That Karambit is one wicked blade. I just picked one up too.
I’m not really into the zombie stuff… Or $10 folders but that’s not a bad set up at all.
I wouldn’t cry if I lost a $10 knife like that, unlike the several Spydercos that I have lost and cried about…
How are you losing several knives? People at your work have sticky fingers?
I’ve lost exactly one knife in my life. A really nice one too. Lost it to TSA when I forgot it was clipped to my pants while traveling.
I too have only ever lost one knife, a Kershaw Leek. I have no idea how…
I’ve lost a few. Broken some. And even rusted a few out from sweating while working outside for long periods and not cleaning them off afterwards.

Nope, just as I’m out-n-about doing usual stuff.
The problem, I believe, is the weight of the knifes and the fact I use them usually several times a day.
That opens up the stainless clip a bit and lets the knife fall out when I sit down or do some other motion.
The ones in question were the ‘Harpy’ and the Mariner’ stainless ones.
Here’s the real bitch – After I lost the third one I said ‘fuck that’ and bought 3 ultra-crappy knifes for $1 each at Wal Mart, and haven’t lost one of those yet…
I’ve carried SpyCo and Benchmade knives as EDC knives for years, including as a fabricator/welder. The shop, jobsites, everything I do, all day, every day and I’ve never lost one.
Heck I think I’ve had the Matriarch I’m carrying for nearly, if not over, half a decade.
I just can’t stand cheap knives. All the cheap knives I’ve had have lock or joint problems within a month, vs 5+ or even 10+ years in some cases on my nicer blades. I’m of the opinion that, generally speaking, just like days of yore a blade should usually last a lifetime provided that you use it correctly and take care of it.
If you have problems with the clip it’s nearly always the screws coming loose over time. Lock Tite fixes that immediately.
The screw were tight, it wasn’t that. And Spyderco had something like blue loc-tight on the threads from the factory.
The constant in-n-out of the pocket slowly bent the stainless clip away from the knife body.
Because of the threadlocker, getting the tiny Phillips heads out requires some effort, it’s easy to strip the head (like I did), and then you’re stuck with using a thin Dremel cut-off disk to convert it into a straight-head so you can back them out.
Once the clip is off, just clamp the part with the screw holes in a vise and bend it back to tighten the the clipping ‘force’.
It’s overall kinda a PITA. It’s worth it though, since Spyderco make some nice blades…
Some guys mentally never leave the military.
Some folks do well in a highly-structured environment like the military, and carry that over in civilian life…
Some guys never even get in, but wear flag-patch hats around town so they can pretend to be James Yeager.
I try not to carry anything that would look bad as an “Exhibit A” when it comes to defense.
I would not carry that knife as an ‘EDC’
I love my 709. I use a Handall Jr. Perfect so far…it’s a knife guys. I carry a knife too. Wow?
yea,.. but its a stupid knife that stinks for both peeling apples and self defense. That knife is good for two things,.. gardening and breaking pinky fingers.
A Taurus 709. Not a bad chance assuming it is reliable.
