(courtesy mayorsagainstillegalguns.org)

The Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) are for civilian disarmament. This fact escaped a few of their early members; politicians who considered reading the name of the organization sufficient due diligence. Upon learning that they’d allied themselves with America’s number one gun grabber (NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg) they quietly dropped off the membership list. Although the MAIG roll call remains voluminous, the gun control group’s been quiet lately, having purchased Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America as a more media-friendly mouthpiece. The email containing the list [posted below] is the first we’ve heard of them in a long while. (Damn their eyes for not formatting it properly.) Does it signal a new push? Watch this space. Meanwhile, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming – no MAIG members . . .

  1. It amuses me that Ohio and Pennsylvania are such second amendment friendly places when they look like damn near a 1/4 of the list by themselves. I mean obviously New York and New Jersey are big on the bs but those numbers there surprise me.

    • Yeah, to behold the immensity of this list, you would think that there is some clear benefit from being a member of the Gun-Banning Chorus. What is it? There are so many members in solid pro-gun areas, that it has to be…… CITIES!

Looks as if cities are quite the politically-cancerous boils. Well, the nuclear war with China will bring America back again…

      • Sadly… not so much.

The mayor of my hometown in PA is on the list. Small town surrounded by farms and villages. Almost directly across the street from the courthouse is a large sporting goods store with a thriving gun department. Two days ago I saw the new sheriff, the former (retired) sheriff, and a deputy sheriff in the store together buying ammo and accessories for personal use. It’s a very strong Pro-2A area. I don’t think I can directly do much about this with the mayor since I’m in an outlying area, but I’ll pass this on to friends who can.

TTAG – thank you for the info.

        • Too damn many in PA. My relatively small town mayor is on the list too, but our last mayoral race was won with a few hundred votes on each side. Talks at the shooting and sportsmens’ clubs, a little door to door, some signs…might be enough to tip the scales in local elections with low turnout.

    • The length of the list in my home state of pa surprised me…..and made me ashamed. The mayor of wilkes-barre being on the list didn’t surprise me, though. He has been in the news a couple of times for shadey dealings. I only moved about two towns away and the mayor of my new city isn’t on maig’s list, thank God

    • Those 2 states surprised me as well but i think the mayors of those cities actually believe that the groups is against “illegal” guns when in fact its all guns.

  2. The large number of members from Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania surprises me

Cali, NJ, and NY not so much

    • The vast majority of the FL mayors listed are in the SE FL area, i.e., Dade/Broward/Palm Beach counties. Not surprising at all. But Greenwood’s mayor?? I bet if the good ole farm boyz in the countryside around the vast metropolis of Greenwood knew he was a MAIG member and what that REALLY means, he’d get a talkin’ to. Greenwood?? Bwaahahahahahaha . . . .!

    • Most of those Florida cities listed are located in the very deep blue area of the state, Dade Broward and Palm Beach County

    • The mayor from Lakeland, FL listed here (Gow Fields), actually lost in the mayoral election this past fall. The candidate that won was endorsed by the NRA. I believe that the former mayor’s membership in MAIG really hurt his re-election chances because he was overall a good and decent man and many voters ultimately decided on that issue alone. Between the MAIG issue and a festering police department scandal, his candidacy was sunk.

  3. I believe it is our civic duty to alert these Mayors that based on statistics being a member of MAIG dramatically increases the chances of them committing felonies and being removed from office.
    On second thought, never mind.

    • My mayor already had an expunged arrest record before becoming mayor and hoping this joke. Stay classy Ohio.

  4. Can you post a listing of MAIG who are in jail or on the way, from the beginning of the formation of MAIG’s? I would like to send that listing to a few mayors and ask them about why they joined such an illustrious group.

  5. I bet more than half of these mayors have no idea what this organization wants or actually does. They just decided to attach their names to it in order to try and show that they care about the poor innocent victims of guns.

    • I remember back in the ’70s some group of fascists had their panties in a bunch over pron theaters in Dayton, OH.

