Check this out if you’re looking for still more inconsistency (and who isn’t?) within the Gun Control Industrial Complex. Earlier this year, Dianne Feinstein introduced the mother of all firearms bans in her updated-for-2013 “assault weapons” ban bill. She went after every single scary-looking rifle that she could think of, attempting to rush through major restrictions on firearms ownership while public opinion was still strong following the Newtown tragedy. Within that bill, in an attempt to appease hunters and get them to sign on (or at least shut up), she specifically exempted (by name and by model) hundreds of firearms that she either didn’t believe were dangerous enough to be called “assault weapons” or, in her considered opinion, believed served a legitimate sporting purpose. Right there on the list of approved rifles were these two . . .

  • M-1 Carbines with standard fixed stock
  • M-1 Garand with fixed 8 round capacity and standard stock

Hmm, where have we seen those before? Wait, these are the very firearms that President Obama has now blocked from being imported into the United States in an attempt to “keep military-grade firearms off our streets.”

Senator Feinstein herself — the doyenne of disarmament — didn’t see these very firearms as threats to the general safety and security of the United States. She obviously understood that they didn’t contribute to “gun violence” on our streets. And yet the disarmer-in-chief has seen fit to keep them out for those exact reasons. Cognitive dissonance, anyone?

  1. Isn’t there a law on the books specifically authorizing these to be imported? I remember something about it.

  2. But they’re actual weapons of war and must be banned! What was she thinking!? Good thing Obama jumped in and saved the day.

  3. The big O doesn’t care what this E.O. actually accomplishes as far as gun violence goes, he only cares that appears to accomplish something.

  4. All those Garands and M1 Carbines in Korea were already blocked from import by executive order. I didn’t see that changing as long as Obama is in office and I don’t see what this latest EO changes in that regard.

What I’d like to know is what other guns or ammo that are currently being imported will now become unavailable.

  5. Anyone who expects consistency from policy makers, much less in the laws we end up with, is in for a very long wait indeed.

    • They have a high level of consistency, every political move is aimed at destroying America as a nation

      • They mean to increase the size, scope, and control of the government whilst reducing the freedom and safety of the American taxpayer. In that regard, they are remarkably consistent. Here’s what I find to be the most upsetting: millions of “American” voters are either too lazy, ignorant, or greedy to remove these tyrants from office.

        • Most people hear “military-grade” and think this is a good idea. You’ve got to hand it to the White House: they’ve mastered deceit through politically-correct terms used to demonize guns and the people who own them.

  6. Please be sure to get this in the forums and other boards. It’s a great counter-point, even if it only shows that gun-control is out-of-control. I’d post this on the MAIG (sounds like mange?) facebook page, but I was banned for simply asking if it was true about some of the (gun) criminal behavior of some of it’s member mayors.

Oh, they screwed up now, if the “pro” folks have the brains to use it. (3 out of 10 chance at best, but…)

So, the spout-y pundit goes off (let’s call him “Pierce Musket”):

PM: “There’s no legitimate sporting use for these weapons of war. They’re killing machines.(!)”

    CR: “What weapons?”

PM: “Assault rifles, weapons of war, for the children!!!”

CR: “I’m confused. Where I grew up, the most common deer rifles were .308s and 30-06’s, both military calibers. Usually the actual guns were surplus military with a smattering of Japanese calibers mixed in.”

PM: “But, not the same at all. Evil, black, has a thing that goes up. These are just to kill people.”

CR: “Feinstein’s bill called out M-1’s – “M” as in a military weapons designation – as permitted spoting guns. This is why the “assault weapon” non-designation is so difficult and blurred. Individual military arms have always tracked personal hunting weapons, and vice-versa.”

“Obama’s executive action banning the import of former “military weapons” like the M-1 looks uninformed. It’s not a machine gun. This ban even looks kind of petty – why shouldn’t veterans who carried this weapon for example in Korea be able to hunt with one here, or even teach their kid what they did and how they did it?”
