How much time did New Jersey reps have to read the 22 civilian disarmament bills passed at 3am this morning? I hope they had more time than New York politicians; Empire State legislators had all of 20 minutes to peruse the SAFE Act before voting began. Speaking of which . . . “With less than a month before provisions of New York’s gun law go into effect, mental health professionals are waiting to learn the exact procedure for reporting people they deem likely to seriously injure themselves or others,” democratandchronicle.com reports . . .
Neither the Office of Mental Health or Governor Cuomo have issued guidelines for who gets reported or how. Or when. Or where. Not to mention the fact that health care workers [rightly] fear that the Act will discourage seriously mentally ill New Yorkers who own firearms from seeking help. Which could lead to more spree killers.
In other words, civilian disarmament bills suck in both principle and practice.
Buried in New Jersey bill A1387 is this little gem: it’s OK to enter one of New Jersey’s about-to-be-created “weapons free” zones with a firearm if you’re . . .
A member of any rifle or pistol club organized in accordance with the rules prescribed by the National Board for the Promotion of Rifle Practice, in going to or from a place of target practice, carrying such firearms as are necessary for said target practice, provided that the club has filed a copy of its charter with the superintendent and annually submits a list of its members to the superintendent and provided further that the firearms are carried in the manner specified in subsection g. of this section.
Did you know New Jersey gun clubs have to report their members’ names to the police? Every. Single. Year.
Anyway, what’s the likelihood a gun owner will stray within the boundaries of a weapon free zone—given that the bill doesn’t require signage and officially sanctioned WFZ maps “may be changed from time to time by the governing body of the municipality”? Needless to say, what they don’t know can hurt them . . .
It shall not be a defense to prosecution for a violation of the ordinance that the actor was unaware that the prohibited possession took place within 500 feet of the outermost boundaries of the public property safety zone.
Who knows what new police state provisions are buried within the 22 pieces of legislation headed for Governor Christie’s desk? Or what collateral damage they could cause?
I reckon NJ residents will be paying for these civilian disarmament measures in the years to come, in ways that they couldn’t imagine.
GUIDELINES? We don’ need no steenkin’ GUIDELINES.
No unintended consequences here. Are you joking? This is INTENDED to cause more gun violence and mayhem. Then they will arrive with their NEXT solution.
Problem>Reaction>Solution
+1 for the proper use of “steenkin'”.
I’ve seen you post steenkin vs stinkin’, where’s your source about the proper usage?

Never let a good tragedy go to waste. And if there’s no tragedy handy, create one.
UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES ….
PLEASE , read the Book …

Every american gun owner should have a copy.
I recommend the “Enemies Foreign and Domestic” trilogy and for some in-depth light infantry combat, Patriot Dawn.
I really hope that this pisses off a New Jersey diner owner enough to move to Ohio and start opening real diners in a state that doesn’t suck to live in.
+1
This Cali resident is considering moving back to OH for that reason. I cook some mean eggs, but past that I’m kinda SOL. I love a lot about CA, but she is a cruel mistress. Any more of this nonsense happens and eggs it is, I guess…
they should pass a law requiring any paint-able walking / driving surface inside a gun free zone to be painted red, just so there’s no question if you’re about to accidentaly murder children
I hope they will add a feature to Google Navigation that will let me avoid weapon-free zones, sort of like “avoid toll roads” or some such. I have no desire to go to jail just because I might be driving within 500 yards of some street sign informing of a weapon-free zone (aka the mandatory punishment zone).
So if I’m not a member of a gun club, but I want to drive down to a shooting range, am I in violation of the law if I unwittingly pass through one of those unmarked weapon-free zones? What a joke…
New underground film in the works “Out of Jersey” I wonder if the old Jersey was as wacky as the New Jersey.
People get the government they deserve. As a refugee from NJ, I can honestly say I have no sympathy for them.
I asked an acquaintance who still resides in NJ what he thinks of all these slavery-creation laws and he just blew it off. That’s the majority attitude in NJ. They’ve become so used to being subjects, they don’t even notice anymore.
So very true. I asked some friends in NJ if they’ve contacted their state reps, and the closest answer to a yes was, “I thought about it.”
Oregon Firearms Federation
Massive Gun Ban Introduced
“This bill bans most modern firearms and magazines, requires that you register the ONE gun you will be allowed to own and allows for warrantless searches of your home. This may be one of the most extreme anti-gun bills introduced in the nation.”
http://www.oregonfirearms.org/massive-gun-ban-introduced
I certainly hope this doesn’t gain any traction
I guess it was only a matter of time. The would-be fascists in the Democratic party are falling all over themselves to reveal their true colors.
