The Democratic National Convention (DNC) is in full swing in Chicago and they’re offering voters a double-dose of gun control while the criminal misuse of guns on the street streets of Chicago continues. Nothing in the DNC’s gun control agenda seriously addresses stopping crime. For Vice President Kamala Harris – the Democratic presidential nominee, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, her running mate – it’s just more punishment for the firearm industry, more restrictions on law-abiding gun owners and nothing to stop criminals.
Sadly, the City of Chicago has led the nation in yearly homicide totals for 13 years running and last weekend tragically saw 30 people shot with five of them losing their lives. Crime is rampant in the Windy City and law enforcement is horribly treated. Citizens are at the mercy of emboldened violent criminals who know that even if they are caught on camera in gunfire exchanges involving police officers, they will get off the hook.
The DNC is casting a blind eye on those issues. Metal fencing has been erected all around the convention site, protestors have descended on the city and businesses have taken the proactive steps to board up their windows and doors.
Regarding the official platform, the party of “defund the police” is unsurprisingly doubling down on its belief that law-abiding Americans should have their Constitutional rights infringed, rather than supporting law enforcement and jailing those who commit violent crimes.
The clear message coming from the Chicago is “More gun control!”
Gun Control Wish List
The 2024 Democratic party platform section on gun control is a kitchen sink wish list. Gun control activists and antigun groups including Michael Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action, along with Giffords and Brady United must be salivating.
Mandatory firearm storage? Check. No problem that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled mandatory storage unconstitutional in its 2008 Heller decision.
Universal background checks? Check. No problem that a universal background checks on all firearm transfers are unworkable without a nationwide firearm registry that is barred by law from being established, and for good reason. Registration is a precursor step to confiscation. More on that topic below.
A ban on Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs), the most popular selling centerfire rifle in America that gun control supporters purposely mislabel “assault weapons?” Check. No matter that the Supreme Court has ruled banning entire classes of commonly-owned firearms is unconstitutional. Besides, a ban on MSRs is increasingly unpopular and a near majority of Americans now outright oppose one. And don’t forget, from 2021-2022, when Democrats held The White House and majorities in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, they couldn’t even gain enough votes to impose a new ban.
It wasn’t long ago that Vice President Harris supported forced confiscation of lawfully-owned MSRs. She abruptly ditched that policy idea when the DNC ditched President Joe Biden. However, both she – and her running mate Gov. Walz – support banning the semiautomatic rifle from lawful possession.
National so-called “red flag” laws? Check. Even though every existing extreme risk protection order (ERPO) law in place denies the accused Due Process rights to stand before a judge and plead his or her case before their firearms are confiscated.
The “White Whale” of gun control activists was also listed within the platform.
“Eliminating gun industry liability protections” is included. That’s gun control speak for doing away with the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), the bipartisan law enacted in 2005 prohibits frivolous lawsuits seeking to blame the lawful firearm industry for crimes committed by criminals. Democrats claim the firearm industry is “immune” from lawsuits. President Biden loves to say, “The only industry in America you can’t sue is the – is the gun manufacturers.” Only problem is it’s flat out wrong. CNN fact checked the falsehood, reporting, “Biden’s claim is false, as CNN and other fact-checkers have previously noted. Gun manufacturers are not entirely exempt from being sued, nor are they the only industry with some liability protections.”
If you can believe it, there are even more gun control wishes written into the platform.
A Dose of Reality
Criminals – including those running rampant in Chicago – don’t follow the law to obtain their firearms and they surely don’t follow the law when they commit acts of violence.
Democratic officials should look beyond the metal fencing for a dose of reality. Chicago, a city run by Democrat mayors since 1931, implemented a blanket ban on handguns in 1982. No law-abiding citizen could protect themselves and only criminals ended up with guns. Even the Chicago Tribune editorial board pointed out the absurdity.
“In the decade after it outlawed handguns, murders jumped by 41 percent, compared with an 18 percent rise in the entire United States. One problem is that the bans didn’t actually have any discernible effect on the availability of guns to people with felonious intent,” the editors wrote. “Who places the highest value on owning a firearm? Criminals. Who is least likely to fear being prosecuted for violating the law? Criminals. Who is most likely to have access to illicit dealers? You guessed it.”
If the gun control measures Vice President Harris and the DNC want to enact made America safe, DNC convention goers wouldn’t have to step over the bodies lining the streets of Chicago every weekend.
Since 2020, more than 22.3 million law-abiding Americans purchased a firearm for the first time. Concerns for personal safety drive most decisions to empower themselves by passing an FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) verification and purchasing a gun. Recent polling shows Americans overwhelmingly support their right to own a gun for protection.
New gun owners won’t be fooled by a party platform’s flawed logic when it comes to protecting their families, homes and businesses. New gun owners must register to vote and #GUNVOTE on Nov. 5 so they don’t risk their rights.