They created a petition to have these establishments banned and went to every major businessman in Dayton to solicit signatures fro their petition. The kicker was that if you signed, pretty much nobody ever heard about it, but each time an executive refused to sign this fact was reported PROMINANTLY in newspaper ads the group published regularly.

You can imagine the negative effect on your business to have the public see your business name and your name listed not as someone who did not sign the petition, but as someone who SUPPORTED pronography.

It would not surprise me if this was not the way most of these mayors got on the MAIG list.

  6. I am ashamed to see any names of mayors in AZ, but Tucson is in fact a slime pit of knee-jerk academic liberalism. I will have to send appropriately uncomplimentary e-mails to the offending parties.

    • Is it not true that all of these officials swear an oath to, among other things, “…support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America”?

Perhaps the most effective thing would be to include the text of their oath followed by the complete text of the Second Amendment.

  7. I’m so sad to see so many North Carolinians being duped by the sexist, racist, anti-rights, and anti-Humanist bullshit belched by the civilian disarmament industrial complex. But, they are, after all, politicians. They are in fact, as a species, the very lowest kind of scum on the face of the planet. Always have been. Always will be.

I wonder just how many of these “Mayors” are convicted felons themselves. I’d put it at least at 25%, and I’ll bet the highest concentration of criminals in their midst are also in Slave States. More than a dozen of their filth have already gone off the rails, and very publicly.

    • You can knock one of those off the list. I had the distinct pleasure of joining like-minded people to vote Ms. Holcombe out of office a few months ago.

    • I’m surprised at some of the NC cities that aren’t listed on there. Charlotte, Asheville, Wilmington, all no shows. Cool.

  8. The liat doesn’t seem to have county mayors, because I know the Miami – Dade mayor is a member.

  9. The list for Washington seems large. Glad Bellevue is not on that list. 🙂
If you see your mayor just call her and let her know why you will vote for her opponent next time.

  10. For those who live in San Diego City, this week we’ll be participating in an election to appoint a new Mayor. Kevin Falcouner (R) is the preferred choice for anyone that wants to uphold our 2A rights. David Alvarez (D) his opponent, has supported MAIG by signing the dedication.

  11. The NRA needs to fight them on their turf. Imagine if the NRA started Mayors for the Preservation of the 2nd Amendment. I bet it would dwarf this list.

    • A good portion of those seem to be in the suburban Allentown/Harrisburg/Scranton/Philadelphia areas. And presumably Pittsburgh… but I’m not as familiar with the western part of the state to say for sure. I only counted one each in Columbia/Northumberland/Snyder counties (to my relief!) and almost none in the northern tier region. A handful of names and locations were surprising to me though… All I can say is, thank God for the state firearm preemption statue =D

Oh, and the Harrisburg mayor isn’t LT anymore. Wouldn’t be surprised if her predecessor is inclined toward their views though.

  12. You know that is a lot for Washington. Too bad for them we have a premption law in our state constitution. Meaning these mayors would have to change the state constitution to get anything done. Thankfully my mayor is not currently part of them.

  13. Ryan Bingham (CT Republican) is listed but he resigned as Mayor of Torrington, CT. There is a new Mayor, Elinor Carbone.

Sadly, seeing Ryan’s name on the MAIG roll made me loose a lot of respect for him. I hope he didn’t understand what he was joining.

  14. I just told my wife to kick our mayor in the nuts next time he goes in for a checkup.
Just hit another mayors official Facebook page.
    Thanks for this list guys!

    • It was sad to see the Mayor of Springfield is a member. Eugene was not a shock. Then I saw Veneta, really? It must be the Eugenian influence.

  15. It looks like only 45 of the 57 states are listed.

    Missing:
    -Alaska
    -Nebraska
    -North Dakota
    -Oklahoma
    -South Dakota

  16. I’m going too take some seriouse heat for this but: party affiliation isn’t pertinent information?

  17. Bing just got replaced in Detroit. The new guy seems to not be an idiot, hopefully he wont show up on here in the future. Especially now given the things that the cheif of police has been saying.

