As the Democratic National Convention (DNC) unfolds this week, the party’s platform on gun control is taking center stage, reflecting a significant escalation in the push for more restrictive gun laws. In a clear departure from the Republican stance, which barely mentioned the issue during their convention last month, the Democrats are doubling down on their commitment to tackle gun violence through comprehensive legislation, legislation that will drag law abiding gun owners more than criminals into the sewer with its legal tentacles and chip away at Second Amendment freedoms.

The 2024 Democratic platform dedicates more space to gun policy than any previous platform, underscoring the party’s commitment to what it frames as “protecting communities” from the threat of gun violence. The platform’s gun control section, titled “Protecting Communities & Tackling the Scourge of Gun Violence,” is a stark contrast to the Republican approach. While the GOP was largely silent on the issue in its 2024 platform, the party has remained overwhelmingly supportive of Second Amendment rights in past and current messaging. The Democrats, in the guise of pushing “common sense” gun laws and touting their restrictive measures under the banner of “safety,” have outlined a series of specific measures they plan to pursue if they secure control of the White House and Congress in the upcoming elections.

Among the seven key promises outlined in the DNC’s platform are the implementation of universal background checks, a renewed ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and the introduction of a national “Red Flag” law. These measures are presented as necessary steps to curb what the Democrats describe as an epidemic of gun violence sweeping the nation, an epidemic for which they conveniently fail to acknowledge they are partly to blame for as many of these same legislators, Kamala Harris chief among them, sought to defund police departments and have supported no bail policies and the decriminalization of lesser crimes that are often associated with larger ones following the George Floyd killing by a police officer in 2020.

“The 2024 promises also include requiring ‘safe storage,’ eliminating gun industry liability protections, and…Democrats also promise to increase funding for the ATF, the FBI background check system, and CDC ‘gun violence research.’ That list mostly replicates the party’s 2020 platform promises, but not completely,” writes the Reload in an analysis of the DNC platform and compares it to the RNC’s.

The platform also makes a pointed attack on Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump, criticizing his record on gun issues and his relationship with the gun lobby. The Democrats argue that Trump has consistently prioritized the interests of the gun industry over public safety, a theme that is likely to resonate throughout the DNC, but fall flat with a sizable portion of the general electorate.

The platform, finalized before Vice President Kamala Harris replaced President Joe Biden as the party’s nominee, does not fully reflect her positions. However, it does mention her role in establishing the first-ever White House Office of Gun Safety Prevention, a move the Democrats hail as a major step forward in the fight against gun violence and one that places a clear target on her as being anti-2A.

Notably, the platform highlights the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, signed by Biden in 2022, as a significant achievement. This law included provisions for enhanced background checks, closing the “boyfriend loophole,” and funding for state-level Red Flag laws, which are a blatant affront to our due process. The platform stopped short of outlining more radical proposals, such as a mandatory buyback of assault weapons, which Harris had previously supported but later moderated, though such an idea is almost assuredly set to resurface should she be elected.

“Polling on the issue has been limited, but Americans put Trump slightly ahead of Harris on who would better handle the issue in a recent Fox News poll,” the Reload reports.

As the DNC continues, gun control advocates are expected to feature prominently, with several panels and discussions planned on the topic. One panel is scheduled to include speakers from anti-gun groups Brady PAC, Giffords, Moms Demand Action and March for Our Lives on Thursday just hours before Harris is scheduled to accept the Democratic nomination for president. With Harris set to accept the Democratic nomination, her speech may provide further insight into how the party plans to navigate this contentious issue in the general election.

For those who support the Second Amendment, the DNC’s platform represents a clear and present threat to gun ownership in America. The proposed measures, if enacted, could lead to some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation’s history, posing significant challenges to law-abiding gun owners across the country. One thing is certain, the upcoming election could prove to be a pivotal moment in the battle for freedoms in America, and if the Democrats win, America most assuredly will lose.

  1. First in. The party of satan cannot be “permitted” to steal this emaculation. All I got🙄

    • There are many talking about the accommodations made at Rikers Island and the fact that the NY judge might sentence for one year. These Maoist are dead serious. Is this the proverbial ‘October Surprise’?

      • “There are many talking about the accommodations made at Rikers Island and the fact that the NY judge might sentence for one year.”

For a first offense, jail or prison isn’t warranted, probation is likely.

The ‘gotcha’ for Trump is, any of his upcoming trials. *Any* conviction on ANY one of them will be a violation of probation, and that gets him prison time.

That’s *why* there are 3 separate prosecutions happening…

        • “That’s *why* there are 3 separate prosecutions happening… “

The reason there are multiple prosecutions of Donald Trump is because he has committed multiple crimes, in multiple jurisdictions.

Kamala Harris is a prosecutor who has a résumé.

