stand by for the all the perversion coming from the Dim confab in Chiraq. Woe to those who participate. Gun? What is a gun?? Delaware is hurtling to the apocalypse🙄
“They will come a time when evil is called good and good as called evil.”
“So let it be written. So let it be done.”
“We have always been at war with Eastasia.”
Ranger Rick,
Such actions reveal three possible underlying mindsets/motives (individually or in combination):
1) “Magical Thinking” (Psychology term normally applied to toddlers) whereby criminals, who by definition defy laws, will somehow obey THESE laws.
2) Advocates of the new laws know that these new laws will NOT reduce violent crime in such places and simply used that as a rationale for enacting the laws–whose true purpose was to make life more painful for their political enemies.
3) Politicians knew such laws would be ineffective and passed them anyway to garner favor with their supporters.
Now consider those top three factors in addition to the fact that the politicians who passed these laws are violating our inalienable right to effective self-defense and hence life. And you can see just how heinous those laws–and the politicians who passed them–are.
If they start bail reform and releasing gang members like here in NY we may see Wilmington go right back to being in the top 3 deadliest cities like the late 2000’s to the early 2010’s.
“HB 311, which prohibits the possession of firearms on college campuses”
Yeah, they used to do that in my state – to invlude a gun in your vehicle – to be sure that I was not unarmed when I came home from the library, I would have to disassemble my pistol and the barrel wrapped in a bag by the mailbox. The trip there and back was gunless. but at least I was not subject to the 3 year mandatory penalty. I also was spared the respective fates of a university employee who came home unarmed and interrupted a burglary in progress – and a nurse at health center who had a flat tire on the way home, and the guy who stopped to “help” her cut her head off, eventually… IMO, he flattened the tire in the first place.
“By keeping deadly firearms out of the hands of those in crisis and out of places where they don’t belong”
What smarmy bullshit.
Sorry not tracking. What did you do to comply with those laws? Disassemble your gun and put the barrel in a bag by a mailbox? I’m confused.
Sorry, I was not real clear – disassembling the gun and hiding the barrel on the way to the on-campus library protected me from the 3 year mandatory (at that time) that could have occurred had a functional gun somehow been found in my vehicle while on-campus. Thanks mostly to the NRA, that law has been changed, and a gun in your vehicle on-campus can now be OK.
Coming home, picking the barrel plus a quick reassembly made my firearm functional for the most likely ambush point of the journey, the house itself, which at that time was remote.
Stupid laws make you do stupid things.
Where I live is worse than Delaware. My personal rules. 1: Never argue with people that don’t like, own, or are afraid of guns. You won’t change their minds and they’re definitely not going to change yours. 2: Keep all the gun stickers off your vehicle. I know they look cool but why advertise. In some places it’s an invitation to get your vehicle broken into or to get rousted by LEO. 3: Revert to rule 1. In this age of the red flag deal people that you know or maybe don’t know can cause you some big problems. This is all imho. 4: Shoot straight and shoot often. Just don’t let anybody know you’re doing it. I’m out…
Don’t talk about guns unless subject to favorable circumstances. Never talk about guns or the 2nd Amendment in public. No stickers on vehicles, of course. No signs on your property that indicate you have firearms. Load and unload firearms, targets and ammunition in the security of a garage, away from prying eyes. No flags or Republican/Trump support signs unless in a very favorable neighborhood.
It’s unfortunate, but a Pride flag is more welcome in our d!e!gen!er!at!e society than any indication of support for one of our core civil rights. Our nation’s days are numbered.
Not going to happen. I talk about guns calmly and in a way to show the fun side of owning them. I’m not about to let the takers and liars be the only one with a voice. By being loud and outspoken you are actually protecting yourself from red flag scum as anything they do will seem vindictive and revenge driven.
” Our lawmakers aren’t taking their foot off the gas for a second, they are demonstrating what a real commitment to gun safety looks like ”
Unfortunately, it looks like the bus they’re driving with us locked inside is speeding directly towards a brick wall, and the ones doing all of the havoc are looking from the sidelines, cheering it on. Meanwhile, everyone that voted this stupid shit through go back to their nice gated communities, protected by the nice men with their nice guns.
“the ones doing all of the havoc are looking from the sidelines”
In truth, everybody is locked in the bus. Many don’t know it, though.
“Meanwhile, everyone that voted this stupid shit through go back to their nice gated communities”
And won’t they be surprised when they can’t buy even rice or corn. “Gun safety” is not compatible with food security. Mao alone proved that… Maduro is in process.
Famine and/diaspora will follow when the Left gets the power they are working toward. Your meat, their teeth.
Delusional or lying Marxists. Take your pick.
DAs and judges will abuse the law for the “voluntary” abrogation of a Constitutional Right for plea deals. The law will be an insidious cancer hanging over the heads of gun owners.
“By keeping deadly firearms out of … places where they don’t belong, these laws will save lives across Delaware …” — Isheta Smith, Delaware chapter of Moms Demand Action
To be clear, Isheta Smith’s words, “places where [firearms] don’t belong,” were referring to the frequent designation, “gun-free zones.” And when we say “gun-free zones”, people often think of locations such as schools, bars, or perhaps hospitals. Good and decent people who carry firearms for righteous self-defense in such places–their firearms are only deadly to violent criminals who would attack society. Violent criminals who carry firearms in such places are deadly to ALL of society.
Isheta’s position therefore means that she is a violent criminal advocate since she does NOT want violent criminals to face deadly force when they attack people in, “places where [firearms] don’t belong,” and because violent criminals (who do not obey laws) will be the only ones carrying “deadly” (to all of society) firearms in those locations.
These people are so brilliant. Let’s see, take guns away from the law abiding citizens so they can’t protect themselves, let all the felons out of jail(if they even go to jail) when they commit robberies, murders, rapes, etc. we don’t have a gun problem, we have a people problem. Brilliant thinking libtards. Awesome!
Awesome is how they see themselves…
Progressive heroes. Like that sexy Che dude.
Your meat, their teeth…
HB 155 requires secure storage of firearms in unattended vehicles..
Wonder if that one also applies to cops? Seems like most guns are stolen from unattended police vehicles usually at their home…
Delaware needs to fix the banner on their flag. “Liberty and Independence” -> “Tyranny and Indoctrination”. Maybe a Delaware resident can get a Republican legislator to put forth such a bill.
Perhaps replace the two dudes with transgender clowns?
(And replace the cow with a goat, for our err, death cult ‘friends?’)
Will Del.gun owners remember come election day?
Welcome to DEMONcRAT Delaware. If the DEMONcRATS can find a way to make things worse, by God, they certainly will.
Yep.
This happened fast. For a blue state we didn’t have the restrictions that our neighboring states of MD and NJ had. We were and are a may issue state, but once you got past the ridiculous hoops to jump through and if you didn’t have a record you got a carry permit. We shot down these crazy laws for years by the thinnest of margins, but they kept re-introducing them. Once they tipped the legislative scales, it went hard and fast. I don’t see these laws ever rolling back. Sad, it was a decent place to live, but crime is rising, “progressives” from surrounding states move here to take advantage of lower taxes and end up bringing their policies.
Just one small point.
Are you actually saying that if t you leave a PERSONSALFIREARM in a vehicle that it should NOT be stored safely so that any casual thief cannot make away with it? Is hat what you are really saying
I only ask because i have never heard such blatant MADNESS even from American Gun Nuts.
