On Monday’s first day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Pro-Second Amendment advocates were blowing the whistle on the Democratic Party Platform.

“Tim Walz lied when he said, ‘No one wants to take your guns,’ and that could not be made more clear by this DNC platform, which is loaded with blatantly unconstitutional policies that won’t do anything to stop crime or make America safer,” Aidan Johnston, director of federal affairs for Gun Owners of America (GOA) told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Johnston said his organization just hosted its inaugural convention in Knoxville and members were abuzz about the choices in this fall’s presidential election.

“It’s clear based on the response from thousands of our members that they’re fired up heading into this election—gun owners know the Second Amendment is on the ballot,” he said. “We will continue to push back on this DNC agenda through campaign action, lobbying efforts, and if necessary, legal challenges in defense of Americans’ Second Amendment rights. We cannot afford to compromise.”

One look at the so-called “Gun Safety” subhead of the official Democrat Party Platform document—which, incidentally, has nothing to do with gun safety—tells gun owners all they need to know about where that party stands on Second Amendment rights. In fact, it’s basically a wish list of proposals anti-gun groups have been pushing for years.

“Democrats will establish universal background checks, a step supported by the vast majority of Americans, including gun owners,” the platform states. “We will once again ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. We will require safe storage for guns.”

Of course, most gun owners do not support so-called “universal” background checks, since only lawful gun owners will comply with the law and criminals will continue to get their guns however they want. However, if Democrat pollsters ask the question just right, they can make it seem like the “vast majority of Americans” want such a law.

The platform continues: “Democrats will end the gun industry’s immunity from liability, so gunmakers can no longer escape accountability. We will pass a national red flag law to prevent tragedies by keeping weapons out of dangerous hands.”

As TTAG readers know, gun companies do not have blanket immunity as President Joe Biden and others like to say. The Protection of Lawful Commerce In Arms Act (PLCAA) actually just protects them from frivolous lawsuits for the illegal use of their legally produced, lawfully sold products. Additionally, nearly all red-flag laws passed to date lack sufficient protection for gun owners’ right to due process.

“We will increase funding to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) for enforcement and prosecution, and to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for firearm background checks,” the platform concludes. “And, because the gun violence epidemic is a public health crisis, we will fund gun violence research across the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) as well as community violence interventions.”

Increasing funding for either of those rogue agencies is a poor decision, and it’s likely that former President Donald Trump, if he were to win, would do just the opposite, which would be a positive step for lawful gun owners. Additionally, gun violence isn’t a “public health crisis,” it’s a violent criminal. Since the Democratic party is typically soft on crime, they have to blame violence on something other than the criminals that they rely on for votes.

In the end, the Democrat Party Platform is a lose-lose proposition for gun owners, regardless of which party they embrace. We can only hope they don’t get another chance to bring all those restrictions to fruition.

  1. Braindead said basically the same thing except he wasn’t going to after “your AR16” which is okay since I don’t know anyone who has an AR16 or even what an AR16 is, but he sure wanted his AFT to go after them… Lying phuks will say anything and stupid low information voters believe them…

        • That’s right Paul…Useful idiot democRats believe Gun Control is the greatest thing since sliced bread. And that is because what they know about Gun Control is ALL they have been told about Gun Control by the lying media and the lying democRat Party.

And you know what else Paul? When it comes to Defining Gun Control by its History for the aforementioned useful idiots most Gun talking tough guys have been Crickets. And you know why Paul? Because certain Gun Talking blowbags want their 2A right and they also want Bigotry on the same plate. You see Paul to Define Gun Control by its History like a man should you must hate the realities of Racism and Genocide. In other words you are not going to allow an agenda Rooted in Racism and Genocide to exist in America.

So Paul when you see Gun Control useful idiots begging for Gun Control you are seeing useful idiots who have been brainwashed to get rid of the Second Amendment.

What’s going in America is a spinoff of Mao’s 4 Olds and no different than a cackling hyena running around saying, “What can be unburdened by what has been.” Make no mistake about it Paul, cackles line of totalitarian crap includes the Second Amendment.

