Baron Von Ottomatic at whizbangblog.com puts NBC Sportscaster Bob Costa’s half-baked half-time gun control rant into new and (let’s hope) coffin-nailing perspective, rewriting it substituting “alcohol” for “guns.” The Baron’s redo arrives in the aftermath of Jerry Brown’s tragic death of at the hands of a drunk driver: teammate Josh Brent, released from jail earlier today. First, the original rant:
“Our current gun culture,” Whitlock wrote, “ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy and that more convenience-store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead.” . . .
“Handguns do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it. In the coming days, Jovan Belcher’s actions, and their possible connection to football will be analyzed. Who knows?”
“But here,” wrote Jason Whitlock,” is what I believe. If Jovan Belcher didn’t possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today.”
And now the re-write:
“Our current alcohol culture,” Whitlock wrote, “ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy and that more convenience-store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead.”
“Alcoholic beverages do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it. In the coming days, Josh Brent’s actions, and their possible connection to football will be analyzed. Who knows?”
“But here,” wrote Jason Whitlock,” is what I believe. If Josh Brent didn’t have access to alcohol, Jerry Brown would be alive today.”
For the win . . . . .
He shoots. He scores!!!
Goooaaaaallllll!!!!!!!!!
Bravo!!
Oh no After learning booze was at fault: Obama will reinstate no ban on any gun but ”Prohibition” again!!!
LOL
“Alcoholic beverages do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it.”
It’s funny how much more true this section of the rewrite is than the original.
For your enjoyment…

Yup, Prohibition and the War on Drugs being such stunning successes, the control freaks will now try gun control. Lots of Federal employees need the work.
To my cynical way of thinking, the outlawing of drugs was a payoff, a substitution for Prohibition when Repeal killed that cash-cow.
Costas really jumped the shark tonite on CNN. No turning back now. He has made it clear which side he is on.
While the thought of this is very “cute” I dont think there are many people out there saying alcohol and our access to it makes us safer.
However everything else is spot on.
This one flew over my head… You guys sure you haven’t ben nippin’ the bottle tonight?
I see no correlation between his anti gun rant and alcoholic beverages.
Could someone fill me in? I dont watch or follow any sports and really have no interest in watching a guy, for the millionth time dunk a basket ball, or throw a pig skin to another guy wearing tight pants, or some dude spit his chew at the pitchers mound while we wait for a batter to adjust his crotch. It’s of little importance in the big picture, but when it’s used a medium for anti gun distribution, you have to ask yourself, is this what they planned all along? Panem et circensis…
It is an example of how screwed up his rant was. The fact is there would likely be more good to our society banning Beer then in BANNING guns. The one thing we learned is banning Beer didn’t work.
Thanks
Robert
When will NFL players start turning in their cars and make a public pledge to stop drinking alcohol?
I am not law enforcement nor was I when I was in the Marine Corps but I was a photographer. When we were on duty, it was our job to perform forensic photography. I hated that because almost all of the calls were domestic violence calls. Almost every time someone got drunk and hit their spouse (yes, women hit their husbands too). Now everyone is able to do their own thing and I will not impose my choices on anyone else but I truly believe that if everyone decided to not drink, there would be so many less cases of domestic violence and vehicular deaths that people would be shocked. Alcohol doesn’t help save people but guns do. Guns help save the lives of the innocent, protect children, and keep our spouses safe from predators. They reduce the likelihood of a spouse having to bury their love of their life or their children. The sad thing is that despite these truths, the conversation is always about how we should not have the right to defend ourselves while the hypocrites who speak this have private security and/or live in gated communities.
Correlation != causation. In plain English, drinking may contribute to domestic violence, but it’s not the cause. Abusers will abuse, whether they drink or not.

My dad always told me the difference between an argument and a fist fight was alcohol. Over the 29 years I have been on this earth I can say it is the truth.
The real story is how personal responsibility is being replaced with government oversight at all levels. Because of this shift we have rules on everything, and have conditioned people to not think for themselves. They then end up needed parental supervision which bleed over all of us.
Yet cops, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Alcoholics Anonymous and other power whore, democracy f.ags will continue to support the persecution of innocents who happened to be intoxicated when pulled over for an unrelated offense.

Alcohol affects each individual differently and those who manipulate and lie to gain a political advantage have done more harm to society than any drunk ever could.
(excluding drunk generals and politicians of course)
I would have thought they would have had that fellow take off his helmet before they took his mug shot. Oh, wait, my bad, they did.
The thing I’m noticing is that the (antis) replies to the pro gun replies are that we are trying to stifle his free speech. They’re not grasping that we’re pointing out that:
1. Guy’s a douche who used an inappropriate platform to advance his personal opinions
2. Guy’s a double douche because he doesn’t have any facts supporting his position
3. Guy’s a triple douche for not relaizing that guns are the reason he has the right to free speech in the first place
Alcohol is much like a gun in that it is an object. It doesn’t and can’t DO things. The bad results that occur in society are not alcohol’s fault any more than a gun is at fault for a shooting incident. It is the USER that is responcible. The habitual or disfunctional drunk has access to any number of programs to get sober, probably more so than someone with anger issues, but in the end it is the person holding the bottle, the needle, the knife, the tire iron, the hammer, the gun that is responcible for whatever he or she does with these objects. The day I see a hammer pound in a nail by itself is the day I get my house exorcised.
Not quite a one to one comparison – in the re-write the last statement is actually true!