Donald Trump is a convicted felon, who has a rap sheet.

          • Fake justice fake prosecution fake crimes real commies and you somehow pushing an agenda more hollow than my name.

          • MINOR49er, If that were “true”, why is it each of these persecutions falling apart? Hillary did far worse.

  2. At this point I am more curious how long the slave caste will continue to support this circus.

      • That’s just it with the illegal aliens pouring in and getting priority there is a lot less to go around at least here in NY and some of the natives are getting restless.

  3. d’s get away with this because they rebranded gun control as “gun safety” and stopping “gun violence.” r’s just need to keep calling it gun confiscation and confirming the government has no business confiscating private property from law-abiding people. yes, r’s were largely silent on this–and that was a fatal mistake. it also hurt that the nra ran itself into the ground.

    • It’s never really been a big priority for the Country Club set R’s. That seems to be changing. The dirty little secret is that most DC R’s didn’t really care about abortion, or any other number of hot topics. They’ve merely used these topics to get elected, just like D’s use certain topics. The end goal for both is always money and power. The ideological battles are a distraction.

DC R’s have values that are more in line with DC Dems than R/I constituents.

      • Uh- in case you’ve missed it, that “country club set” you so casually mention, as well as a huge portion of the Uber-rich are not from the Republican Party, they are hard corps leftist elitists. It’s been that way for at least a dozen years, actually longer.

        • To be fair, I did say it seems to be changing. There are still always enough R’s available to assist the D’s when called upon. It will take close to a generation of hard work to really turn things around.

  4. The Democrats have a 4-step approach to gun control:
    1) Pass laws that cause more crime (defunding police departments, supporting no bail policies, decriminalization of lesser crimes that are often associated with larger ones, and creating more “gun-free” zones that attract mass murderers).
    2) Blame all the crime they created on guns, not the criminals.
    3) Pass unconstitutional laws to disarm law-abiding citizens so crime will go up even more.
    4) When the disarming of law-abiding citizens inevitably causes even more crime, go back to step 2. Rinse and repeat until all law-abiding citizens are disarmed for the convenience of the criminal class (which includes politicians).

  5. The smartest people in the room all said Trump was wrong when he said “they” were out to get us. But he said he was just in their way.

Also the smartest people in the room said Trump was wrong when he said the election was stolen.

They also said voting was a waste of time.

“Why it’s Ok to not vote.” Catherine Mangu Ward. A great libertarian. Video 50 min long.

    • Bud I get you don’t like the libertarian political party and all (neither do the majority of libertarians) but at this point there are probably more illegal aliens registered to vote in NY alone than are actually in that party nationwide. Prioritize your targets as you feel best.

Office of Gun Safety PREVENTION??? They want to PREVENT safety?

    • “Office of Gun Safety PREVENTION??? They want to PREVENT safety?”

Amazing, you guys are like small children…

You’re quoting from a disinformation article, they are intentionally misstating the name in order to manipulate you.

Either that, or they are just careless and inept reporters.

“In September 2023, President Biden established the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention to reduce gun violence, which has ravaged communities across the country, and implement and expand upon key executive and legislative action which has been taken to save lives.“

  7. Gun control is a huge component of the American way of life. If you can’t hit a man sized target consistently at 100 yards with your rifle, you seriously need to work on your gun control. If you can’t hit a barn at 100 yards, you might consider surrendering your guns. For you hand gunners, reduce that range to 20 yards. I can’t over emphasize the importance of gun control, people. This is why we need the NRA back in our schools, teaching children from age ten how to hit their targets.

  8. I blame the gun companies for NOT Doing anything about it. They could easily get together and come up with a harsh strategy to counter the democrats BS policies. Stop taking gov’t money and Support the people! Stop catering to police. stop selling them ammo. THEY DO have power, but they don’t know how to use it.

    • “Stop taking gov’t money and Support the people!”

Companies (especially big corp’s) have no moral obligation to “support the people” as a political principle, but to support the people in ways that encourages “the peeps” to buy products and services. Govt contracts are very lucrative (in most cases) sources of income.

It is up to “we the people” to support ourselves, for ourselves, by ourselves. It is the business of “the people” to keep our republic, per Dr. Franklin.

    • One could speculate that some traitor company could step into the gap – except it wouldn’t be speculation because we already know who the traitor companies are. Your idea would just hand them a lucrative oligopoly, and “nice” gun owners would still give them another chance.

    • I can summarize the origins of left leaning ‘judges’ in a few words: they come out of left leaning liars er um lawyers who are the products of left leaning law schools.
A few years back it was estimated that the US had 75% of the lawyers in the entire world and the indoctrination schools are still cranking them out almost as fast as big gov’t is printing greenbacks.

  9. How many new criminals have they imported? People are buying over 1 million guns a month! Have gun will travel!