      • The AR-16 was briefly marketed by Armalite in the early 1960s to ’emerging countries’ with limited industrial base but never entered full production due to a lack of sales.

        • The more well known AR-18 had more modest success being made by Howa and Stirling. It also became the base design for many other guns.

Unfortunately the only notable user was the IRA.

  2. I’m 81 and me mum use to say when I was a wee little lad, ” democrats mess things up and the republicans straighten things out”. These days I’m not so sure the republicans do as she said.

      • one foot…Only the Good Lord knows when your time is up and you are by no means the Good Lord…You’re a punk whose daddy failed to stick a boot up your obnoxious butt.

  3. The real risk of the Dem platform is SCOTUS. At 75 and 73 respectively, Thomas and Alito are the oldest members of the court.

Imagine if Kamala were able to replace them. 6r-3d would go 5d-4r real quick. The other proposals would require legislation – which would require retaking the House and keeping the Senate (and possibly abolishing the filabuster), or Executive Order.

  4. Oh?, the NIH that funded ‘Gain of Function’ virus research that is responsible for 100 million+ of victims worldwide. Then steer millions more (mandated) with an experimental therapy.

  5. “We don’t want to take your guns”…but you can only have a single shot .22 in any color but black. We’re living in very strange times.

    • Ya know in ILLannoy the dims mandated no AR & no magazines holding enuf boo-lits. A tiny tiny % of
dimwits registered their gunz&ammo. Nationwide is pathetic. If every one on the freedom side voted Trump & even ILL would go red. Not that Illinois republicans are that great but compared to Dims they’ll do! I’m over 70 & have been a gat owner for 13 year’s. I was shocked to realize how pathetic most gun owner’s were(are). It’s time to step up & fight the power. “By any means necessary”🙄

      • They do that crap knowing they will eventually be overturned by the courts but in the meantime, they are building an “illegal” data base of those dumbass AR/AK owners who complied… Sneaky bastages they are… (they think)… If only they could understand that all they got was a list of sheeple who would throw down their arms on demand any way…

  6. “Democrats will establish universal background checks, a step supported by the vast majority of Americans, including gun owners,”

A blatant lie. This myth of “vast majority of Americans” supporting more gun laws, a myth these anti-gun have touted for years with made up and biased statistics and biased surveys and anti-gun paid ‘research’ over which they decided which data was used and how, has been debunked many times by independent researchers and was recently debunked again in the last few weeks by the Marquette Law School polling and research. The fact is 69% of Americans do not favor more gun control laws (which would include universal background checks), or in other words, the “vast majority of Americans” DO NOT support “universal background checks”.

    • In their world “including” only requires ONE assenting vote just like bipartisan only needs one member from the opposite party, it’s all semantics, parsing and word games…

  7. I love how these things are framed. It’s always an overwhelming super majority of voters who demand this thing, or that thing. Our party MUST respond to the pressure of voters, after all. Meanwhile, out here in actual voter land, it’s crickets. Almost no one cares about universal background checks. In fact, few people understand the issue. What real people are grumbling about, are criminals being checked into the local police hostel, then turned loose again before the sun goes down. As a result, more and more people, no matter their political affiliation, line up to buy their own guns. That doesn’t change the party line though: “99.99% of voters DEMAND we take action!”

  8. I dont know of one American that approves of the Democrat’s “universal background checks”, red flag laws, nor anything else the Democrats (communists) advocate for “gun control”.

  9. I think in addition to paying attention to all the election issues everyone should be thinking about what is probably going to happen regardless of who wins and be prepared for it. If Trump wins, we know the left will go crazy and violence will abound in this Country particularly in blue states/cities. If the other side wins it will only embolden the radical left to move forward with their leftist agenda and that in itself is going to cause violent confrontations. I would encourage all people concerned about their safety and security of the things they own to make the necessary preparations to defend yourself and your property not only in the sense of being armed but having enough food, water, and determining rally points for friends and relatives so you have enough people to defend yourself when the SHTF.
