Unlike some of our other posts while RF’s not minding the store, this one isn’t about knives. Since we’re called The Truth About Guns, this article is about a pen. A pen loaded into a shotgun shell. Do yourself a favor – save some valuable time and zoom to 6:45 where Carteach0 reassures his viewers that “I’ve done the math, and this probably won’t blow up.” I admit it: in my own exhaustive Tuff-Writer testing, it totally pwned.
That is unbelievable.
Somebody must have told this guy that he’s entertaining. Otherwise, how would he know?
When I was a kid, there was a Bic pen commercial where they fired their 19 cent pen out of a rifle into a plank of wood. The styrene plastic barrel shattered and the tip exited the plank by about an inch but the pen still wrote. At least it did in the commercial.
I couldn’t find it on YouTube but some of you oldsters might remember it.
I do Blammo. Heck, it doesn’t seem that long ago. I’m pretty sure Youtube wasn’t around then though. Must have been right after my job shoveling dinosaur shit. “…some of you oldsters…”
An old farmer had owned a large farm for several years. He had a large pond in the back, fixed up nice; picnic tables, horseshoe courts, basketball court, etc. The pond was properly shaped and fixed up for swimming when it was built.
One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn’t been there for a while, and look it over. As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee. As he came closer he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny dipping in his pond. He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end of the pond. One of the women shouted to him, “We’re not coming out until you leave!” The old man replied, “I didn’t come down here to watch you ladies swim or make you get out of the pond naked. “I only came to feed the alligator.”
Moral: Old age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill.
The fact that the pen entered the target in a sideways orientation is a possible indication that it was not stabilized in the shotgun, and was tumbling when it impacted. This result is possibly due to the abscence of rifling, or the incorrect projectile weight for the round used. Further scientific investigation is necessary, including using a SABOT device and a .600 Nitro Express cartridge.
If TTAG would care to fund my further research in this matter, please send me $500,000 as soon as possible. Hey, Holland & Holland double rifles in .600 Nitro are pretty expensive, and I will also have to buy a cheap Turkish double for the actual shooting test. (Wouldn’t want to mess up my spiffy antique H&H.) But the H&H will be needed for … for … oh yeah, the cool close-up photos for the intro and concluding segment.
I’d like to see him attack the pen with a saber so we’d finally see for sure if the pen is mightier than the sword.
That’s it, you win today’s prize for “Snappiest Comment Made on the Internet.” I bow to your quick wit.
This guy spent so much time trying to seem clever I got bored before the shooting occured. I assume the pen didn’t break. Few guns can bore people to death. Many pens have been used for that crime.