Let’s hope there are enough sane legislators in Oregon to defeat this nonsense. And let’s hope the #$&%ing #@$%ers who introduced the bill and all those who vote for it get de-elected next time they’re up.
The eastern states that are going full idiot with gun prohibition probably always were hopeless, and Colorado was a sucker-punch, but maybe Washington and Oregon will stop the trend. Maybe.
There is an auto-mailer link embedded in that article
(near the end), use it please!
http://automailer.oregonfirearms.org/
As long as we keep a careful eye on the developing situation and stay vigilant, contacting senators, etc., I am positive the West Coast (Kalifornia excluded, of course) will fare much better than the Eastern states. The climate here is very gun-friendly, despite being blue states.
jesus christ.
taht hits a little close to home. I frequent Oregon a lot and and friends from there.
Even my favorite gun company (noveske) is based out of there.
I hope they squish this bullshit before it gets out of control.
The ‘assault rifle’ definition pretty much includes every single automatic “traditional hunting style” rifle, due to the “shroud” section. The definition from Section 2 (1) (a) (A) (iv):
“A shroud attached to the barrel, or that partially or completely encircles the barrel, allowing the bearer to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned, but excluding a slide that encloses the barrel;”
Shroud means basically anything that protects. The “or that partially or completely encircles the barrel” also applies to that pretty wooden stock that sits under the barrel. And since it’s not a slide, my simpleton brains leads me to interpret it as just anything around the barrel that you can hold and shields you from heat coming from the barrel. The forward part of the stock does just that.
Then 2 subsections up, number (ii) states:
“Any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the non-trigger hand;”
That makes any rifle capable accepting a sling at the front an assault weapon too. Why? Just google the “Hawkins position”, also described in Jeff Cooper’s “The Art of the Rifle”.
Sure, this all sounds like some exotic explanations, but people get burned in court over these types of things on a daily basis.
So yes, this bill is another one that sucks.
in the WA Bill All handguns are concidered Assualt Weapons
Jersey – Making it safer for criminals every single day.
Dude, we need to meet up for a burger and a beer.
Believe it or not at one time NJ was a free state with about the same gun laws as Wyoming. It wasn’t untill the late ’60’s that things started going sour and they haven’t shopped. They now would ban pictures of guns if they could, all thanks to the Reps put in by the masses of asses in Newark and Camden. It looked for a while like Christie would do some good but now he seems to be happy being another lapdog to our Dear Leader. What this place needs is some Federal, Courtly intervention to restore the Constitution and save democracy.
The mid 60’s spawned the dawn of modern liberalism and the ‘Great Society’ by that SOB, LBJ. There be the problem.
Christie has no problems with banning guns. But ban Happy Meals and he’ll go nuts. Guaranteed.
Better yet take away his dough nuts!
That sounded really gross.
I see what you did there.
I’m sure there’s one pro-gun legislator left up there. Tell him to sprinkle powdered sugar all over the bills so Christie will eat them and the Dems will have to rewrite them.
Wait, what is the purpose of a boundary if you can’t go within 500 feet of the boundary, that’s a boundary for a boundary isn’t it? How does that work?
I think that if you commit a crime within a gun-free zone, the punishment will be more severe than if the exact same crime was committed outside of the zone. I think this is an attempt at something similar, yet even more restrictive. It’s pure insanity.
“Unintended Consequences” needs an editor and subsequent reissue.
So… Anyone want to start taking bets on which side will open fire first?
The Feds? On a botched raid to collect firearms perhaps? Ruby Ridge 2.0 maybe?
A law enforcement agency of one of the states/local governments? A SWAT team takes heavy losses in a raid in NYS, or NJ perhaps?
A group of pissed off gun-guys who decide to strike first? Maybe targeting some slimy politicians, or the police chiefs of large urban cities who don’t respect the 2nd Amendment?
Hey, I’m just sayin’ what we’ve all been thinking since Sandy Hook…
Henry Bowman.
Yup… Kinda walked into that one…
And BTW, I think that “Enemies Foreign and Domestic”, the entire trilogy, by Matthew Bracken, is better and actually more accurate than “Unintended Consequences”, by John Ross.
But that’s just my own opinion.
Does any of this apply to The Donald? Or, is he above all that?
what was it that joe biden said again? something like not one American if afraid their rights will be infringed.