  18. Well let me tell you that every mayor listed in my state on that list is inundated with criminals. They should all be held accountable for the crime that flows out of their jurisdiction into others.

    That is all

  19. I think a mayor is more like to be part of MAIG when they are “in a blue dot surrounded by red” (As the mayor of Amador, CA puts it in his case). Amador County is solidly GOP land, but Amador City is a little elitist tourist town in the midst of rural Ameria. They are proud of their elitism. Tim Knox goes out of his way to be obnoxious to the rest of the county. He must hate it that the Sheriff gives out CCWs with “personal defense” as sufficient reason for good cause.

Now my mayor is on the list. This surprises me, she was elected as the continuation of conservative leadership. Then again, her main opponent turned out to be a felon and was killed off early. The former mayor, whose policies she promised to continue, was pro-gun. I guess gun ownership hasn’t been an issue my city, so no one asked too many questions. But I dug up a response of hers where she claim to be opposed to the complexity of CA gun laws…I would have taken that as anti-gun law, but may she was being deviously deceptive?

Hmm….recall maybe? We recalled our last female mayor too, who run as the protege of a long time mayor, and then exposed herself as pro-abortion…that got her recalled….in my Calfornia city.

  20. This list is not up to date. For example the mayor listed for Morrisville, NC lost re-election. I’m sure there are others who are listed but are no longer in office.

    • Alot of these cities are also not really “cities” the way you would normally think of them. In Texas, they have listed only two large cities; Dallas and Houston. Austin and Brownsville are tiny by comparison, and the abscence of San Antonio is glaring. Castle Hills is a snobby “sub-city” of San Antonio that we have to drive slowly through so the police don’t harass us. DeSoto and Hurst are the same thing but in (the REAL cities of) Dallas/Fort Worth. West Lake Hills ditto but in Austin.

      • I agree that the dearth of larger cities representing Texas is something of a black eye for MAIG. However, I wouldn’t dismiss Austin as tiny. The Austin metro area is booming these days, with a population up to about 850,000 in the city proper. The county just north of Austin is one of the nation’s fastest growing, actually. Now, maybe it’s not fair to view Austin in terms of the surrounding areas, but it is growing on its own, too. Besides, isn’t that what you did with Dallas-Fort Worth, which, despite the airport’s name, are two distinct cities. In fact, there are cities in between those two. As for Dallas’ population of approx. 1.3 million, that’s large, but I wouldn’t agree that it dwarfs Austin’s.

You’re right, though, San Antonio’s absence from the list is interesting. San Antonio is Hispanic central in Texas and the Castro boys (one’s the mayor, one’s a congressman) are big time Dem up and comers. I don’t have an explanation for why S.A. isn’t on the list.

As for my town, Houston, well, what can I say? Living in the city limits proper and voting for Mayor, it’s limousine liberals and the underclass. Virtually everyone who actually works in the city lives outside of it in the numerous contiguous suburbs (or even a few municipalities wholly enveloped by Houston, in some interesting quirks of local history and politics) and adjacent counties. Not a single one of those many nearby cities is on the MAIG list.

  21. My own state (WA), is divided in the usual manner it has always been on 2A: coast vs. interior. We also have totally opposing 2A Initiatives upcoming…594 & 591. Happily, as of the end of last month, the good one (591) has more people backing it than the bad one…and with less than half the funding or effort on it’s behalf.

  22. Dave Bing is no longer mayor of Detroit, MI. Mike Duggan is the new mayor and for the record, he was questioned live on a call-in radion show about his position on gun laws by yours truly. Three times he was asked and three times he said he was ok w existing gun laws. Easy enough to get the tape if he tries to repudiate his position

  23. Not sure how old the list is, or if it s also “ex-mayors against illegal guns”, but Mike McGinn is no longer the mayor of Seattle (lost re-election). Not to say his replacement won’t jump on board.

  24. Really safe to say you’re against illegal guns. I wonder how many of the mayors understand MAIG’s hidden agenda?

  25. I’m willing to give some of these folks the benefit of the doubt and say they joined the group without realizing MAIG supported total citizen disarmament. Regardless, none of them should be trusted to manage a shift at a Burger King, let alone a city.

