As the media onslaught pushing ever more severe restrictions on gun ownership and sales continues, the gun culture is fighting back. When Dick’s Sporting Goods stopped the sale of modern sport and utility rifles, especially AR-15s, a Houston area gun store and range took the opportunity to proclaim its independence and support for Second Amendment rights.

From chron.com:

Boyert Shooting Center, a combination gun range and store with two locations in the Houston area, is having a little fun with Dick’s Sporting Goods’ new AR-15 policy.

In the wake of the deadly school shooting in Florida, Dick’s Sporting Goods announced it would no longer sell assault-style rifles or high-capacity magazines in its stores and will require that any gun buyer be at least 21.

At the Boyert website, Boyert posted a notice of a gun sale.

In honor of Springfield Armory cutting off DICK’S from selling their products due to DICK’S hiring of anti-2nd Amendment Lobbyists, we will be featuring a Springfield Armory “DONE WITH DICK’S” Blowout Sale this weekend at both of our locations.

In North Carolina, a pawn shop that sells guns, does silk printing, and sells and installs audio equipment for cars, expressed took a jab at Dick’s.

According to a local news outlet, the banner got people talking.

From wmbrnews.com:

“It wasn’t nothing negative or trying to promote violence or anything,” Stamper said of the decision to put up the banner, which came just days before the tragic shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas that left 10 dead.

According to Stamper, a majority of people support the sign and don’t view it as offensive. He said supporters are calling from states like Texas, Missouri, Florida and Colorado.

“It’s about 99 percent support,” Stamper said. “Our phone’s ringing off the hook.”

Crossroads Pawn & Audio took the time to thank customers and the public for their support on the issue.

From facebook:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for their support. But with the tremendous outpouring of positive reinforcement comes those who dont have the same views. We respect everyone’s personal opinion.

We would also like to clear up any confusion. An AR15 is NOT a combat weapon or a tactical assault rifle. And in no way are the horrific massacres happening to our children and in our schools acceptable. This violence must stop. But it’s not the guns killing innocent Americans.

We will continue to take strides to reinforce and advocate for responsible gun ownership. We will also continue to be proud supporters and members of the NRA – National Rifle Association of America.

Once again, from our Family; we thank you all.

It is hard to demonize a significant portion of the public when it refuses to be demonized.

The old media no longer have total control of the information the public receives. People increasingly make their own news and refuse to be put in a box controlled by a few old ideologues. Ideologues who cling to their fading power to decide what people read, hear, see, and what they should think about it. Ideologues who increasingly don’t want citizens to own guns.

  1. Boyert’s is a great indoor range- well lit and well ventilated, a nice meetup area outside of the shooting areas, friendly and professional staff who ensure the safety of everyone at the range. They also have simulator rooms available, for a change of pace, if that’s something in which you’re interested, and a good selection of firearms available for rent, up to and including high-end 1911s from Nighthawk and RDS-equipped pistols if you would like to give one a try.

They also offer the ability to shoot from a holstered position in your lane if you pass their brief, but thorough, training course on the matter.

Prices are a bit higher on rangetime (I have a membership which allows me to use the facilities for no additional cost) and ammo (membership gives you a small discount on ammo prices, which is helpful since, like every range, they require that you buy their ammo for use in their rental weapons) than nearby ranges, but I am more than willing to pay the difference, if only for the better ventilation.

  2. The only stores I avoid is Gander, don’t have much,Dicks because well they are Dick Heads and of course Cheaper Than Dirt Bags.

    • Not sure why you’d avoid the new Gander’s is: Both Gander Outdoors (no longer Gander Mountian) stores I’ve stopped in (Lakeville and Bemidji, MN) have a slew of black rifles and carry handguns, prices aren’t all that bad considering their obvious overhead, and ammo seemed well-stocked and reasonable. The Gander Mtn line of gear is gone but that’s NBD.

      • The main reason is the only location is in neighboring New Yorkastan and that location doesn’t carry much in the way of anything, not even a decent selection of fishing lures not to mention firearms.

      • I buy shotgun shells at Gander and have bought a shotgun there, but that’s all. Prices on everything else are too high.

  3. Geez – there’s no apostrophe in “ARs”.

And there is one in “Dick’s”.

    • “Geez – there’s no apostrophe in “ARs”.”

      That depends.

      The AR’s… what? 😉

  4. What gets my goat, CNN posts a huge non-news story about big, bad guns.

I think whatever legitimate strategy gun ranges, gun stores, pawn shops can employ is awesome. I still hope Dick’s, Cheaper Than Dirt and their ilk all go belly up.

  5. Could Dicks please stop selling shotguns and .38 revolvers? They hurt my feelings because of the Santa Fe shooting. Because my feelings matter.
Banning century old guns will save lifes, mkay?

    • Hey, let’s all write Emails to the CEO, demanding he remove those ‘weapons of school shootings’ from his shelves.

See if he falls for it. Knowing what I do about the douche, I’m guessing he’d really like the idea.

  6. Wish my old Gunshop owner wouldn’t have committed suicide. He’d get yah anything you could buy, and for a little more money, off the records….. BTW, he didn’t use a gun to off himself. I admire him for that much of it anyway.

    • Sounds just like the type of criminal that we DON’T need in our ranks. He was a criminal!

      • When the politician’s get around to you be prepared to be a criminal with their new laws take our rights away

    • It’s heartbreaking and sad indeed when anyone willfully chooses to end their life. Whether a gun
is utilized to commit suicide is irrelevant. Unfortunately the anti-gunners will politically exploit
such to push their socialist anti-gun agenda.

  7. Bought more stuff at cabelas last week. 30 minutes away versus 5 minutes for dicks and cost more but I don’t care.
My money isn’t any good there any longer.

  8. I popped in to my local Dick’s yesterday (the main reason was to cancel my rewards membership), the guy at the gun counter said that firearm sales had dropped a lot but (in that store at least), they had never sold AR’s (or similar). He wanted the message sent that they still sold other firearms, I said good luck with that!!

Anyway, he seemed like a decent guy and I did sympathize with him in that the misguided actions by their virtue signalling CEO puts the jobs of their employees at risk.

The store in general was like a ghost town, but it was 2pm on a Tuesday………

  9. Boyert Shooting Center is to be commended here. I support them in solidarity. Unfortunately I reside several thousand miles away outside the State of Texas
so can’t really partake of what they offer. Nonetheless they remain worthy of
    our support.
