Forgive my ignorance, but why is everyone carrying these field note books around with them everywhere?
Lots of people carry a pen/pencil and paper.
Field Notes, as a brand, are a fad. Writing instruments and the things to write on are much more widely common but the cool kids roll with a Field Notes book because a “Memo Pad” from Office Max isn’t what the cool kids are doing these days and a Rite-in-the-Rain booklet is too blue collar.