Oregon introduced new bill to limit law abiding civilians to one fire arm, three “large capacity magazines and warrantless house searches!!! Along with the usual ban of 10 round magazines and one feature, of course.. They are tricking us Oregonian gun owners by proposing HB3006 which outlaws all federal firearm laws that conflict with the second amendment but they introduce this state bill to attack us instead!! This is the most invasive bill introduced in the country!!! Please spread the word!

Thanks for the pdf link. I’ve forwarded to my legal team.
The bill will go down in flames if ‘warrantless house searches’ is kept on the bill. Not even the most moronic leftist libtard will go for that level of effing commie slime. Because liberalism is a mental disorder, there always is a chance, so I may be wrong.
punishmement for law abidding citicens with invisable boundries
Rewards for illegals with Non-borders
These laws [A1387] are literally IGNORANT at best. Case in Point! Your daughter and a bunch of her girlfriends go to Ocean City NJ for the weekend. Last year they went there and were walking along the beach at night. Some boys had bad intentions [rape] on their mind and attacked the young ladies. The girls had good parents which got them pepper spray to protect themselves and it drove the bad boys off. With this bill Pepper spray would be considered a weapon and the young ladies can’t carry it with them. What would the outcome be if they were attacked this time? Probably not a good outcome if they even survive the attack!
Any libtard against pepper spray should be pepper sprayed and hit in the lower jaw with a ball peen hammer.
Liberalism is a mental disorder.
It’s possible there are many who know of Matthew Bracken, who is the author of the “Enemies Foreign and Domestic” trilogy, the third book of which is “Foreign Enemies and Traitors“.
“Democide is the elimination of a despised group by a government. It includes genocide, politicide, and other forms of state-sponsored mass murder.”
Read an uncomfortably perceptive article by Matthew, and also be sure to watch the powerful short video lower down the same page. Pass it on – it deserves a wide audience, to at the very least, make people sit up and take notice. “Wake-up call”? You decide: http://www.JPFO.org
Refer to the “Sandy Hook Index” for an archive collection of material we have shown since the tragic events at the Newtown Elementary School. Much is directly resulting from the event but also there are items simply clarifying various aspects of the “gun control” issue which has been such a hot button topic again.
About:
Jews For The Preservation Of Firearms Ownership Mission is to destroy “gun control” and to encourage Americans to understand and defend all of the Bill of Rights for everyone. Those are the twin goals of Wisconsin-based Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO). Founded by Jews and initially aimed at educating the Jewish community about the historical evils that Jews have suffered when they have been disarmed, JPFO has always welcomed persons of all religious beliefs who share a common goal of opposing and reversing victim disarmament policies while advancing liberty for all.
JPFO is a non-profit tax-exempt educational civil rights organization, not a lobby. JPFO’s products and programs reach out to as many segments of the American people as possible, using bold tactics without compromise on fundamental principles. Visit http://www.JPFO.org – Copyright JPFO 2011

Alright, so unfortunately there have been so many gun laws being passed on both sides of the fence, that my head is literally spinning in a mix of state laws and battle lines.
Can we get a “Status Update” on the current forms and affairs of gun laws passed since Sandy Hook? As a gun owner I take great pride in knowing most gun laws, but I certainly do not have a full understanding of all of the new ones. I’m familiar with SAFE, and I’m tracking CO’s ridiculousness, now this. Off the top of my head I recall new laws for CT, NJ, CA, MN, NY, CO, MD, but I know there are more on the agenda.
So how about a “State of the Gun” post with the following info
Who has passed new Gun Control Laws, and what is the brief summary?
Who has new Gun Control Laws in progress, what is their summary?
Who has passed new Gun Rights Laws, and what is the summary?
Who has new Gun Rights Laws on the books, and what is the summery?
Because the way I see it, battle lines are being drawn. At this point, any state pushing gun control laws through are doing it so hastily that no one fully understands all of them, and these states are best to stay away from until the SCOTUS weighs in.
I’m 56 yrs. old and lived in Jersey all my life execpt for the last year 1/2. My Assemblyman held meetings once a month and I regularly attended. He was open to an education on firearms and the right to bear arms. After about a year of talks he realy undrestood the meeting. You folks in NJ have got to chew there ears off with letters, e-mails, phone calls and face to face meetings. Teach your legislator!
I have to throw this in for my friend still in NJ. Moved to Pa.
when to the Sherifs office, show my Fl. concealed linsence, walked out with a 5yr Pa for $20. in 15 Min.
