According to the wikipedia hive mind, the word “mincing” has two meanings: to “cut up or grind (food, esp. meat) into very small pieces, typically in a machine with revolving blades” and to “walk with an affected fastidiousness, typically with short quick steps.” Members of the gay community are known for “mincing.” UK TV presenter Julian Clary celebrated the prediliction in his song “Mincing Machine.” See what I did there? Although my headline accuses The Brady Campaign for the Prevention of Gun Violence of grinding something-or-other to bits, it also kinda sorta implies that the Brady Campaign is gay. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Or that it’s true. Which is precisely my my point . . .

You can mis-characterize an entire group of people with a single adjective. To wit, the Brady Campaign’s recent Tweet “California: Stop unlicensed gun carriers from prancing around town. Ask @JerryBrownGov to sign the AB144 bill into law!”

Yup. There it is: “prancing.” As in “walk or move around with ostentatious, exaggerated movements.” Not that there’s anything wrong with that, as Ferrari fans (prancing horse) and Braniff’s old ad reps (“If you’ve got it, flaunt it”) will tell you. But in this case, clearly, the Brady Campaign’s attempting to smear open carry advocates.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Wait. There is.

While I respect the Brady’s position—well, their right to hold their position—the Campaign’s Tweet-shaped derisory snort reveals that they don’t return the favor. They are completely obnoxious to their opponents because they are, in truth, completely anti-gun. To the point where they can’t contain themselves.

To wit: they call open carry’s prancing practitioners “unlicensed”—-implying that they’re breaking the law. The Bradys know that California citizens don’t need a license to openly carry a gun. Scary? The Brady Campaign thinks so. They contend that these open carry prance-titioners are a danger because . . . they scare the public.

Wrong answer. Crime scares the public. Take guns from criminals? Sure. Remove firearms from law-abiding citizens? While the non-gun owning mainstream may feel uncomfortable with openly carried firearms, they know that grabbing legal guns doesn’t do anything to stop crime.

I know I’m being picky. I realize that the Brady Campaign is preaching to its base’s base instincts. But the “prancing” crack is yet another revealing mask slip, wherein gun control advocates reveal their true goal: to remove firearms from all the crazy civilian gun owners.

Note: the Bradys think ALL civilian gun owners are crazy. If they could, they’d ban all personal firearms. But they can’t. And that makes them nasty. And, it must be said, dangerous.

  1. The Brady Campaign Against America is a boil on this nation’s a$$. It doesn’t matter how many times it’s lanced; it’s going to swell up again. The thing is, the Brady tools are not the true enemy. The Brady campaign is just a front for the Joyce Foundation.

  2. I’m not aware of any open carry gun owners getting into shootings in California and neither am I aware of any Star Bucks closing down due to consumers keeping away because they are scarred of the OC crowd being allowed into SB.

  3. If enough people open carry, maybe the heads of the Brady Campaign will be too scared to leave the house–and everyone will be better off without their moralizing.
