You know the business that statist gas bags like Eric Swalwell, Nancy Pelosi and Diane Feinstein are always attacking and trying to hinder? The business that employs tens of thousand of Americans in engineering, manufacturing, distribution, commercial and retail sales? Well that business — the firearms industry — now has a positive economic impact of $52 billion annually. And it keeps increasing every year.
Here’s the NSSF’s press release . . .
NEWTOWN, Conn. — The total economic impact of the firearms and ammunition industry in the United States increased from $19.1 billion in 2008 to $52.1 billion in 2018, a 171 percent increase, while the total number of full-time equivalent jobs rose from approximately 166,000 to almost 312,000, an 88 percent increase in that period, according to a report released by the National Shooting Sports Foundation®, the industry’s trade association.
On a year-over-year basis, the industry’s economic impact rose from $51.4 billion in 2017 to $52.1 in 2018, ticking higher even while the industry came off-peak production years. Total jobs increased from nearly 311,000 to almost 312,000, in the same period.
“Our industry is proud to be one of the steady and reliable producers and manufacturers in our economy as Americans continue to exercise their fundamental right to keep and bear arms and to safely enjoy the shooting sports,” said Stephen L. Sanetti, NSSF CEO. “Our workforce is steadily adding good jobs to our local economies averaging $50,000 in wages and benefits. In addition, since 2008 we increased federal tax payments by 164 percent, Pittman-Robertson excise taxes that support wildlife conservation by 100 percent and state business taxes by 120 percent.”
The Firearms and Ammunition Industry Economic Impact Report: 2019 provides a state-by-state breakdown of job numbers, wages and output covering direct, supplier and induced employment, as well as federal excise taxes paid. Access the full report here.

Bah! Humbug.
Blood money.
And more emphasis on facts and data.
More like “that’s *our* money & jobs, that would be going to *us* and *our* people if it weren’t being pissed away on guns!”
“More like “that’s *our* money & jobs, that would be going to *us* and *our* people if it weren’t being pissed away on guns!””
Yeah, well there’s that after all.
these demon-rats would rather see the american people naked and un-armed in a fire-fight with the muslim invaders..
Cool it, Charles Martel.
Prison 101; no naked man is ever unarmed.
Dammit, man, you need to give warning before you say stuff like that. I almost choked to death.
” statist gas bags”!!! Love it! Delightful turn of a phrase, Dan!
“Firearms Industry Economic Impact Rises 171% Since 2008”
I’m sure the Ruger shareholder nuns appreciate this…
They sure did a number on Dick’s (pun), that’s for sure
Obama did that!
Let’s see: a $52 billion annual industry that employees more than 300,000 people — fedzilla will be pulling out all the stops to eliminate it. Remember, the populace doesn’t need government when we have a vibrant economy and more jobs than employees. Any chance that government gets to eliminate a segment of our economy is a chance to get more people dependent on Big Government.
Since the O is anti he would love to say he did it. Just like he tried to take credit for the growth in the Economy overall. Narcissists will always see themselves. Trump is definitely an Egoist, but not a narcissist. The difference is O will say paint a portrait, then if he don’t like it it has to be redone but just the background his image is perfect. Trump would say paint a portrait, then I don’t like it burn it and do it again.
I did my part over the years in the Firearms part of the Economy, since 2012 built 2 AR’s bought 18 more pistols and shotguns. I seem to like guns or something. My 21 yr old Niece just got her first pistol, she bought a Glock 42. She is practicing and gonna go for CCW. But here in Ohio a Rep just intro’d a bill to go Constitutional Carry. And Whiny Kasich is gone.
Mike, that’s a brilliant analogy regarding the paintings. Thank you. I had a discussion with a coworker once, an Obama (presumed) voting liberal who also owns a compact Glock ,45.
Him: “did Obama do *anything* right?”
Me after a moment of thought): “it’s not a valid question. Obama didn’t think the USA was exceptional and spent how many weeks in 2012 traveling the World saying it. Having lived more than a year in South Africa pre and post Apartheid and Chile before that, I *know* the USA is exceptional”
Him:
I didn’t win anyone over, he doesn’t have and never will have my perspective, but he votes. I vote too, and I write my employees (congress critters).
Just for my own curiosity I’d like to see the new full breakdown. Last I looked guns, just the guns, were like $16 billion with the rest being accessories. I don’t remember if that number included training and other services as well or just various pieces of hardware.
Ooo. That’s a very good question.
As a am ordering a new bullet resistant vest to wear while teaching
.
When I go to a new range and have to pay for it I tend not to trust the people there.
I have, at times, rocked a full on plate carrier with plates front and back for up to 7.62x39API and side panels rated up to .44mag.
But that raises a good question: is a vest/carrier/plates even considered part of the industry? I mean, I would think so but who knows, maybe that’s considered part of the PPE industry since it is PPE.
I’d probably sleuth that out if I wasn’t cloning hard drives right now.
“,They”,want gun control. Just like a mafia.
Don’t ya just love Democrat Treason, sedition, Communist values, free money, food, healthcare and education for everyone except if you are born here, and especially if you are a Veteran.