  26. Stop calling it MAIG. It is purely Mayors Against Guns, MAG, period. Don’t lend credit to their bullshit.

    • Exactly, there is no such thing as an “illegal gun” only people who do illegal things with guns. Too bad the liberals dont get as worked up over illegal aliens. If guns could vote Democrat and apply for welfare, the leftists would do a 180.

  27. Nice! I’m part of a 2A defender group that just formed. Not much, just a very local 2A advocacy group, with a goal of getting others involved, improving gun owner images, counter gun-control advocates messages, etc.

I’m going to suggest to our group that we add this list to our goals, and start working on shortening this list! Every nibble counts.

  28. Mayor Johnny Ford of Tuskeegee, AL, should be pro-gun, since he was once saved by one. While out jogging during the mid-80’s, he was treed by a pit bull in a sapling whose limb was bending ever lower and nearer the dogs jaws. A citizen with a .22 semi-auto rifle drove the dog off and the Mayor’s Nikes were saved.
I guess he’s just forgotten the incident, But it was in all the papers.

  29. Here’s how to amplify this list:

TTAG should set up a database on their server(s) somewhere. The DB should be able to be queried by name, political affiliation, town/city/Census Designated Place/Zip Code, etc. It should contain the name, date of election, verified statements against guns, campaign contributors, legislative or policy action(s) taken against guns and gun owners, the whole nine yards.

We (People of the Gun) should be able to populate this database with credible and verified information, and then throw open the database to everyone who wants to see the record of these clowns.

From the time I’ve first been active in RKBA stuff, we pro-gun people have lacked this type of rapid-access information. We should have this information available to all pro-RKBA people at the tips of their fingers. Politicians have become very, very comfortable with flushing their misdeeds down a memory hole, and newspapers and the press are perfectly happy to help cover the tracks of these clowns. We need to rectify this situation and make these people aware, painfully aware, that gun owners have more credibility in politics than anyone else, that we never forget and even more rarely forgive.

  30. I would like to see a cross reference list of the male mayors to see if their wives are active participants in Mother Demand Actions.

  31. At the end of the day, it’s a list. So fu*king what…it holds no rule of law, and sways no one. Mr. Bloomberg wants to burn his coin that’s his business. Countless millions know what MAIGG is and millions more walked into their local guns store and purchased the instrument of freedom and in its ultimate form…speech.

Why the concerned? Do we really care if legislators degree this or that? In the end nothing takes away an inalienable right. We must decide what OUR limits are. Bullet buttons, mag size, giggle switch. If elected representative decide for us, we’ll decide for them, 9 million of us (CA) vs. them, go our separate ways we lose, stand together, make mark on paper we win..

  32. Thankfully I don’t live under a mayor but the mayor of a city near me is on it. No surprise there, it’s easier for him to blame guns than the people who voted for him.

  33. I recently wrote the mayor of KCMO regarding his anti-2A stance. I received a politely worded response indicating he intends to persist in trying to disarm the metro area. Fortunately, in MO we have state preemption and any pro-gun control bills are DOA in the legislature.

  34. Make sure you all email the clowns from your state who are on this list, even something simple will do. let them know they are on the list and we are watching..if nothing else the volume of emails will get their attention.

    • “get their attention.”

Ha! Maybe a nuke in the parlor would get their attention! But they all have email autoresponders: “Thank you for your views. Let me assure you that your opinions are important to me, and we are doing everything in our power to address this important issue. Remember to vote for me!”

    • Alot of these mayors are small town mouthpieces for whatever the controlling interest is in that town. For example the Myrtle Beach SC mayor John Rhodes is a stooge for the areas Chamber of Commies, which is controlled by one large real estate company called B&C that owns most of the prime real estate in the city. These front men run in elections where only a couple hundred people turn out, mostly employees or relatives of the controlling interest. Its just typical good ole boy politics, but it demonstrates the liberal attitudes coming from the national Chamber of Commies filtering down to the local chapters. John Rhodes doesnt even run the city, they have a city manager for that. He is just an appointed mouthpiece who does what he is told by his masters, who are obviously jumping on the Democrat pro illegal alien bandwagon. B&C owned golf courses were implicated in an illegal alien hiring scandal a while back, they love cheap off the books labor. Its all about crony capitalism and nothing to do with preventing “violence” since the illegal aliens they are bringing in to work are committing tons of crimes, including violent ones.