Instead, he blamed the Second Amendment and lawful gun owners, said nothing about holding criminals to account and repeated the same tired lies about the firearm industry he keeps at the ready – lies “fact-checked” as being false each time he’s previously recited them. It makes no difference to the president. He’s not even trying anymore. To President Biden and national gun control groups the problem is always the gun and the law-abiding members of the industry. It’s never the criminal. Blaming the ‘Resistance’ President Biden was joined by U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams for a “Gun Violence Strategies Partnership” meeting to talk about how to solve the crime surge, particularly those involving firearms. Instead of real solutions, the focus devolved into blaming law-abiding gun owners and again pushing a gun control agenda. “Enough is enough,” President Biden said. “Because we know we can do things about this, but for the resistance, we’re getting from some sectors of the government and the Congress and the state legislatures, and the organizational structures out there.” That “resistance” the president spoke of is the American people. Over the past two years they’ve become fed up with police defunding policies and soft-on-crime prosecutors, like Manhattan’s Democratic District Attorney Alvin Bragg. They’ve invested in their own safety. The “resistance” is the 21 million lawful gun buyers in 2020, including more than 8.4 million first-time buyers, and the 18.5 million gun buyers in 2021, with more than 5.4 million first-timers. The ”resistance” has backstopped Congress from passing federal gun control that don’t address crime. It also stopped President Biden’s nominations of paid gun control lobbyist David Chipman to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and banking activist Saule Omarova as Comptroller of the Currency because not even all U.S. Senate Democrats could support them. They would have turned those agencies into bludgeons to hammer the firearm industry to achieve a special interest, gun control agenda. Favorite Falsehoods The president turned his aim from lawful gun owners towards the firearm industry and repeated a lie he’s rehearsed several times before. “Imagine had we had a liabil… [sic] they’re the only industry in America that is exempted from being able to be sued by the public. Only one,” the president protested. “Why the gun manufacturers?… It’s got to end. They’ve got to be held responsible for the things they do that are irresponsible.” He repeated the claim for emphasis. “And I find that outrageous.” This is flatly false. The president knows by now, or his speechwriters do and they don’t bother with the facts. CNN, Politicfact and Washington Post have all checked President Biden on his remark, including after he said it in the White House Rose Garden. CNN cleanly rebuked it. “This is false. Gun manufacturers are not entirely exempt from being sued, nor are they only industry with some liability protections.” Politifact rated it “false.” Washington Post wasn’t kinder, saying, “Biden is wrong to claim the gun industry is totally immune.” The firearm industry has liability protections under the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), bipartisan legislation enacted under former President George W. Bush. The firearm industry cannot be held liable when unaffiliated third-parties, in this case criminals, misuse a legal, lawfully sold product. It’s fundamental tort law and is similar to an individual attempting to hold Ford and Budweiser responsible for drunk driving deaths. The law was passed in direct response to lawsuits filed against the industry by control groups and municipalities like the city of New York and the state of New York. These type of lawsuit continue to be filed, now even by foreign governments represented by the same gun control group, the Brady Center. Colonial-Era Error President Biden continued to ignore facts on the Second Amendment and its history. He even erred when speaking about the Revolution-era days and why the right to keep and bear arms was so sacrosanct. “When the amendment was passed, it didn’t say anybody could own a gun and any kind of gun and any kind of weapon,” President Biden remarked. “You couldn’t buy a cannon, and when – the – when this, uh, this amendment was passed.” It did, and does, say the right of the People “shall not be infringed.” Even The Washington Post was brutal in their assignment of “Four Pinocchio’s” to this statement. “Biden has already been fact-checked on this claim — and it’s been deemed false. We have no idea where he conjured up this notion about a ban on cannon ownership in the early days of the Republic, but he needs to stop making this claim.” In fact, the Constitution of early America – before the Bill of Rights, and Second Amendment, was even ratified – granted and encouraged “special waivers” to American merchants and sailors, “allowing private individuals to act as pirates on behalf of the United States against countries engaged in war with it.” Americans given waivers and who owned warships obviously also obtained cannons for use in battle. In fact, it is still perfectly legal to buy a cannon today. It is the presidents’ fundamental misunderstanding and blatant lying about the Second Amendment that informs his gun control agenda and misguided approach to solving the crime problem. Millions of law-abiding Americans took ownership of their Second Amendment rights to protect themselves, understanding the president won’t. Instead of mangling the meaning of the right and pushing for more gun control on law-abiding Americans, the president should keep it simple. Crime and chaos is a feature not a bug for the leftists. The more crime and misery they can sow the more the fools will demand the very same leftists do something to end the chaos.
With the inevitable result of the law abiding and honest citizens being victimized by both the leftist politicians and the criminals.
But, the fools who vote for these leftists will fall for the lies and propaganda every time rather than do anything other than demand even more oppression and loss of rights and liberties in exchange for the illusion of safety.
Well, at least they were able to fake “normalcy” for the MSM for a half of a week…. by erecting a fence around the convention center, blowing six months worth of CPD budget on o.t. for cops and private security, doing rolling street closures, moving protests to remote locations, having more dogs on patrol than an AKC convention, and allowing the police to actually police, the place only resembled Mogadishu for the residents. The fences and roads will be back to normal by next Tuesday, so the holiday weekend’s toll will be more reflective of a normal Chicongo.