  35. Annise Parker – Houston TX (Blue dot in the red state)
I’m really not sure how she continues to be mayor of Houston. She ran on the “I’m a lesbian, don’t be a bigot” platform, and ever since she’s tried to follow the San Fransisco model that Texans just… well I guess Houston lib voters love. Anyway, congrats to her on her illegal samesex marriage. If I can look past that, maybe she can look past this illegal-guns farce. Also, insert fat-joke (Annise Porker).

  36. The tables have turned, now it’s the leftists/liberals on a list…

Wonder how it feels to be singled out…

    • Somebody should go all rhetorical – “Whaddaya mean, ‘illegal guns?’ There ain’t no such thing as an illegal gun, because this is America, where the Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms Shall Not Be Infringed!”

  37. Thank you for posting this. Seeing this list surprises me a bit to see how many mayors have joined in on this group. I feel a bit stunned to know there are ->THAT MANY<-.

What kind of documentation of pre-formed letters are there that we could mail to one or any of the mayors that would support RKBA / 2A efforts, even if they aren't willing to read support it?

  38. I am really shocked to see the mayor of my city, Howard Schieferdecker as a member of MAIG. Maitland is very much a conservative city with near zero murder rate. The last murder in the city was committed with kitchen utensils. I plan to enlighten the residents about the mayor`s membership in this organization.

Another prominent name who was a MAIG member is absent from this list, Orlando mayor Buddy Dyer. Wonder if he dropped his membership because he has plans to run for higher office in the future.

  39. Don’t know about the other states, but for those in Michigan where I reside there’s a VERY strong correlation between those who want gun control and the HEAVYILY democrat controlled cities… Gee how’s that working out for ya in the crime world? Didn’t think so. Saginaw, Flint and Detroit are just wonderful areas ..NOT
Heavy democrat influence = LOTS of Crime.. Go figure

  40. Meanwhile, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming – no MAIG members . . .

    YES! Wait. . .
    MONTANA

    Russell C. Nelson
    Belgrade, MT

    Sean A. Becker
    Bozeman, MT

    John Engen
    Missoula, MT

  41. I wasn’t surprised to find so many mayors on the West side of Washington on the list. But I also chuckle because my town has an open carry ordanince on the books (as in go for it).

  42. The amount of names in PA disgusts me… We ran that clown Ravenstahl out of office, but I’d put money on his hand-picked successor being just as bad.

  43. Last November Lakeland Florida Mayor Gow Fields refused to leave MAIG durring his re-election campaign. http://www.abcactionnews.com/news/region-polk/lakeland/nra-takes-shot-at-lakeland-mayor-gow-fields-while-endorsing-his-opponent

He was voted out and Lakeland now has a pro-gun mayor.

The MAIG issue was seen as the decisive factor in the election.

    http://www.abcactionnews.com/news/region-polk/lakeland/howard-wiggs-defeats-gow-field-in-race-for-lakeland-mayor

  44. completely disillusioned finding my mayor of Superior ,Wisconsin ( bruce Hagen ) on this list . city of less than 40.000 and that he backs the police chief who thinks we need a 35.000 lb armored tank to protect his SWAT team and control the citizens. small town america with Big idea SOCIALIST leaders.
Thats what it’s all about . CONTROL.

  45. James Thomas Jr. is no longer the Mayor of Hinesville, GA Our new Mayor is Allen Brown and I am relatively sure he is not a member of Mayors Against Guns, (notice I left out the word illegal), but you may want to confirm this.

  46. Wish someone would update this article. The name of the organization should be changed to ” Mayors Against Self Defense ” or ” Mayors Against The Constitution of the United States “.
